We were so lucky to be recommended hiking Congost de Mont-rebei in Catalonia and it turns out to be our best thing to do in Spain. You can do it on the Aragon side but we explored the Catalonian side. After another night in the car we came to a must see hidden gem in Spain. The hike took in total 8 hours but was worth every step. The blue water of the river running through was breathtaking as was the trek trail itself. This place is so far off the tourist trail and beaten path and collectively we saw about 3 people the whole day. If you want to feel like you are discovering some hidden place like an old fashioned adventurer, this is the one for you. In this Spain travel video we hopefully capture why it is worth coming to Spain for Congost de Mont-rebei alone.

8 Best Hikes in Andalusia ???????? Spain Hiking Road Trip

Hiking in Spain. We traveled to Southern Spain on a road trip and hiked 8 of the best hiking trails in Andalusia (Andalucia). It is very diverse, and so is our list of the hiking trails — each one is the best in its own category and they showcase the wild and naked nature of the Spanish South. These hidden gems are spread out through all of Andalusia, starting from Almeria in the East to the National Park of Sierra Grazalema in the West. This video includes also some travel tips and where to park your car at the trailheads.

Two out of the eight trails require a reservation in advance:

— The Caminito del Rey trail which has also an entrance fee. Tickets can be purchased for guided group tours which costs 18 EUR, or a single visit without guide for 10 EUR. We preferred the unguided tour, but there's a daily limit of 10 tickets in this category, and our dates was fully booked already. So we had to buy the guided tour tickets, but we ended up without the group as you can see in the video.

— And the Garganta Verde trail which is for free but requires a permit that you can get by sending them an email to cvelbosque.amaya@reservatuvisita.es. They have several trails, so include the following information in your email:

I would like to apply for a permit for 2 persons:

4 Best Hikes in the Pyrenees ???????? ???????? France & Spain Road Trip

Hiking in the Pyrenees mountains. We spent 4 days in a road trip traveling and hiking in the High Pyrenees (Hautes-Pyrenees or Altos Pirineos) of France and Spain—in rough November weather. As it was our first time visit there, we wanted to get a diverse list of trails, so this video features our final selection of the 4 best day hikes. Two of them are on the French side, the other two—on the Spanish side. These hiking trails best showcase the wild and naked nature of the Pyrenees.

The first one lies in France, and it's a hike to the lake of lakes in the Pyrenees–Lac de Gaube (8 km loop with 400m elevation gain). Then, a visit to the majestic waterfall at Cirque de Gavarnie (11 km loop with almost 800m of elevation gain), which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Pyrenees Mont Perdu. On the Spanish side, Aragon, we explore a true hidden gem—the 15 km loop (almost 1000m of elevation gain) to the valley of Aguas Tuertas, the Secus mountain, and the grandiose Castillo de Acher. Last but not least, the Ordesa Valley and a hike to Faja Racon with a dizzling detour to the Tozal del Mallo (15 km with 1400m elevation gain). This video includes also some travel tips and where to park your car at the trailheads.

You can find all of these trails on our map:

Hiking in Arzúa in Galicia Spain | Waterfalls in Northern Spain

I didn't know where Alfonso (a Galician local) was taking me. Still, we were able to explore the waterfalls of his childhood, traipse past areas where they would wash clothes in the river, see giant slugs, ride a car ferry across a reservoir and see Betzanos a small village along the Camino de Santiago (Camino Ingles) along with Arzua backcountry. Come with me on a journey of getting comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Bright Colorful October Hike from Planoles to Dorria on the GR11 trail in Pyrenees, Spain | Day 1

On this first day of the GR11 section hike from Planoles to Puigcerda we did around 17kms and got from Planoles to Dorria, ascended 800m from 1200m to 2000m and camped at Pleta dels Anyells.

This whole hike of around 50kms we planned to divide in 3 days and starting from Planoles, Spain get to the Puigcerda village following the GR11 and then crossing the Cerdanya valley get to Llivia and ascend up to the Odeillo village, France. We were starting this hike in the late October but as the weather was very nice and warm still we decided to take advantage of it as those could be the last warm days in the season. Also we haven’t been to this area before and wanted to explore the trail a bit more and it was a nice opportunity to do so.

So we were starting the trail in a small village of Planoles that we crossed quite fast and found our trek climbing up away from the village. From the very first steps we could enjoy the bright autumn colors around us and plenty of colorful leaves under our feet. We could see the big direction sign of GR11 and knew that we are on the right way. We knew that the trail for that day would be mostly climbing uphill for 800m at least and 15kms long. But we expected it to be quite gentle and easy to follow with no extreme parts…
