Greenland - Since 8 years I'm traveling to this magical country. Today quiet and untouched places are becoming more and more rare. On my first visit to Greenland, I was fascinated by the incredible power of nature that can be felt everywhere. But during the last years things have changed. The amount of icebergs is increasing savagely. Glaciers I'm visiting every year are retreating not meters but kilometers a year and the unending amount of ice seems to be endless. There is nothing more beautiful than an iceberg - everyone is unique and the light reflecting from its surface is magical. It's sad how close beauty and decay can be seen in an iceberg. This movie is is an appreciation to the ice - for me the most amazing aggregate state of water.

Behind the scenes
For this short film I travelled to Greenland with my drones several times. Always with the target of a certain region in a certain light situation. The shots from the calving glacier took me 4 days at the Eqi Glacier and over 70 battery charges for only 4 usable shots of a few seconds. It's a very hard intention to film the very right moment on a glacier front of about 6km wide - especially close up. But the hardest thing of flying in Greenland is the fact, that every 2-3 minutes the difference between the magnetic north and the geographic north (which are not the same place - especially so far north) causing a fatal p-gps flight error and the drone is flying away (also the camera's horizon). But at the end every single flight was worth it - filming Icebergs from above is one of the most beautiful things I've ever done. Additionally I used the drone to scout the landing spot and look for polar bears. The best thing for bears and humans is to not meet each other on shore.

Nuuk - the largest city of Greenland [HD]

How to get to Greenland

Interested in how to get to Greenland? In this video, we talk about the basics of international travel to Greenland and how to get to Greenland.

Commercial airlines are the only way to get to Greenland unless you arrive on a cruise ship. There are 4 cities worldwide with direct flights to Greenland which are Copenhagen, plus three cities in Iceland (Reykjavik, Keflavik and Akureyri). Direct flights to Greenland from Iceland take around 2-3 hours, while the flight from Copenhagen to Greenland takes around 4 hours. The two airlines that currently fly to Greenland are the local airline Air Greenland and Air Iceland.

There are no direct connections from North America to Greenland at this point. However, daily connections from Canada and the US allow for an easy one-connection trip to Greenland.

All five regions in Greenland have at least one international airport with Kangerlussuaq Airport (SFJ) being the biggest transportation hub in Greenland. There are also many domestic airports that connect the other towns and settlements and make it easy to get around in Greenland.

Greenland Drone Flight: Greenland is a massive island and autonomous Danish territory between the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans. Much of its land surface is covered in ice. Most of its small population lives along the ice-free, fjord-lined coast, particularly in the southwest. Its northerly position, largely above the Arctic Circle, results in natural phenomena such as summers midnight sun and winters Northern Lights. With few roads, travel in Greenland is mainly by air or boat. Glaciers, whales, seals and polar bears can be seen on coastal cruises and on flightseeing trips from the capital Nuuk. The Sarfaq Ittuk ferry links Qaqortoq village to the icebergs of Ilulissat Icefjord. Hiking, snowmobile and dogsled expeditions visit the ice-covered interior. In Nuuk, the Greenland National Museums collections include geological exhibits and 15th-century mummies. Nuuk Art Museum displays Inuit carvings. Fishing villages and colorful cottages dot the southwest coast, and there are 13th-century Norse ruins around Igaliku in the south. [Source: Google]

Grønlapse - Time Lapse Short Film of Greenland (HD)

Comprised primarily of time lapse and landscape photography, Grønlapse is a non-verbal artistic depiction of traveling Greenland via Expedition Cruise Ship. The film documents massive icebergs, the Ilulissat glacier movement through time lapse and transits through Greenland's endless fjords in the south and east of the island. The film also captures the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights in all it's glory, exploding the dark skies into green and blue masterpieces.

Photographed and edited by New Zealand Photographer Richard Sidey, traveling on Silversea's expedition vessel, The Silver Explorer, with a stunning experimental music track from Boreal Taiga. More experimental films and time lapse photography can be found at

Rock music from Greenland

Music from Greenland rarely leaves the country, but times are changing and a number of emerging new talents, artists and bands are aiming beyond the borders of the 2,1 million km2 island in the Arctic.

Thanks to online music hot spots like Spotify, iTunes, SoundCloud it has become so much easier to tune into beats, lyrics and music from Greenland.

Start your musical journey here: and be inspired by popular rock bands such as Small Time Giants (STG), Nanook, Kimia or the DIY-band that STG recommend in this video, Pukuut.

We’ve always been trying to create honest and inspired music straight from our hearts with sounds and samples from our home country, Greenland. Greenlandic music rarely leaves Greenland, but we would love to change that. - Small Time Giants when crowdfunding for their first album, Stethoscope.
