Street Food Heaven in Amman, Jordan ???????? (so cheap)

YO GUYS, WELCOME TO AMMAN - THE CAPITAL OF JORDAN! On my second day in Amman, I tried some of the best & cheapest street food places in Amman. The first one is Salaheddine Bakery. They are known for their amazing Sesame Bread Sandwich and it is literally mouthwatering. They are open 24/7 and especially for breakfast I can recommend this place. You will not regret it! The second spot is Al Quds Falafel. This institution exists since 1966 and is well known in the city. They basically just serve Falafel & Falafel Sandwiches. Al Quds is located directly on the famous Rainbow Street in Amman. If you love Falafel as much as I do then this is your go-to place! Enjoy my foodies :)

Legendary Jordanian Street Food at Hashem Restaurant - Amman, Jordan!

Hashem Restaurant is probably one of the most famous and one of the oldest restaurants in downtown Amman. And not only are they located in a great location, but they serve very good food. For more information check out my Amman Travel Guide:

On Day 11, Ying and I were on our own. Although I had some video editing and blogging that I needed to do, we did a little bit of exploring, and I really wanted to eat at the legendary Hashem Restaurant. From our hotel, we took a short walk down the hill, enjoying some great views of Amman, until we reached the bottom of the valley where downtown is located. We arrived around 11 am in the morning, and from the steps we took down the hill, we arrived just a turn away from the entrance of Hashem Restaurant - very convenient.

The restaurant was packed and bustling. I would like to quickly mention that meals are eaten pretty late in Jordan, many people don’t eat breakfast until 9, 10, or even 11 am, so I think most of the people eating when we arrived were mostly having breakfast. Lunch is typically eaten more around the 2 pm - 4 pm time range. It took a few minutes, but we found a table that someone left, and after getting it cleared, we sat down and ordered. I don’t think they really have a menu at Hashem Restaurant, but they have all the basic dishes like hummus, ful, moutabel, and falafel - the hummus and falafel, including the stuffed falafel are some of the most famous dishes they serve. Hashem Restaurant has been visited by many famous people from around the world, and it seems that many Royalty, politicians and celebrities, when they visit Amman, make it a point to eat here. So I was pretty excited to eat here too.

I ordered a range of different dishes to try, including hummus, moutabel, ful medames, and finally both normal falafel and stuffed falafel. The stuffed falafel were about twice the size, and stuffed with onions and sumac, they were delicious. The hummus, topped with a generous amount of olive oil, was also extremely good, with a very refreshing lemon taste, and I really liked how they added on some green chili sauce to the top. With a little red chili sauce and using bread to dip it up, the hummus was excellent. The ful was also wonderful, with lots of olive oil and green chili sauce on top to make it even better. And finally the moutabel, one of my personal favorites, didn’t let me down either. It was smoky and creamy, with nearly the consistency of whipped cream.

After a delicious meal at one of the most famous restaurant in Amman, we headed back up the hill and started walking back to our hotel. We stopped at a fruit store and bought a bag of different fruit to eat through the afternoon, including some more wonderful green almonds.

Hashem Restaurant (مطعم هاشم)
Address: Complex No 4, Prince Mohammad St 4, Amman 11151, Jordan
Prices: I paid 7 JD for our entire meal, and I also had an extra bowl of moutabel not shown in the video.

AMMAN JORDAN - CHEAP EATS FOOD guide - July 2022

This is a Food guide to great food, low price and local joints in Amman Jordan during my visit in July 2022. Food is somewhat reasonable but when you go out to real trendier restaurants of lounges, the prices are like western countries and there is service charge and tax added to bill. If you go to local places or fast food, you can eat fairly cheaply.

We ate so much here and OD'd on food esp street food. It's a fun place to travel.

Mansaf (منسف‎) - The Ultimate Jordanian Food

Mansaf is the ultimate Jordanian food you should try:

Considered the national dish of Jordan, and a dish that nearly every Jordanian loves, you are bound to taste Jordan with every bite of mansaf you taste. This was my first time to ever try mansaf, and I was so happy and excited, it was incredible.

What is mansaf (منسف‎)?

Mansaf (منسف‎) is a Jordanian food that consists of three main things: rice, lamb, and jameed. The rice is often cooked with turmeric to give it a yellow color, and the lamb is cooked in jameed, and then more jameed is served on the side as a sauce for the rice and lamb. Finally, the lamb and rice is topped with a handful of fried nuts, either pine nuts or sliced almonds, and the full meal is then served with a variety of fresh vegetables like onions and arugula.

What is jameed (جميد)?

Jameed is a type of goat yoghurt that is dried and fermented and made into a hard ball shape. It’s traditionally prepared by Bedouins in the desert who preserve the goat milk by making it into jameed so that it lasts for a long time and can be used slowly. If you visit a Bedouin tent or village, you’ll often see balls of jameed resting on the roof of the tent, drying in the hot sun. For mansaf, the jameed is re-hydrated and made into a sauce, and it gives the unique signature taste and richness of the dish. I had my first taste of jameed, and it was amazing. You can really taste the goat and taste the pastures and grass and shrubs that the goats have eaten in every bite. It definitely has a bit of a meaty taste to eat.

Along with mansaf being an incredibly delicious food, one of the great things about it are all the traditions and customs that come along with eating it. It’s a typical food to eat at Jordanian festivals and celebrations. The mansaf is served on a big tray, and everyone stands around the tray, taking bites with their right hand. You pick up some rice with lamb, and douse it in jameed, then roll it into a ball shape in your palm, making sure there’s some lamb in the middle of the rice and that the entire mansaf ball is held together with jameed. One you have a ball ready, you drop it into your mouth, making sure you don’t touch your lips so that you don’t contaminate your fingers - then you repeat again. Once you are finished eating, you can then lick your fingers clean, and it’s acceptable, that’s pretty cool!

Tawaheen Al Tawa Restaurant - To eat mansaf in Amman, Jordan, we went to one of the most famous restaurants in the city, Tawaheen Al Tawa, a huge restaurant institution in Jordan. The restaurant serves all sorts of delicious Jordanian and Arabic foods, and they especially specialize in mansaf and bbq meats - we had the mansaf. Our tray came out, a pile of rice topped with a heap of lamb, and side bowls of jameed. The combination of the dish, and the method of eating it, made it one of the most memorable meals I ate when I was in Jordan. Price - About 10 - 15 JD ($14.06 - $21.09) per person

Jordanian Food and the Best Falafel I've Had!

Check out my Jordanian food guide here:

On Day 2 (which was actually the same morning we arrived, so it was really our first day in Amman), we didn’t do much other than eat some incredibly delicious Jordanian food. After having a quick breakfast at the hotel, which I showed in the first video, we then took a nap. In the early afternoon, we got started for the day, by having some of the most incredible falafel I’ve ever had in my life, and proceeding to have a few snacks, followed by an amazing Jordanian meal for dinner. Here’s a more details looks at what we did on Day 2 of our Jordan trip.

1:02 Falafel Al-Quds - For our first food stop in Amman we went to a famous place called Falafel Al-Quds, known for serving falafel sandwiches on sesame seed buns. I haven’t had all that much falafel in my life, but these were definitely some of the best falafel I’ve ever had in my life. I had the sesame seed falafel sandwich which came filled with falafel, tomatoes, tahini, chili, and some small spices and seasoning. It was simple but incredibly delicious. Sesame seed bun - 0.75 JD ($1.05)

4:56 Gerard Ice Cream - Next we walked down Rainbow street in Amman, which by the way has some fantastic little Jordanian restaurants and cafe, and stopped off at Gerard ice cream where I tried ar Arabic ice cream which is flavored by Arabic gum. It tastes sort of like a combination of vanilla and caramel. 1.70 JD ($2.39)

6:00 Wild Jordan Cafe - After walking around Amman for a bit and getting some good exercise walking around the hills, we then stopped off at Wild Jordan Cafe to hang out for a bit, drink some coffee and tea, and enjoy the great atmosphere for the cafe and of the Amman Citadel over on the next hill. It’s a really nice cafe in Amman if you’re looking to hang out.

7:26 The Delights Shop - We headed to a certain area of Amman to go to a place called The Delights Shop, known throughout Amman for having incredible dates. While they did have a selection of plain dates, they mostly had a variety of different chocolate covered dates. I had a mint chocolate covered date, which was very sweet and rich and very good. The Delights Shop in Amman is a little high end, but is a good place if you’re looking for chocolate covered dates.

8:30 Al Osrah Restaurant - Along with eating falafel, our Jordanian food local style dinner at Al Osrah restaurant was definitely the highlight of our first full day of exploring and eating in Amman. This local restaurant served all the typical dishes including hummus, moutabel, falafel again, and a dish that I particularly enjoyed - fattet hummus - which is bread that’s soaked until is basically dissolves, and mixed with hummus. While hummus is dense and creamy, the fattet hummus was much lighter and almost had the fluffy consistency of whipped cream. Our meal at Al Osrah was excellent, if you have a chance to eat there when you’re in Amman, the food they serve is wonderful.

13:01 Temriyeh Omar - For our final food stop in Amman, we went to a local spot known as Temriyeh Omar to have a Jordanian dessert called temriyeh, which is a then layer of dough, like a roti, filled with a slice of semolina cake, wrapped up into a little packet, and deep fried to a crisp. Once it’s taken out of the hot oil, it’s then dusted in powdered sugar. It was sweet, but very good.

Jordanian guys take me for lunch in Amman ???????? عَمَّان‎ الأردن سوق الجمعة‎

I was walking through Friday Market in Amman on my own looking for some sunglasses and a pair of tracksuit bottoms and I came across this group of young lads who offered to take me for lunch, so I said yes.

We had a great time, they showed me some local Jordanian food and showed me how to eat it like they do.

These guys once again proving that Jordanians are super friendly, cool people who like to make sure tourists are having a good time in their country.

In my earlier Jordan videos, I had some comments stating that some of the people weren't genuine and were either talking in Arabic about me negatively, or they were just trying to get money out of me. These two guys were super cool, we're now friends and they paid for the lunch and asked for nothing in return. These two young guys are a fantastic example of friendly young people in Jordan and they'll both go very far in life.

Ahmad is training to become an accountant and Osama is training to become a software developer. I know they'll both do very well in life.

Built into a different downtown hillside, the Roman Theater is a 6,000-capacity, 2nd-century stone amphitheater offering occasional events.
