Namibia Road Trip 2021 ???????? Fish River Canyon, Luderitz & Sossusvlei
We recently visited Southern Namibia on a 10 day overland road trip. Visiting the Fish River Canyon, Luderitz and the diamond mining ghost towns of Kolmanskop (Kolmannskuppe) and Elizabeth Bay. From there we turned north to Sossusvlei, an incredible and special place where the Tsauchab River finds it's way to the ocean blocked by the desert sands.
We were privileged to experience water in Sossusvlei, a rare event that only occurs very occasionally after exceptionally good rains in the catchment area. Deadvlei, with it's ancient, 800 year old petrified camel thorn trees is another special place, well deserving of inclusion in my 60460 bucket list.
Time was limited so from Sossusvlei we turned back south towards the Orange River where we crossed back into South Africa after an awesome, mostly gravel roads adventure. This video includes the highlights, in the next few weeks I'll be publishing more detailed videos of each place.

A drone eye view of the Mountain View Suite. With 200 square metres of deck rising above the dunes, the Mountain View Suite provides ample living space and adds a touch of luxury to the Wolwedans Collection.
The Suite is located within walking distance from the Dunes Lodge, yet it is secluded, allowing guests to spend time in a homely and stylish atmosphere. Consisting of a spacious en-suite bedroom with a king-size bed, the Suite enables guests to enjoy the view of their private dune valley to the fullest.
A shaded patio provides an ideal venue for meals and relaxed hours lazing in a hammock. Add to this a spacious lounge, bar cabinet and dining area and you have a wonderful home away from home.
In the event that guests wish to enjoy their meals ‘entre-nous’, an open-plan kitchenette supports the preparation of meals at the Suite. An east-facing veranda and sundeck lead from the platform into the surrounding dunes. The main veranda has a ‘star-gazing’ bed, which provides a wonderful sleep-out venue during summer.
Keeping in line with the traditional Wolwedans style, the ambience is that of plain elegance embraced by a natural, comfortable charm.

This is the first part of our road trip exploring Namibia's South. Green riverbeds and desert lilies on the canyon are what made our days. Enjoy the beauty of the desert.
NAMIBIA ROADTRIP - PART 2
We drove further to Swakopmund, the second largest city in Namibia. We did a guided tour to Sandwich Harbour the only place in the world where the desert and ocean meet each other. After spending some time at the coast we drove further to Cape Cross where we saw thousands of seals. Such an amazing atmosphere and awful smell! The next few days we will be visiting Etosha & Waterberg national park so stay tuned for some amazing wild life shots!

This adventure takes place in remote northwest Namibia We continue from the town of Swakopmund. We head south on the main and only highway. The road ends at a salt plant. On the south side of town.
Time to let some air out of the tires and engage 4WD.
Our objective is Sandwich Harbor. But there are no roads leading to Sandwich Harbor. Just inshore tracks beach sand and dune driving. We opted for the inland option.
According to our trusty Tracks 4 Africa... We are heading approximately back to the coast.
The problem with large sand dunes is that Ben's little car struggles to get over the top. In this case, even reach the top. But Ben is determined.
Ben gets out and looks for alternatives. If you can't get over it, then go around it.
We're still looking for a way around that big dune. This lowland option is a maze
and this slippery black muck is easy to get stuck in.
Success
Back in the dunes we find a track. At last we reach the coast again and the border of the Namib-Naukluft Park.
We continue south along the beach. Where we meet a seal sunbathing. But she doesn't like Ben's paparazzi photo style. Ok, maybe just one more photo.
Late in the day we ran out of beach. We had reached a point where the dunes ended in the surf. We decided to setup another free camp for the night.
These are the classic surreal images of Namibia.

Just north of Sandwich Harbor.
Good morning on day 4.
Ben has noticed that his wheels are not turning properly. It's spinning? This one is spinning. and the rear one? Was the right one spinning? No.
It's just spinning on one side so I've gotta get that fixed in Swakop. But first we need to dig the car out.
Our goal? Return to Swakopmund.
In Walvis Bay, Ben finds a place that can take a look at the diff-lock.

The White House on B1 in Namibia is the last word in comfort & replenishment for the weary traveller
Join us for an over stay in this spectacular guest farm on the main national North to South B1 route through Namibia. The most spectcualr country in the world! This guest has everything for the weary traveller. I loved the freshly cooked food made with love on site with locally grown farm fresh produce. I could not get enough of it! The mini bars in the rooms are by far the best mini bars I have ever encountered. Las Vegas eat your heart out!
There is only one place to stay on the B1. The White House Guest Farm!
