The City of Jamestown St Helena - to Live, Work & Explore
Jamestown is the capital of St Helena Island, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean.
The island is tiny and very remote, it’s most notable claim to fame is that French Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled here in 1815, where he died 6 years later.
Until recently St Helena was only accessible by ship, however, St Helena Airport began scheduled flights in 2017 and now weekly flights to Johannesburg, South Africa, keep the island connected with the outside world.
For anyone considering living or taking up a job opportunity on St Helena, this short film gives some insight to what you can expect to find in the island's capital, Jamestown.
Sampling the prestigious St Helena coffee, night swimming at the Jamestown pool, noisy street parades to celebrate the national day and spotting the colourful fish in the Castle Gardens fountain, are some of the activities to experience.

St. Helena island, part of the British Overseas Territory also encompassing Ascension and Tristan da Cunha islands, is a remote volcanic outpost in the South Atlantic Ocean. It's famous as the place of Napoleon Bonaparte's exile and death, as commemorated by a nowempty tomb. Climbing destinations include the 699 steps of Jacob's Ladder and Diana's Peak, sheltering endemic plant and animal life.
St Helena is the United Kingdom's second-oldest overseas territory after Bermuda. Saint Helena is known for being the site of Napoleon's second exile, following his final defeat in 1815.

St. Helena is part of the British overseas territory of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha; Ascension Island is approximately 700 miles (1,100 km) to the northwest, and the island group of Tristan da Cunha is some 1,300 miles (2,100 km) to the south.
The average price of a 7-day trip to St Helena is $2,597 for a solo traveler, $4,664 for a couple, and $8,744 for a family of 4. St Helena hotels range from $139 to $600 per night with an average of $284, while most vacation rentals will cost $200 to $1000 per night for the entire home.
Beaches are in short supply on St Helena; mostly the land meets the sea in a vertical cliff. Jamestown has an area known as The Seaside, but there is no sand, only rocks, and most of the area is taken up by The Wharf.
It is a subtropical paradise where the mountainous terrain and micro-climates create an astounding diversity of landscapes all within a few minutes drive. It is an off-the-beaten-track, bucket-list destination that your friends will envy. On St Helena, there is so much to explore.

Saint Helena named after St Helena of Constantinople, is an island of volcanic origin and a British overseas territory in the South Atlantic Ocean. The territory of St. Helena consists of both the island of Saint Helena, and also the dependencies of Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha. The island, one of the most remote islands in the world, was uninhabited when discovered by the Portuguese in 1502. It was an important stopover for ships sailing to Europe from Asia and South Africa for centuries. Napoleon was imprisoned there in exile by the British, as were Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo (for leading a Zulu army against British rule) and more than 5,000 Boers taken prisoner during the Second Boer War.

From the west, we drive our small jeep through the rainforest to the south and east, before relaxing at an all-inclusive resort in the north.
This year we travel all over the world and after the Canary Islands, Oman, Cape Verde and Martinique, Saint Lucia is our fifth destination. The 'most useless airport in the world' has finally received its first plane. Months after the planned opening, a flight from Johannesburg on the island of Saint Helena in the Atlantic Ocean landed yesterday.g of the first line flight AFP
Today's flight took six hours to arrive at Saint Helena. On board were mainly residents of the island and journalists from British and international media. After the landing they were personally welcomed by the governor of the island.
During the flight, the 68 passengers were already trained by the crew for champagne and chocolate. Thank you for being part of this historic flight, said the pilot before leaving South Africa. On Saint Helena, which has been British since 1658, about 4500 people live. The main tourist attractions are Napoleon's house, its empty grave and a cemetery of prisoners of war from the Boer War. In addition, visitors can dive and walk in unspoilt nature.
In order to accommodate the expected admission of additional tourists, the Saints, like residents of the island, had appointed additional hotel rooms: the capacity grew from a few tens to more than a hundred.
