We're sharing with you how to make the most out of a day trip to the island, including where we hiked for the amazing views, why Trunk Bay and Maho Bay are absolute must-stops, and where to eat in Cruz Bay and Coral Bay.
The only way to St John is by boat, but you can hop on a ferry from St Thomas to get there with ease.

St John in the Virgin Islands has so much to offer for a peaceful beach getaway. If you want to experience some of the best beaches in the Caribbean, with half the crowd, then don't miss Trunk Bay. If you want to swim with the most sea turtles you've ever seen in your life, then head down to Maho Bay.

ONE Day in St. John, US Virgin Islands Travel Vlog | where to hike, snorkel, and eat (with NO car)
During our 5-day getaway in the USVI, we took a day trip to the lovely island of St. John. This island is only a 20-min ferry ride away from Red Hook in St. Thomas and was super easy to get to! We started out the day with an easy hike at Lind Point Trail, which rewarded us with an amazing view of the harbor and ocean. Then, we had lunch at a local BBQ chicken joint that seriously hit the spot. We spent the rest of the day snorkeling at pristine beaches and seeing so much wildlife beneath the water.

☀️ Weather: Very warm. Be prepared for the occasional light rain throughout the day.

????Transportation: We did NOT rent a car and it was the best decision ever. It wasn't cheap to rent a car and the roads are not the easiest to drive through. It is an island after all! You have to drive on the left side and through narrow, winding roads. We took taxis around the island which cost around $6-10 per person ($10 was the max for around a 20-min ride). You can find them at most popular spots like major beaches or downtown. We never had a hard time.

Exploring the U.S. Virgin Islands with Bill Panoff | St. Thomas & St John | USVI | Travel Show
In this latest episode Bill Panoff takes travelers on an adventure through the US Virgin Islands. We'll try local foods, explore 16th ruins, swim with dolphins, meet local artists and embark on a treasure hunt through St Thomas.
Our adventure kicks off in St Thomas as we walk the famous 99 steps and find ourselves pulled in to a tropical treasure hunt. From there, we cool off with a dolphin swim at one of the largest attractions in St. Thomas and then jump on a quick ferry ride to St. John.
At St. John we soak in the history at Catherineberg ruins. We head over to Wharfside village and meet one of the local jewelry artists living on the island. After a quick stop at one of the most famous beaches in St. John we grab a drink at the BEST bar in town and call it a night.

American Virgin Islands Drone Flight: The U.S. Virgin Islands are a group of Caribbean islands and islets. A U.S. territory, its known for white-sand beaches, reefs and verdant hills. St. Thomas island is home to the capital, Charlotte Amalie. To the east is the island of St. John, most of which comprises Virgin Islands National Park. St. Croix island and its historic towns, Christiansted and Frederiksted, are to the south. In St. Thomas, Charlotte Amalie features a cruise-ship harbor, the Skyride aerial tram and a 17th-century watchtower known as Blackbeards Castle. On the northern coast is Magens Bay, a popular beach with calm waters, and Mahogany Run, a seaside golf course. Regular ferries head to St. John, which has forests and petroglyphs along Reef Bay Trail, plus an underwater nature trail at Trunk Bay. St. Croix encompasses 18th-century Danish buildings, former sugar plantations and Salt Rivers bioluminescent bay.
