■ SRI LANKA, THALPE: There are times when your food options are bountiful and there are times when you have no options at all. After over 90 minutes on the road, cruising along the Southern coastline of Sri Lanka, I finally spotted a tiny restaurant. It was the first one I'd seen open since I left Hikkaduwa.
I ventured inside and the owner had already put down a rice curry dish on the table for me. But this was no ordinary Sri Lankan rice curry. For it contained a secret ingredient....

Did you expect this in New Zealand? When you come to New Zealand, you'll be shocked to see gangs. Gangs in New Zealand are so unafraid of the Police that they ride obnoxiously loud motorcycles so you can hear them a mile away.
They even wear a uniform which includes a gang patch, so you know which gang they're from.
This is how open and obvious organised crime is in New Zealand. And for visitors like my wife, it's shocking.
If you stay away from them, they won't bug ya. But the reality is gangs are known for the drug trade, murder, theft, violence against women, and the list goes on.
There are numerous gangs in New Zealand, of varying criminality, organisation and ethnicity, including outlaw motorcycle gangs, street gangs and ethnically based gangs. A chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle club was formed in Auckland in 1961, the first Hells Angels chapter outside the US.
Soon after, the Mongrel Mob formed in Hastings and Wellington, developing into a predominantly Māori and Pacific Islander gang and having the largest membership in the country.
Through the 1960s and 1970s, other outlaw motorcycle clubs and ethnically based gangs formed, including another predominantly Māori gang, Black Power (not related to the African-American movement), which grew to rival the Mongrel Mob. from Wikipedia.

■ SRI LANKA, HIKKADUWA: New year's eve for Sri Lankans doesn't fall on December 31st, but April 14th. The occasion is marked by a family feast with some rather unique sweets that are prepared in the days before. Having gotten a thorough insight into what Sri Lankan villagers eat in the last 3 weeks of the year, I was eager to see what they cook up to mark the beginning of a new one.
More importantly I was eager to see if I could become a Sri Lankan Master chef. Needless to say things didn’t go according to plan....... ????????????♂️

I was in Sri Lanka for the last 3 months (Feb- May 2022) as a tourist amidst the economy collapsing and saw the Sri Lankan political crisis unfold in front of me as citizens across the country took to the streets to protest the government's mismanagement and demand President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's resignation. Here is a summary of my experience during this time, why I think safety (for tourists) isn't what certain media outlets make it out to be, and reasons why it can be tricky to visit Sri Lanka at the moment

Day 01 | My solo trip to Sri lanka | Bentota - with English subs
Hello everyone, this vlog is the starting of my new Sri Lankan series. In this vlog i begin my journey from a coastal city in Sri Lanka called Bentota. I have given the information about where i stayed for 2 nights in the video. I took a tuktuk on rent for a full day and explored the city including Brief Garden by Bevis Bawa , Kande Vihara and Induruwa Sea Turtle Conservation Project.
Below are the details of the attractions :-
*Brief Garden by Bevis Bawa - this beautiful garden is designed by Bevis Bawa. It has many themes like french, Italian, Chinese and Japanese.
*Kande Vihara - This temple is named Kande Vihara as it's on the top of a hill. It is a Buddhist temple which is considered one of the tallest sitting Buddha statues in the world.
*Induruwa Sea Turtle Conservation - I saw various species of turtles here and saw how they are making conservation efforts for these sea turtles. This is totally dependent on tourists and the entrance fee paid by them.
Bentota is famous for its beach and surfing , in case you don't know how to surf, it is a perfect destination to learn that. But unfortunately i couldn't make it to this beach, as i thought to visit it in the evening but after my day excursion it was raining.
I met few people in my accommodation and joined them for the dinner. The music in there was too loud so i decided to end my vlog there. i hope you will like this new video of my Sri Lanka series.

This week we go to the beach side town of Unawatuna in South Sri Lanka! It's where Kristina lived during curfew (quarantine) before we met, so we check out the place she spend those 3 months, play a bit of UFC on Playstation, grab lunch at our favorite coffee shop in all of Sri Lanka, and start the day with a dip into the ocean on Kristina's 2nd ever time going scuba diving!
