COMPLETE Walking Tour: Ellen G White House Tour in St Helena Napa Valley County California.

OPEN ME: We had an amazing first hand tour of Ellen G White Home with Elmshaven Manager, Pastor Abner Castañón.

Located at 125 Glass Mountain Lane, Elmshaven is a museum dedicated to preserving the history of the St. Helena community. From 1900 until her death in 1915, Ellen G. White lived at what is now known as the Ellen White House or Robert Pratt Place. She gained notoriety for her prophetic ministry, which played a key role in the beginning of the Sabbatarian Adventist movement that eventually gave rise to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and for her advocacy in support of the development of medical clinics. Currently in the care of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, this property has been recognized as a National Historic Landmark since 1993 and serves as an important part of the religion's history.

North of downtown St. Helena, on the east side of Glass Mountain Lane, is where you'll find Elmshaven. The main house is a redwood-framed two-story construction with shiplap siding. With a square tower protruding from the rightmost front corner and a pyramidal roof, this building is a vernacular interpretation of Victorian design. The main entry is to the left of the projecting gable section of the main facade, under the protection of a porch with two-tiered ornate railings. Many of the interior fixtures and fittings date back to the building's inception or to Ellen White's tenure as owner. Besides the office, library, and storage vault, the property features a tank house housing the property's big water tank.

Once known as the Robert Pratt Place, Robert H. Pratt constructed this home in 1885. In 1900, Ellen White bought the house and gave it the name Elmshaven in honor of the grove of elm trees in the front yard. She passed away at that address in 1915. It is the longest-lasting and best-preserved of White's residences. In 1993, it was officially recognized as a National Historic Landmark.

Elmshaven was almost destroyed by fires in the year 2020.

The City of Jamestown St Helena - to Live, Work & Explore

Jamestown is the capital of St Helena Island, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean.

The island is tiny and very remote, it’s most notable claim to fame is that French Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled here in 1815, where he died 6 years later.
Until recently St Helena was only accessible by ship, however, St Helena Airport began scheduled flights in 2017 and now weekly flights to Johannesburg, South Africa, keep the island connected with the outside world.

For anyone considering living or taking up a job opportunity on St Helena, this short film gives some insight to what you can expect to find in the island's capital, Jamestown.
Sampling the prestigious St Helena coffee, night swimming at the Jamestown pool, noisy street parades to celebrate the national day and spotting the colourful fish in the Castle Gardens fountain, are some of the activities to experience.
This video about Jamestown also includes shopping for groceries along Main Street, catching a taxi, climbing Jacob's Ladder and target shooting at the Jamestown Rifle Club, plus lots more!
We also include an overview of Jamestown’s history and how it came to be a city.

What To Do in St Helena

This trip to the St. Helena took place from 15 - 18 February 2020, before the major current travel restrictions. I do not encourage anyone to travel now. #StayHome. Here's a video with my thoughts on the current situation:

St. Helena may just be one of my favorite places I’ve ever visited. The Saints are some of the kindest people I’ve ever come across in my travels. Because I had such a great time, I thought I’d try something different for this video about St. Helena.

I normally make videos here on YouTube about airlines, but perhaps the most amazing part of aviation are the places it can take. Places like St Helena. So, in this video about St Helena, I’m trying a little experiment: Let’s check out some things on the ground in St Helena! We’ll explore some of the highlights of St. Helena and some of what I enjoyed while I was here. Let me know what you think about this experiment by leaving comments. I always appreciate feedback! And next week, I’ll post a more typical video about my return to the mainland.

St. Helena is home to epic history, out-of-this-world scenery, and incredible opportunities for intreprid travelers.

We’ll explore the infamous Jacobs Ladder, Napoleon’s two residences on St. Helena, some of the hiking available on the island, as well as some of the most amazing vistas.

This is my first attempt at a video about something unrelated to aviation, so I’d appreciate your feedback. I think it’s probably fair to say I need to expand my coverage of things like accomodations and food if I continue with this. Also, maybe I’ll do this on a separate channel. Anyway, let me know what you think of this first attempt. And, also, let me know if you’re heading to St. Helena once we can all travel again!

Napa Valley 4K walking tour: Old Faithful, Calistoga, and St. Helena

A 4k walking tour of the Old Faithful Geyser and the picturesque towns of Calistoga and St. Helena. Calistoga is at the far north end of Napa Valley so we haven't been there as often as the towns closer to us in the south. But it's well worth the trip and we enjoyed visiting the Old Faithful Geyser as well. St Helena is also a good town to visit--Gott's used to be a regular burger stop for us for the kids and, at the other end of town, we have always liked visiting Beringer. It's one of the bigger wineries but good wine and a great location.
