Sri Lanka's Coconut Man ????????

Fresh King Coconut in Jaffna, Sri Lanka ????????

This type of yellow coconuts are called King Coconuts and are also known as Thambili in Sri Lanka. I've only ever seen these in Sri Lanka and the south of India.

These coconuts are very popular in Sri Lanka and highly valued for their refreshing and nutrient-rich water. King coconuts are typically harvested when they are young, as they contain more water than mature coconuts.

Compared to regular coconuts, King coconuts have a bright orange outer shell that is softer and more pliable than the tough brown shell of regular coconuts. The water inside King coconuts is also sweeter and less acidic than that of regular coconuts. Additionally, King coconuts contain a higher amount of electrolytes, making them an excellent source of hydration for people who are engaging in physical activities or suffering from dehydration. The flesh of the King coconut is also softer and more jelly-like than the meat of regular coconuts, making it a popular ingredient in local desserts and beverages.

Don't Trust This Man in Colombo, Sri Lanka ????????

Avoid these guys who stalk tourists and then try to take you on a tour. For sure you're going to get scammed, cheated and ripped off. Best to figure out where to go by yourself and then use a local ride hailing app like PickMe to get there.

BEST COCONUT CHILI SAMBAL - Next Level Village Food in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka!

SIGIRIYA, SRI LANKA - This was an amazing day in Sri Lanka - we first began the day hiking to Sigiriya, a massive rock formation with a fortress at the top. Afterwards we continued to a family home who prepared us an outstanding Sri Lankan food meal - one of the best of the trip.

We started the hike early in the morning, and already it was getting buy. But immediately as you arrive, you’ll feel a mystic auro to the rock and the entire site. The fortress and palace at the top of the rock was created and developed by King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE). The mystery is that when he passed away, the empire collapsed and no one really knows what happened. Entrance ticket - $30 USD, a little expensive, but worth it, and a very cool experience.

After we got down from the rock we then drove over to a Sri Lankan village where we met our host family and they had already started cooking an amazing home cooked meal, all in clay pots. One of the highlight dishes was deer meat, both dried and a fresh, cooked in a loads of different Sri Lankan spices. The food was incredible.

Kotchi sambal - But probably my favorite part of the entire meal was watching her make kotchi sambal from scratch - a combination of fresh shredded mature coconut ground with chilies and onions, and a squeeze of lime juice. It was outstanding, and was so good I could have eaten it as a main dish rather than just a garnish side.

It was an amazing day of Sri Lankan food and travel in Sigiriya!

Thank you to everyone who generously hosted me in Sigiriya, for the delicious food, and to Ruzaina for arranging everything. Go check out her videos:

This man won't leave you alone! ????????

■ SRI LANKA, HAPUTALE: After unsuccessfully trying to find something that looked edible and unlikely to make for a troublesome return bus journey to Ella, I opted for the safety of a Snickers and Mars bar. With my newfound sugar high it was time to check out the local Haputale market.

Perched high on a cliff side adjacent to the train station, this market offers stunningly high views and correspondingly low prices. A rare combination. So just how cheap is this market and what do they sell here? Why is the Yes Man of Haputale following me? And did I manage to escape the Yes Man of Sri Lanka in the end?

Avoid this man in Sri Lanka! ????????

■ SRI LANKA, COLOMBO: Be careful he is a bad man, they kept repeating as I wandered around a vegetable market on the outskirts of Colombo. Then 'the accused' told me that the people who told me to avoid him were bad themselves. Who was I to believe?

Intent on not making a hasty decision I decided to wait it out and see as this was a unique market experience unlike no other.

Serving Sri Lanka's Finest: King Coconut Water in the UAE #travelvlog #kingcoconut #srilanka

King coconut, scientifically known as Cocos nucifera var. aurantiaca, is a distinctive and cherished coconut variety found primarily in Sri Lanka. This unique fruit is renowned for its vibrant orange or golden-yellow outer husk, setting it apart from the more common green coconuts. King coconuts are not only visually striking but also highly valued for their refreshing and sweet water, which is a popular natural beverage in Sri Lanka.

The water from king coconuts is not only delicious but also naturally rich in electrolytes, making it an excellent choice for hydration, especially in the country's tropical climate. Locals and tourists alike relish this beverage, often sipped directly from the coconut with a straw or enjoyed in the form of freshly extracted juice.

Besides its thirst-quenching properties, king coconut water is believed to offer various health benefits, including aiding digestion and promoting overall well-being. Additionally, the tender flesh of the king coconut is occasionally enjoyed as a snack or dessert, further adding to its culinary appeal.

Overall, the king coconut holds a special place in Sri Lankan culture and cuisine, celebrated for its unique appearance, refreshing taste, and potential health benefits. It's not just a fruit but a symbol of tropical delight and wellness in this beautiful island nation.
