Japanese Street Food Tour Top 10 in Kyoto Japan | Nishiki Market Food Guide

Top 10 Japanese Street Food Tour in Kyoto Japan. Food Guide in Nishiki Market and Gion Area, walking street food tour to my top 10 favorite street food spots. Nishiki Market is known as Kyoto’s kitchen and it’s been around for 400 years. And one of the main reasons why Nishiki Market opened up here in Kyoto is because this very spot run clean and cold groundwater which was used a refrigeration system by shop owners back in the day. Now there about 129 stores crammed in this narrow 400 meter market and it’s equally crowded with locals and tourists alike. Many Japan tourists and Japan travelers are looking for the best food market spots at Nishki and I cover some of the best shops We try the famous Tako Tamago which is an Octopus with a quail egg inside. We also try Tamagoyaki at Kai, which is a fluffy and elegant tasting Dashimaki Tamago made only with their High-end Kyoto eggs. Dashimaki Tamago is a type of Tamagoyaki but uses a Dashi soup and is usually not sweet. Also on the menu for this Kyoto Street Food tour are Oysters, Fishcakes, Grilled Fish, Cheese Tart, Fried Chicken Karaage, Black Ramen and Melon Pan Ice Cream.

This is Japan Food Travel Guide for Japan tourists and and Kyoto travelers. So many things to see and eat in Kyoto, but I wanted to give everyone a Kyoto Street food guide on Things to do in Kyoto and where to eat in Kyoto.

Nishiki Market (錦市場 Nishiki Ichiba) (literally brocade market) is a marketplace in downtown Kyoto, located on a road one block north and parallel to Shijō Street (四条通 Shijō-dōri) and west of Teramachi Street (寺町通 Teramachi-dōri). Rich with history and tradition, the market is renowned as the place to obtain many of Kyoto's famous foods and goods.

Gion is Kyoto’s geisha district, with hostesses in colorful kimonos often sighted on the wooden Tatsumi Bridge, or amid upscale Japanese restaurants and boutiques on Hanamikoji Street.

Subscribe for more tasty videos:

If you want to visit Nishiki Ichiba, here's how to get there:
1) Take exit #9 from Hankyu Kawaramachi Station.
2) You will exit out onto a shopping street called Shinkyogoku. This shopping street runs parallel to another shopping street called Teramachi.
3) Walk along the sidewalk path perpendicular past the entrance of Shinkyogoku. You will soon see the entrance to Teramachi shopping street on your right.
4) Enter the shopping street and continue on until you see a Wendy's First Kitchen on your right and a shoe store called ABC Mart on your left.
5) Right behind the ABC Mart is a road that runs from left to right. Take a left onto that road and you will be at Nishiki Ichiba Market. You can tell by seeing the stained glass ceiling above.

Shops at Nishiki Ichiba open from 10 AM to 6 PM. I HIGHLY recommend getting there as early as possible, because the shopping street will soon be crowded all day. At peak traffic, it's very difficult to walk through.

KYOTO JAPAN
Kyoto has tons of street food and we're here to help you find the best! We're trying out some of the newer shops that have opened since we last visited. These are our pick for some of the best!

Tsuruya Chosei Sannenzaka Branch ( has these incredible sweets called Smoothie Ice Monaka. They combined the traditional dango and monaka, then combined them with ice cream.

Kumonocha ( was a really nice place to sit and relax with their signature Cloud Cake and Lychee Drink. I really enjoyed their premium matcha tea.

Itoken Sousou ( offered a unique way to enjoy traditional Wagashi (Japanese confection). You can enjoy four different types of wagashi on a stick.

Kirakuan Sannenzaka Branch ( serves up Karaage Fried Chicken on a long stick. It was gimmicky but we thought the chicken was really good.

Okutan ( is a simple shop serving simple food. In fact they only sold two things. We decided to try their Tofu Balls, which were light, savory and delicious.

One of the best things we ate on this trip was from Kyo Kurara ( in the Gion district of Kyoto. They offer up Namafu on sticks in a variety of flavors and tastes. Namafu is a Kyoto specialty and is something we recommend. These were amazing!

Try these frozen parfaits on sticks from Ito Kyuemon ( They're not only pretty to look at, but they were yummy especially on a hot summer day.

Snoopy Chaya ( is for all you Snooy fans! The Snoopy Yaki was freshly made, warm and hit the spot. Recommended if you like Anko.

Yatai Mura Nishiki ( is a fairly new addition to the famous Nishiki Market. Get the tempura here. They make a great snack with beer!

Kamukura Gion Branch ( is a famous ramen chain, but they also have a takeaway counter, offering up Mitarashi Dango.

One thing to note is that Nishiki Market isn't just a food market; you can also buy high-end cookware and cooking utensils. There are shops that specialize in fancy pots, pans and knives, and this has earned Nishiki Market nicknames like Kyoto's Kitchen and Kyoto's Pantry.

Kyoto Street Food | Tour of Nishiki Market (錦市場), Japan:

Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a vlogging travel couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world. Our most recent trip was to Japan where we spent 2 months traveling around the country and visiting the following destinations: Osaka, Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Nikko, Takayama, Yokohama, Odaiba, Shirakawa-gō and Takao.

During our stay, we visited a mixture of big cities and small rural towns, where we enjoyed eating Japanese street food, trying traditional Japanese cuisine, visiting local attractions and staying in unique accommodations (such as capsule hotels and ryokans) that we are now going to share with you on this channel. The combination and contrast of visiting futuristic cities and traditional countryside areas is what makes travel to Japan so fascinating. Ultra modern versus traditional. This is the essence of Japan.

Our trip to Japan was unforgettable and until now it is one of our favorite countries that we have come to know. However, we only feel as though we just scratched the surface on this trip to Japan. If you want to see more videos from Japan in the future, let us know in the comments that places you'd like us to travel to and food experiences you would like to see on this travel channel.

Have you traveled to Japan before? What was your experience like? Please share your Japan travel tips, advice and experiences in the comments below.

Thanks again for watching our Japan series! Until next time!

Join us on our Japanese Food Guide in Kyoto Japan.
