In search of the German language's cousin in the New World.
PLEASE enable subtitles before watching. Although this lady's father is from Düsseldorf, she is actually speaking the local dialect of Plattdeutsch called Texas German. This is a language that began diverging from European German since it arrived in Texas in the 1840's.

A Little Bit Of Germany In Texas Part 4, Featuring the Bavarian Grill

This video (Part 4)concludes my Texas trip in February 2021. The Finley's and I had visited the Bavarian Grill located in Plano, Tx and everything from top to bottom was top notch.
The ambiance and the food were a delight especially every time I took a bite of my Schweinhaxe.
To the Folks that live in the DFW and Plano area make it a priority to try the best German/Bavarian food this side of the ocean.
The Bavarian Grill has earned many (too many to count) awards for being the Best German Restaurant /#1 in the nation, 2006, 07,08, 09, 10, 11, 12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19 and 20.Please see the link below.
Herr (Mr.) Juergen Mahneke who is the owner gave me a personalized tour of his fine restaurant and it was awesome.
I guarantee you when I travel to Texas again I will make it a point to visit the Bavarian Grill and I believe you would as well after trying this wonderful establishment for the first time.

They fled from Europe and Canada seeking religious freedom and eventually found it in Chihuahua Mexico. The Mennonites live a very traditional life and are very strict with their norms and with what they can and can't do. City Of Muenster - Best German Heritage Experience - Texas 2019
Welcome to Muenster, Texas which came to be in 1889 when a small group of German Catholic settlers purchased land and started building a community. Located on US Hwy 82 just 14 miles west of I-35 and about 70 miles from the DFW airport. There are vineyards, shopping and a real glockenspeil clock so come visit for a day or plan to stay a while.

German Heritage in Fredericksburg Texas
Settled in 1846 by German Immigrants, Fredericksburg's German roots can still be seen in many of the city's cuisine, customs and architecture.
Hi, I am Daryl Whitworth, a fifth generation resident of the Hill Country and I want to share a little about our German heritage.
German was the main language spoken here until the 1940's and to put that in perspective; when my father started school in a one room school house south of town in the 1930's he was the only one in his class who could speak English. All of his classmates spoke only Duetsch, but learned English in school.
Today, I am standing here in the center of Fredericksburg on Martkplatz. Not only is Marktplatz home to a number of festivals that pay homage to our German roots- like our three-day Oktoberfest; at Marktplatz you can also find the Maibaum, which depicts Fredericksburg's history.
As you travel around Fredericksburg you'll also notice buildings with German influenced architecture. Take a trip to the Pioneer Museum to see an example of fachwerk, the German architectural style consisting of timber framing with an infill of limestone; and a Sunday House, a single room weekend home commonly built by Fredericksburg's early German settlers.
And if you're looking for a more hands-on approach to our German heritage- take a glimpse into the life of a traditional German farm family when you visit the Sauer Beckmann Living History Farm at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site in nearby Stonewall.
From outdoor Biergartens that serve up German style biers, to restaurants that offer traditional style German fare like brats, schnitzels and sauerkraut; to upscale German cuisine, it's easy to find a great German meal in Fredericksburg.

Walburg, originally called Concordia, is an unincorporated area located at the crossroads of Farm to Market Road 972 (FM 972) and Farm to Market Road 1105 (FM 1105) in Williamson County, Texas, United States, thirty-three miles northeast of Austin. Walburg is a German American settlement.[1] With its heritage of buildings from the late 1890s, Walburg is a popular site for films, including Michael and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 2.
Walburg also hosted filming for the motion picture Stars Over Henrietta.
Walburg is known for being a German farming community and has two Lutheran churches, one an LCMS congregation and one LCMC Congregation. Zion Lutheran ( sits on a hill overlooking the community and hosts an Annual Wurstbraten which attracts and serves several thousand each year. St. Peter Lutheran is the other Lutheran Church in the immediate vicinity of Walburg.
Walburg also hosts several notable businesses including Mickan Motor Company and The Backbone of Walburg and previously had its own bank. Walburg State Bank, as it was once known, survived independently even through several national banking collapses and at least two bank robberies. It was sold in the early 1990s and closed its Walburg location.
Walburg is home to two restaurants, Dale's Essenhaus [2] and The Walburg Restaurant.[3] Both feature live music venues which can be heard through the hills and pastures surrounding Walburg on weekend evenings.
Walburg is also home to two graveyards. Zion Lutheran's graveyard is right next to the church. The other graveyard is slightly farther down the road. This one contains a certain tree from which an alleged horse thief in the 1800s was hanged. It is often said that his ghost haunts the town.
