After a long 30 days of this Sprinter Van Conversion project we are FINALLY moving on from what we like to call Phase 1 which is all about laying the foundations of the tiny home. So, with electrical wiring, strapping, insulation and sound deadening behind us we are ready to move onto the esthetic stage of the van life build. This week the goal is to get all walls and ceiling panels up AND to lay our floor. Can we do it all in just a few short days?!?

How Did We Get Here?
After an incredible 3 years of living, working, and traveling in our self converted Sprinter Van we made the very tough decision to abandon it in Africa to take a rescue flight back to Canada. As it has for all of us this global pandemic has flipped our world upside down. When our Prime Minister announced that he was sending repatriation flights over to Africa to pick up Canadians who were stuck (due to border closures) we consulted with friends and family closest to us and realized that in this time of crisis we should be back in our home country. Halting our dream of driving around the world was a hard pill to swallow which is why we knew we needed a big project to keep our mind + body busy while social distancing back here in Toronto. Enter building an off-grid tiny house on wheels!! This is going to be our 3rd time converting an empty cargo van into a campervan and we are both excited and nervous to take on this project. We want this build to be the ULTIMATE OFF-GRID VAN ????

After a long 10 weeks of this Sprinter Van Conversion project, we are beginning to tie it all together with some decor and cabinetry! Now that our van is insulated, wired, framed and painted we are moving forward with the challenging task of building out our van life kitchen. We begin the week with receiving our beautiful walnut countertops, install our sink and stove and build a few drawers for under the main counter. We then move on to tiling our van and we have to say that the van's really started to feel like a home!

One year ago, Eamon and I decided to forgo yet another apartment lease to buy a used 2008 Mercedes Sprinter Van that we would convert to our tiny home on wheels. Our DIY project allowed us to customize our build to meet our specific needs and we could not be happier. In today's van life vlog, we get a Van Tour from Bev, a Solo Female Living in a Van Conversion!
It is an amazing tiny house on wheels that cost only $5,500. She added another $1,500 in upgrades - so Bev is full time RV living and enjoying van life in a van that cost $7,000. Wait until you see the inside, it is such a beautiful tiny house on wheels and an amazing van conversion for such an affordable price.

Bev is 57 and proud and was fascinated by solo female RV living and was interested in exploring solo female fan life. She is into minimalism so the storage limitations of a campervan were not in issue for Bev. A friend of hers does van life builds and offered to sell her her latest van conversion. Bev was a little unsure at first about living in a van build. She went camping with her friend and vell in love with this camper van conversion. So she bought the RV camper van for $5,500.

She was really excited about solo female van life and adding more solo female travel to her already extensive list of travel locations but she wanted something that could work at campgrounds but also had some tiny house off grid capability. So she invested another $1,500 in to her RV camper van conversion and made it more suitable for off grid living.
Bev's van life build is truly amazing. It's such a comfortable and amazing tiny house on wheels. It really made me think about how accessible this full time RV life really is. Bev also addresses the apprehension of some to solo female van life, solo female rv lving, and solo female travel in general. She talks about the groups she's a member of that have helped her transition into solo female van life.

The Ultimate Van Build Journey:
In Season 1 of the van build, we stripped off the old DPD stickers, rust-proofed the entire van, painted it our favorite matte grey color, redesigned the cab, planned our van's design / layout, created our epic water tanks, built our custom panorama roof windows, installed new wheels, & installed an insulated floor! PHEW! Building a home is something else!
Then Season 2 of the van build rolled around, and with our workshop's renovation behind us, it got TECHNICAL! We built a 47 degree solar tilt (1kW of solar power!), made custom seat bases & installed our custom seats, we took security to the NEXT level, breaking down our 12 incredible layers of security, wired everything our tech-dependent home will need, created the BEST insulation we've ever seen in a campervan (check out our video on campervan insulation & cold camping insulation), installed our own custom security cameras, framed the ceiling, AND created our peak-a-boo curtains. WOW!! We are beyond ready to be off grid in this Ducato van home! ❤️

We’re Ladi (from Czechia) & Margaret (from USA) and we love eBikes, campervans, & cats. In 2020 our van life lifestyle flipped upside down, & we needed to stop traveling in our camper to lockdown in eastern Czech Republic due to the pandemic. With no travel plans and some new time on our hands, we decided to sell our old van, start an electric bike business, begin a youtube channel, build our ultimate dream campervan, renovate a junkyard into a tiny house homestead, plan a container & upper workshop space… well, some other smaller projects in-between ????.
What we thought would only be 6 months of “stillness” has become 2 years of innovation, progress, and so much fun, and most of that is thanks to YOU. Two years ago, Eamon and I decided to forgo yet another apartment lease to buy a used 2008 Mercedes Sprinter Van that we would convert to our tiny home on wheels. Our DIY project allowed us to customize our build to meet our specific needs and we could not be happier. This is how you live #VanLife in simplified style!
Since then we have driven across most of North America and made this van our full time HOME. As we prepare for Van Life in Europe we want to update our van to include some basic comforts we've been missing out on!
We did our best to create a quick video that includes all pieces of our van conversion to a camper. It is a video we wish we could've watched before jumping into building our home on wheels.

After an incredible 3 years of living, working and traveling in our self converted Sprinter Van we’ve had to make the very tough decision to abandon our tiny home in Africa to take a rescue flight back to Canada. As it has for all of us this global pandemic has flipped our world upside down. What went from a virus that seemed far away in China, quickly made it’s way across the globe forcing us to quarantine in our 60 sq-ft in Morocco. And while quarantining was going well for us it became apparent that things would be different for a long while. When our Prime Minister announced that he was sending repatriation flights over to Africa to pick up Canadians who were stuck (due to border closures) we consulted with friends and family closest to us and realized that in this time of crisis we should be back in our home country. The gravity of what we’ve done is sinking in and we ((especially me (Bec)) are having a really hard time adjusting to our new reality. This is why we knew we needed a big project to keep our mind + body busy while social distancing back here in Toronto so we called up our buddy Russel who sells used Sprinter Vans and asked if had anything for sale that would work for a new Sprinter Van Conversion.
This is going to be our 3rd time converting an empty cargo van into a tiny home on wheels and we are both excited and nervous to take on this project. We want this build to be the ULTIMATE OFF-GRID CAMPERVAN ????

How to Convert a Van into an Off-Grid Camper with NO EXPERIENCE
Before we got started with van life, Lou and I loved to watch van conversion videos that chronicled the entire van build in one video. And ever since we finished our van Ody last year, we've been wanting to make a video that shows the entire 6-month process of turning our 38-year-old Mercedes 307d (the old-school sprinter) into our dream tiny home on wheels. We've been living in the van for over a year now and feel so proud of all the hard work that got us here and are definitely reaping the van life rewards of those hundreds of hours of labor. Doing a van conversion with no experience is definitely a huge undertaking, but if you can keep a positive mindset it can be an incredibly transformative experience. We learned so much about construction, plumbing, and electrical and honestly a lot of that knowledge came from watching Youtube videos, so we hope that this video can give back to the ecosystem that served us so well.
Lou and I always knew that we wanted to do a fully off-grid conversion, so we opted for a huge 110-liter water tank, three solar panels, and a large battery. I know the specifics are very important for anyone hoping to build their own van, so I made a blog post that goes into more detail about our build -
We hope that this video inspires you whether you want to do your own van conversion, jump right into van life with a ready-made van, or are eager to start a totally different kind of project. I'm so grateful we got to build Ody in such a unique environment. Introducing our new tiny home project - a Ford Transit cargo van that we are going to be converting into a tiny home on wheels for some incredible adventures into the backcountry. This marks the beginning of our van conversion series - and not just a no-build minivan buildout this time. We are deep in the stages of planning our full cargo van conversion, complete with all of the creature comforts that many van builds have. We also have a couple of unique ideas that will make our build stand out, which we will be sharing in the coming weeks.

We are a couple of full-time travel dreamers who decided to pack up our lives to explore the world - and then 2020 happened. After flying back home, we were not ready to give up our new lifestyle yet, so we bought a minivan, converted it into a DIY minivan camper, and drove across Canada in search of beautiful campsites and stunning mountains to climb.
