T-shirts and caps:

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA - We went on an ultimate Sri Lankan street food tour of Colombo, starting from the outskirts of the city and working our way into the market, and all the way to the Galle Face coast. Colombo is a fantastic city, vibrant, and calm and relaxing all the at the same time, and an array of delicious food.

Breakfast roti - We started in the morning for a classic Sri Lankan food breakfast, roti, stuffed with egg, chopped up and topped with curry sauce and dall. It was delicious, especially followed with ginger tea. Total price - 200 LKR ($1.12)

Milano Hotel (Restaurant) - For lunch, Ruzaina and I went to eat at one of her favorite Sri Lankan local restaurants serving a mix of rice and curry. Highly recommended. Total price - 760 LKR ($4.24)

New Paris Hotel - One of my favorite Sri Lankan foods is hoppers, and more specifically egg hoppers - a combinations of rice flour batter and coconut milk, fried in a rounded skillet and topped with an egg. Egg hoppers - 40 LKR ($0.22) each

Pettah - We continued this Sri Lankan street food tour to Pettah, a busy business district of Colombo. We met up with Abram: to do some more eating.

Fruit - 100 LKR ($0.56) - First we stopped to eat some pickled and candied fruit. I especially liked the black pepper rub on some of the fruit like the pineapple.

Bombay Sweetmeat Mart - One of the popular local Sri Lankan things to eat in Pettah is faluda and samosas. Pretty good, but I’m not huge on faluda. Total price - 320 LKR ($1.79)

Intestines and chicken necks - 390 LKR ($2.18) - Next we stopped to eat intestines and tripe, and chicken necks. All of it was pretty tasty, my kind of snack.

Brains - 660 LKR ($3.68) - Next up on this Sri Lankan street food tour, we had a huge bite of brains, all of us.

Galle Face - Finally, to end this Sri Lankan food tour, we headed to the most iconic area of Colombo - Galle Face. In the evening you’ll find food vendors setting up, selling snacks and quick meals. Isso Vadai - 200 LKR ($1.12) - are fried little fritters of shrimp and crab, and it’s something you’ve got to try. I ended with special kottu roti - 600 LKR ($3.35).

It was a great time of eating Sri Lankan food. Special thank you to Ruzaina for taking me around:

Sri Lankan Food - SPICY OMELET CURRY + Exotic Fruit in Weligama, Sri Lanka!

Sri Lankan crab curry:
Best of Sri Lanka food tour with The Hungry Tourist:
T-shirts and caps:

Colombo to Weligama, Sri Lanka - On Day 2 of the Best of Sri Lanka Food Tour with The Hungry Tourist ( we had lunch first in Colombo, before driving to the Southern coast of Sri Lanka, near Weligama. Along the way, we stopped to taste a bunch of local Sri Lankan fruit, including plenty of delicious durian.

Mayura Hotel - Northern Sri Lankan food - I had no idea what to expect this day, I didn’t even really know the plan other than driving to Weligama. But we first headed into the busy Pettah area of Colombo for some serious Sri Lankan food from Northern Sri Lanka. Along with serving banana leaf rice and curry with a variety of different curries and seafoods, they also specialized in spicy omelets. The food was incredibly delicious, all the different curries, wrapped up with rice, and smothered in spicy omelet.

Weligama, Sri Lanka - The drive from Colombo to Weligama was about 2 hours, and once we arrived to the Southern coast of Sri Lanka, we noticed a truck full of durian. Durian is the King of Fruits, and anytime you see it, you have to stop. We stopped and ate a few durians, which were excellent and bought some to go as well. Just a few hundred meters up the road, we stopped again for another fruit stop to taste of of Sri Lanka’s bounty of fruit. Delicious.

Zephyr Restaurant & Bar - Again for dinner, all I knew is that we were going to go to the beach and eat a meal on the beach. Zephyr Restaurant & Bar is actually quite a touristy restaurant, but Ruzaina had arranged a special local meal, including all southern Sri Lankan food. The meal was unbelievably good, dish after dish kept coming, including huge prawns and Sri Lankan crab. It was a meal to remember.

And make sure to subscribe to Ruzaina's channel here:

In Southern Sri Lanka, in Galle, we're bringing you to the local fish market and street food area to pull in a HUGE fishing net with the local fishermen. We're showing you how catching fish is done every day for the local fishermen and seafood vendors here in Galle, and also showing you the fish cutting!

Sri Lanka has some of the BEST Street Food in the world! Today, we're buying a MASSIVE fish from the fish market in Galle, Sri Lanka, and then bringing it to the fish cutting station to chop up into massive steak like chunks and bring to our local friends home to cook into a CREAMY and slightly SPICY fish CURRY! The fish curry is prepared 2 ways, the first is the body and is in a mustardy and slightly sour and peppery broth, and the second way is a fish head curry that is quite creamy with home made coconut milk.

When we brought this fish from the fish market, many of the other SPICY and flavourful Sri Lankan home cooked curries were already prepared, so we watched the final preparation of these homemade Sri Lankan recipes in the traditional Sri Lankan kitchen. The pots were all made of clay and the fire was made with Sri Lankan Ceylon cinnamon!

There were quite a few fish in the net when we pulled it in at this local fish market in Galle. The famous fish are the pariah fish and the big malet fish as the locals called it. All of these fish can either be cooked up Sri Lankan style or also BBQ on one of the many restaurants found on the street side in Galle.

This is the fifth street food video from Sri Lanka. We've filmed some amazing Sri Lankan seafood videos, like a Sri Lankan mud crab tour:

OMG Sri Lankan Seafood at MINISTRY OF CRAB! | Food Tour in Colombo, Sri Lanka!

Watch more Sri Lankan Food videos:
Best of Sri Lanka food tour with The Hungry Tourist:
T-shirts and caps:

Nelum Kole Restaurant - To begin the day we started off at Nelum Kole Restaurant, a Sri Lankan food restaurant serving a massive buffet of different Sri Lankan food dishes. Overall, the food was good, but not the best Sri Lankan food I had. Flavors tasted too similar to each other. It is a good place to taste variety though.

Dilmah Tea Lounge - After lunch we headed to a Dilmah Tea Lounge and drank a few teas all of which were very good.

Ministry of Crab - Rated as one of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, Ministry of Crab is one of the most iconic restaurant serving seafood and especially Sri Lankan crabs in Colombo. It’s a high end restaurant, with prices that go with it, but I do have to admit that it was extremely tasty. The river shrimp, the black pepper crab was delicious. Price - about 30,000 LKR ($165.53) per OMG crab - I think it’s overpriced - but it is good.

Today, we're traveling to Colombo, Sri Lanka to enjoy delicious street food in Sri Lanka and some of the best home cooked Sri Lankan recipes in the world at her granny's home.

We're going for a HUGE Sri Lankan street food Adventure outside of Colombo, Sri Lanka, continuing from last week's HUGE MUD CRAB ADVENTURE, shown here:

►Sri Lankan Mud Crab Tour:

First up, Ruzaina is bringing us to a local farmers market outside of Colombo, to see and smell the huge variety of fresh spices available in Sri Lankan cuisine. We found some amazing street food and snacks at the market to try as well. Ruzaina bought 2 fresh and hot jaggery and tapioca spiced drinks from a street food vendor at the market. They were fantastic! The market was located outside of colombo and featured a ton of street food to try in Sri Lanka. The name o the street food market is MAHARAGAMA POLA.

After the market, Ruzaina brought us to her Granny's home. It was an amazing experience to witness the home cooked sri lankan recipes being made right in front of us. Ruzaina's granny cooked up a huge spread of traditional sri lankan foods and some extreme Sri Lankan foods as well, like PLUMP Testicle curry and deep fried brain cutlets. All of the food was fantastic!

After the amazing home cooked sri lankan meal, Ruzaina brought us for more amazing Sri Lankan street food. First, we went to an AMAZING rice and curry restaurant in Colombo for a late lunch meal. It was incredibly delicious and full of spice! We got the chicken curry and dal lentil mix with some shrimp and spicy pol sambal as well. The rice and curry restaurant was called Gunasiri Restaurant, downtown colombo, right near Galle face.

After that, Ruzaina brought us to another amazing street food in Sri Lanka, the Dolphin kotthu. This is a wok fried roti dish that is spicy and soaked with gravy and slices of chicken. It was super tasty! It was found at Grand pillawoos battaramulla.

Today, we're traveling to Kandy, Sri Lanka to enjoy delicious street food in Sri Lanka and some of the best vegetarian food in Sri Lanka and also some really flavourful rice and curry in Kandy! This Kandy Food Market adventure we're bringing you on is worth watching! This is the FULL-ON Sri Lankan beautiful train ride adventure!

We're bringing you here to Kandy for a HUGE Sri Lankan street food Adventure continuing from last week's HUGE Home Cooked Meal adventure here:

►Sri Lankan Home cooked food tour:
►Sri Lankan Mud Crab Tour:

First up, we're taking the morning train from Colombo to Kandy to experience the true natural beauty of Sri Lanka. This was one of the most beautiful train rides we've ever experienced. The beautiful countryside of Sri Lanka was stunningly pristine and worth flying in just to take this train ride for. The train traveled fairly slow so you can watch out the window and bask in the beauty for the whole 3 hour ride.

After arriving in Kandy, we're bringing you to a famous Sri Lankan spicy rice and curry joint to try the famous Lumprais AKA Lumprice. Here at Sri Ramya in Kandy, there is a ton of selection of spicy curries and Sri Lankan famous specialties, like Kotthu, Biryani, Chicken curry, and Lumprice. We came specifically to try the lumprice, so we went upstairs to see how it was made. An entire banana leaf is cut up into sections and then each section is filled with the most aromatic spice infused rice and topped with extremely flavourful curries. At Sri Ramya, there was an onion sambal, some delicious and sweet eggplant moju, and some super tasty and spicy chicken curry.

After this amazing Lumprice meal, we're going to a famous vegetarian food hawker area called Hela Bojun food stalls. There are various outlets in Kandy. What's so amazing about the Hela Bojun stalls is the joobs that each centre creates for local women to empower them to run their own business. We tried some delicious dosa and local curries.

After this, to finish off our street food tour of Kandy, we're going out to the local Ceylon tea fields to have a cup of ceylon tea. It was very sweet, perhaps a little too sweet! And the vegetable roti was probably the worst roti I've ever tasted. But that's alright, the scenery was magnificent!

Village Food in Sri Lanka - Epic 19 DIFFERENT Sri Lankan Dishes!

Best of Sri Lanka food tour with The Hungry Tourist:
T-shirts and caps:

WELIGAMA, SRI LANKA

Weligama is a beautiful town on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, and they happen to have some incredible local food. During the Best of Sri Lanka Food Tour with The Hungry Tourist, we were invited by Uchith and Nick to a relatives home, where they prepared a massive home cooked village cooking and eating experience.

I went a little early to see some of the Sri Lankan food cooking and as they prepared all the dishes. Most of the Sri Lankan food dishes were prepared in earthenware clay pots, cooked over fire to give each dish an incredible complexity and smokiness.

There were more than 19 different Sri Lankan food dishes that they prepared and that we tasted during the day. Some of the dishes were local regional southern Sri Lankan food, and each was spectacular in flavor and complexity of spice.

I wanted to take a little of every single dish, and my plate piled up so high, I didn’t ever realize it. It was an absolutely Sri Lankan food feast!

Huge thank you to Uchith, Nick, and Lakk from The Station LK for hosting us at their family home and for putting on a spectacular home cooked village food experience in Sri Lanka!
