Greenland - Since 8 years I'm traveling to this magical country. Today quiet and untouched places are becoming more and more rare. On my first visit to Greenland, I was fascinated by the incredible power of nature that can be felt everywhere. But during the last years things have changed. The amount of icebergs is increasing savagely. Glaciers I'm visiting every year are retreating not meters but kilometers a year and the unending amount of ice seems to be endless. There is nothing more beautiful than an iceberg - everyone is unique and the light reflecting from its surface is magical. It's sad how close beauty and decay can be seen in an iceberg. This movie is is an appreciation to the ice - for me the most amazing aggregate state of water.

Behind the scenes
For this short film I travelled to Greenland with my drones several times. Always with the target of a certain region in a certain light situation. The shots from the calving glacier took me 4 days at the Eqi Glacier and over 70 battery charges for only 4 usable shots of a few seconds. It's a very hard intention to film the very right moment on a glacier front of about 6km wide - especially close up. But the hardest thing of flying in Greenland is the fact, that every 2-3 minutes the difference between the magnetic north and the geographic north (which are not the same place - especially so far north) causing a fatal p-gps flight error and the drone is flying away (also the camera's horizon). But at the end every single flight was worth it - filming Icebergs from above is one of the most beautiful things I've ever done. Additionally I used the drone to scout the landing spot and look for polar bears. The best thing for bears and humans is to not meet each other on shore.

Summer In South Greenland

South Greenland lives up to its name as it is truly a green land. Agriculture thrives here with many farms and luxuriant vegetables, in contrast to a barren ice world that covers much of Greenland.

South Greenland

Packrafting trip south from Narsarsuaq to Aappilattoq and then to Nanortalik .
It took 30 days during witch we had all kind of weather from warm and sunny days to wet and cold; from lush green fields to amazing foliage colors and snow at higher altitudes.

Trip report:

East Greenland: an Arctic adventure beyond all expectations

The Arctic is full of otherworldly destinations, places so remote and arresting to the senses that they seem designed to astound both newcomers and returning travelers alike.

But even among such surreal locations, there are a few that rise above the rest. In terms of scenery, wildlife, and all the exhilarating activities they offer, some places are simply better suited to blowing the mind of everyone who encounters them.

East Greenland is such a place.

In this beautifully shot video, you’ll see some of the near-limitless highlights you can enjoy in this expectation-defying island. Hear what our passengers, guides, and the filmmaker himself have to say about areas like Scoresby Sund, the largest fjord system on the planet. Enjoy the sights and sounds of extraordinary Arctic wildlife in its natural habitat.

And while you’re at it, imagine yourself experiencing all of this firsthand.

That’s what we have been delivering to guests from all over the world for more than a quarter century. Though our cruises offer exemplary food and comfort, as you’ll see, our trips are not leisure cruises. They are expedition voyages in every sense of the phrase.

That means we get you off the ship and into the action as often as local conditions allow, immersing you in the polar environment by boot, boat, and paddle. Whether it’s kayaking among dazzling icebergs or hiking Greenland’s gorgeously mountainous shoreline, you’ll feel like you have joined one of the historic polar expeditions of yesteryear – but in far greater comfort!

South Greenland – Wilderness Origins 6/6

Follow me on my two-month trip through the magic landscapes of South Greenland. Follow me on my deepest journey I’ve ever done so far. On the trails of an ancient legend, Erik the Red.

From Narsarsuaq, Eriksfjord, Motzfelt Lake, Jespersen Glacier, Igaliku, Tasermiut fjord, Klosterdalen Valley, Ketil, Ulamertorsuaq, Tuppaassat Valley, Kangikitsaq Fjord, Aappilattoq, Itillersuaq Valley, Tasiusaq, to Nanortalik in two months.

A solo travel journey - a trekking tour, an inner quest to myself. A climbing adventure through South Greenland in August & September 2018.

“I’d like to move. But I can’t. The ice holds me back. Watching infinite beauty for hours. Watch it changing, the shape and colours. I don’t feel anything but great respect. The ice: It quickly draws the eyes under its magic spell. A thousand years it takes to form. A thousand years it takes to move. A thousand years to arrive. I am deeply impressed by the performance of my body and by its rapid adaption to the terrain. Deeply inspired by the landscapes and the lights. I walked between 4.3 billion year old rocks, sometimes covered by the magnificent ice cap. The aurora was above me. Rays seem to touch the earth like an ancient enchanted blessing. Like needles, they descended. Sometimes like blades. One can hear those very strange sounds as long as they dance. A strange noise. Something between the buzz of bees and wind chimes. The stones around me, charged by those lights for thousands of years. Me, so tiny. A blink of an eye in the history of this mountain ridge. I spent hours to watch the stones move, its merger and decay. I had hours listening to the tales from wind and fire. Although I’ve been hurt sometimes, I feel fully alive now. Completely satisfied. My present attention is remarkable and there’s a deep boundary between me and my body. It feels damn good to have it.”

Icebergs (South Greenland)

Icebergs in all shapes and sizes - best when viewed in HD. The images were shot as our boat passed close by the bergs on the morning of September 11th, 2007. Filmed in HD, in Erik's Fiord near Narsarsuaq (Greenland) in connection with the Greenland Adventure Race 2007.

Icebergs in Southern Greenland are not as grand as the ones in Northern Greenland, but they do form spectacular sculptures. Bergs of this size are from glaciers that spread out from the icecap that covers 80% of the island.

Filmed in the HDV format (1080i), uploaded as 720p.

GREENLAND- LAND OF ICE IN 2019 BY TRAVEL BEYOND BOUNDARIES

Greenland is a massive island and autonomous Danish territory between the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans. Much of its land surface is covered in ice. Most of its small population lives along the ice-free, fjord-lined coast, particularly in the southwest. Its northerly position, largely above the Arctic Circle, results in natural phenomena such as summer’s midnight sun and winter’s Northern Lights.
