Saint Barthélemy, a volcanic island fully encircled by shallow reefs, has an area of 25 square kilometres (9.7 sq mi) and a population of 9,035 (Jan. 2011 estimate). Its capital is Gustavia, which also contains the main harbor to the island. It is the only Caribbean island which was a Swedish colony for any significant length of time; Guadeloupe was under Swedish rule only briefly at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Symbolism from the Swedish national arms, the Three Crowns, still appears in the island's coat of arms. The language, cuisine, and culture, however, are distinctly French. The island is a popular tourist destination during the winter holiday season, especially for the rich and famous during the Christmas and new year period.
The landing runway is 2170 feet long, and the approach, from either direction, is often plagued by varying degrees of turbulence. As a result, the French aviation authorities require that a special permit be issued to any pilot who intends to land in St. Barts.
Those planning to land in St Barts will have to land in Grand Case, French St Martin, first, in order to get their qualification. St Barts Control tower (Telephone: 590 590 27 65 33 - Fax: 590 590 27 98 96 ) will tell you how to contact a French instructor for certification. It takes a couple of hours, and includes touch-and-go in both directions. Don't do it on a windy day with a hangover.
The landing fee varies from 8.5 Euros to 12.5 Euros, and parking fee is 5.5 Euros/ night.
There are no mechanic nor fuel on the field. Best nearby place for that is at Grand Case Airport in St. Martin. No fuel is available during their long lunch hour.
When you arrive or depart, you are required to deposit a General Declaration form with the immigration officer at the door and file a flight plan : call (+590) 590 27 65 33 or fax (+590) 590 27 98 96.

St Barth's - How to Get There & What to Do
This is how to get to St. Barth's and what to do on St. Barth's. St. Barth's is a tiny island that is a few nautical miles from St. Martin. St. Barth's has an airport but it's too small for jets. The only way to fly to St. Barth's is to fly a private propeller plane or St. Barth's Commuter. A highly-experienced pilot is required to land on St. Barth's. The Voyager ferry runs between Oyster Pond, St. Martin and Gustavia, St. Barth's. The ferry is the easiest way to travel to St. Barth's. I recommend staying at Le Village on St. Barth's and definitely experience dinner at Sandbar or On the Rocks at Eden Rock! #StBarths

St. Barts & St. Martin : French West Indies | 4K Travel Video
For this trip we spent 6 days on the beautiful island of St. Barthélemy then 3 more on St. Martin. While on St. Barthélemy we had the pleasure of staying at @lebarthelemyhotelspa5889 for a true mix of luxury and relaxation. We enjoyed visiting downtown Gustavia, sailing to Colombier beach, watching planes land at Gustaf III Airport, hiking & admiring turtles at Grand Cul-de-Sac, and of course partying at Nikki Beach.
On St. Martin it's an absolute bucket-list to catch jumbo airlines landing at SXM over Maho Beach. Exploring both the French & Dutch sides is always exciting to see the different cultures on the same island. We visited downtown Philipsburg, Marigot, Fort St. Louis, & Loterie Farm to hike up to Pic Paradis.

St Barth Amazing Plane landing and Takeoff footage at Gustaf III Airport
Crazy !! Landings and Take Offs at Saint Barthelemy Airport recorder Tuesday, 13 November 2014. I flew to the island by Winair and was fortunate to have Roger as captain on the plane, the first recordings are from Approach seen from the top of the hill at the roundabout, there are 2 police officers which control the cars, the one will have to duck when a plane comes very low (see slow shots). Then there is footage from the beach end of the airport, and finally, the last recordings from approximately centerpiece airport, the day ends so with a heavy rain.

Saint-Jean is a quartier of Saint Barthélemy usually referred to as St Barths (aka St Barts) in the Caribbean. It is located in the northern part of the tropical island and contains one of the best-known beaches (including Nikki Beach, St Jean Beach) and is the centre of water sport activity on the island.

Check out the Eden Rock Hotel and Restaurant in St. Jean, which features a beach bar, bistro and restaurant with beautiful ocean views. Topless bathing and swimming here is okay, but you won’t see people walking freely in the nude like on St. Martin.

St. Barts, St. Barth or St. Barthelemy. Whatever you call it, it's our favorite island in the Caribbean as well as a favorite getaway location for many celebs. Nowhere in the Caribbean will you find better restaurants, shopping and beautiful beaches. There are no high rise hotels or huge all inclusive resorts. Renting a private villa or small hotels is the way to go.
