VIP Tour of KORÇË BREWERY!! Albanian Beer Tasting & Steak Lunch | Korçë, Albania

???? TRAVEL MEDIA EU:
???? KORÇË BREWERY:
???? TAVERNA VASILI:
???????? DAVID’S BEEN HERE ALBANIA SHIRTS:

The amazing ninth day of my epic Albanian adventure continued in the city of Korçë, where I dove into Albania’s food and beer culture! Join me as I go on a VIP tour of Korçë Brewery, have an Albanian beer tasting, and enjoy a mouthwatering steak lunch in Korçë, Albania!

???? BALKAN PEARLS TOUR OPERATOR:
???? RENTAL CAR ALBANIA:

My boy Erjan from Travel Media EU and I began our day at Taverna Vasili. Like nearly every restaurant I had visited in Albania, it seemed like it was an old house that had been converted into a restaurant.

I started with some Korçë beer, which comes in two styles: dark and blonde. The dark was nice and chilled. It was basically their version of craft beer. It was a porter style and had notes of espresso beans in it!

Then, we had a soup with egg yolk, lemon, pepper, butter, and tiny noodles. It was light and tasty! Then, our main course arrived!

The pork ribs were marinated in the Korçë beer and baked in it before it was grilled. The skin was super crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. It’s one of the best ribs I’ve ever eaten!

Our mixed platter also contained grilled pork, marinated veal, fava beans, potatoes, red peppers, grilled cucumbers, and eggplant! The eggplant was phenomenal and super fresh! I also loved the smoky grilled pork. The beans were tasty and oily, and the veal was amazing!

Then, we had a unique type of petula that was very soft, not fried, and covered in nuts! It was like several layers of crepes topped with walnuts. It was bitter and not sweet at all, but tasty! I loved it with the grilled pork! The red peppers were also super tasty and full of moisture.

Inside the restaurant, I saw some aged sirloin steaks, which is aged 300 days. It looked unbelievable!

Now that I was stuffed, we headed to Korçë Brewery, a.k.a. Birra Korçë. It’s the oldest brewery in Albania and opened in 1928. I could see a building with offices, some huge tanks, and a beer garden. It smelled amazing inside the brewery. They several of their beers arranged on a table, including a light, a blonde, and the dark beer I tried earlier.

The stools inside were made from barrels! Then, I saw their 4 massive tanks including a masher and boiler and some of the ingredients they use. It’s a classic large brewery, which is a well-oiled machine. They produce 10 million liters of beer per year!

In the chemical room, they keep a bottle of each beer here and check the quality of the beer constantly. Next, we headed through a dark tunnel to the filtration room, where there is a huge system. We drank two large beers, which were light and refreshing. It was fresh from the tank and was perfect!

Next, we saw where they increase the cells of the yeast. It was freezing there! Under the 58,000-liter fermenting tanks is a type of room I’d never been in! Then, we saw how they check the quality of the water they use and how they can and keg the beers. The cans go down a long assembly line. It was such a unique VIP experience that most people can’t get! I hadn’t been to a brewery this big in a long time!

Then, we headed to the beer garden to try the blond and the dark. The blond is on tap there while the dark is bottled. The garden reminded me of Germany! The blond is not too alcoholic or filling and a nice, summer beer. The dark one was so tasty with the notes of espresso beans! What an awesome afternoon!

Korçë - The Cultural Capital of Albania!

The cultural capital of Albania in the southeast, Korçë is completely off the tourist trail with no hostels available yet for backpackers to stay in.

The European Union has recently declared Korçë as an important future economic center and tourist destination so it will be interesting to see how this authentic Albanian town develops over the next 10 years...

I AIN’T A LADY! || KORÇË / ALBANIA

I ain't a lady is me trying to determine if I'm lady 'enough' to be a lady. When your friends are more lady than you, you start to question if you're in the same category. I was tired, feeling lonely and sad, had skin issues from an allergic reaction, frumpy clothes that we're comfortable and mates around me who knew how to dress that I simply hid in a cave in my mind and played it out as best I could to keep the 'group vibe' pumping.

NEW ADDITION:

NOTE:
07:25 Not EVERY woman goes through this, right? I can't generalise so I'll say 'some' women compare themselves to other women.

MUSIC:
Song: Kiwi
Artist: Jeff Kaale

When I am tired, my emotional state hits a whole new level of unstable. How do I deal with it? Tell myself not to make important decisions when tired but I seem to always become irrational in this 'tired mindset' that I just seem to go with what I shouldn't do. Thankfully even though I was feeling low on one day of our travels, I was grateful that the others didn't really notice and they let me be. Every now and again Erald would ask if I was ok and I'd respond 'po' - yes. Other then that, I was battling some insecurities and didn't want the to impact the others so kept silent most of the time.

After all the drama internally, I tried to pull myself out of it by looking at what I'm grateful for and being amongst generous and kind people was one of them. I build up mirrored walls in my mind that sometimes reflects my worst insecurities and forces me to stare and stare deep til I find it hard to see or believe that it's not true. This time, I had to shake off comparing myself to Sonia and Aleksandra. I had to shake off expecting the lovable friendly family vibe that I'd get from my closest mates from people I had just met and I had to be grateful for where I was and the people I was with at the time.

Mental demons can trap you if you allow them the time of day. I have associated certain emotions with traumas or problems I've had in the past in order to identify in the present if I'm putting myself into a similar situation. I noticed I was craving love from my humans. I noticed I was feeling down about my being 'bigger' in comparison to the other two. Don't get me wrong, I know I'm hot but I just felt 'big'. I noticed I was feeling low about not looking 'pretty enough' and then it hit me -

WTF AM I DOING?!?! Ever climbed out of a particular mindset going 'how did I allow myself to go there in the first place?' Cause I was tired and sad and it all plummeted from there. Thankfully though, we had top moments together and I kept my insecurities to myself to then share with my humans later to come to the decision that I've been away from loved ones too long. Yeah, it led to that conclusion.

I travel thinking I'm all good alone but I crave my Mama's hugs and even the reassuring squeeze of a hand from my close knit friends that I love and adore. It does, it hits me at least once a year to be around people who genuinely care for me. Little did I know, the mates I was with would end up caring for me during my self isolation with covid-19.

Life is not only about getting what you want but also making the best of what you get.

That's me. I'm on the up and mending and of course have missed many weeks of sharing vlogs with you and I am soo sincerely sorry but let's get cracking now that mid-year xmas is over... If you don't know what that means, you haven't watched this vlog. C'mon, I promise what's to come will be light hearted.

Korça o Corizza, i laghi Prespa e Ohrid fino a Pogradec Vacanze in Albania

Visitare Korce (o Corizza in italiano) e dintorni inclusi i laghi Prespa e Ohrid.

This time: Albania!

“Hidden gem” is an overused word, but when talking about Albania both words have their true sense. Being closed off from the world for decades, ruled by despote forces, Albania opened it’s doors only a quarter of a century ago. After the fall of Communism, Albania was at once revealed to the world. Rugged mountain scapes, immensely rich of deep turquoise blue water flowing through it’s rivers, hot springs, a Mediterranean vibe, the friendliest people and last but not least the highly fascinating history and heritage; castles, ruins from the big empires to the bunkers left in the past century.

In this episode the emerald sea, pristine beaches of Albania's south coast, Saranda, Albania's great great food culture, it's communist past, canoeing at Porto Palermo, the ancient city of Butrint and some action.

The most scenic drive in Albania. 〢 Hitchhiking Albania Episode 2 〢

☞ SUBTITLES AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH – ESPANOL

▼▼ Expand the description! ▼▼

Last week we crossed the border between Greece and Albania and started our hitchhiking adventure through the second country of this trip. We had a very warm welcome in Sarandë and visited Syri i Kalter, also called 'The Blue Eye'.
But the time arrived to say goodbye to our new friends and continue our way to Dhermi, one of the most beautiful beaches of the Albanian Riviera. We spent the evening and night next to the beach in a camping and continued the day afterwards to Berat. On our way we were (again) very lucky with our driver, drove through the Llogara National Park and stopped for a traditional Albanian lunch. After three more rides we arrived in Berat were we visited the castle up the hill and the city. And also this, like you can probably already predict, by HITCHHIKING!

AMERICANS Tasting Traditional ALBANIAN Food {Krujë}

The municipality of Kruja organized a food fair in the Kruja Castle so that tourists visiting the city could taste some of the traditional cuisine. Many women in the city shared dishes and recipes that people in Kruja have enjoyed for years. So, naturally, we decided to go try some of this traditional Albanian food.

Some drone footage from Abner Peña.
