Solo in Paro Bhutan | Tiger's Nest visit | Bhutan Travel Guide | Bhutan Series Ep 1 | Tanya Khanijow

Here’s presenting the first part of the Bhutan Series Episode in Paro. I went straight to Paro as first part of my road trip in the country. The drive from Phuntsholing took about 4 hours.

The entire budget of my Bhutan trip was close to INR 25k. You can carry cash everywhere in Indian currency in Bhutan as it is accepted. Some things about Paro below:

1. The place where I stayed at in Paro is called Ama’s Village Lodge. You can book the place here -

2. The cost of entry to Taktsang Goempa is INR 500 and a round trip with any driver will cost INR 1000 from your lodge

3. You can contact Mr. Yonten Norbu for driving you around Bhutan if you are visiting. His number is +975 17672515 , my experience with him was extremely nice. He was a perfect gentleman who ensured my safety and also made sure my experience in Bhutan was memorable.

4. If you are visiting Bhutan, I would highly advice you to get a local sim for contacting tour agencies or driver. A local sim will be available for INR 200 at Phuntsholing.

5. Other places that you can visit in Paro are - Paro Dzong and you can get a Hot Stone bath which is very popular in the area

Let me know in comments if you have any more questions.

Solo Trip to Bhutan by Road | Phuntsholing | How to get a permit for Indians? | Bhutan Series Intro

HELLO MY PEOPLE. I'm visiting Bhutan solo by road, and this is the first video in the series. The nearest airport is Bagdogra airport although you can also fly Druk Airways and land directly at Paro (expensive option). From Bagdogra it takes about 5 hours to reach Phuntsholing by road and you can get a taxi from right outside the airport. At Phuntsholing border you will require a permit to visit beyond the 5 km border radius. The visa entry is otherwise free, but the permit is issued for 7 days based on some background checks and upon submission of the following documents -

1) Photocopy of your identity card - Passport/Voter's ID card
2) An immigration form that is provided at any shop near Immigration office
3) Proof of stay of onward journey (You will need confirmed proof of booking for atleast first night in Thimphu/Paro)
4) One passport size photograph
5) For all solo female travellers - Please write a hand written undertaking stating that you are responsible for your own safety and address it to The Immigration Officer, Immigration office, Phuntsholing Bhutan,

For getting a permit at the earliest, please reach the office at 8:30 am with all your documents and stand in a queue. The office opens at 9:00 am. In my case I got the permit within half hour because I arrived early.

For booking the same hotel that I stayed in, you can use the following link -
You'll earn INR 700 on your booking once you book and stay at the hotel.

To use the coupon code, send a mail to sandip.tiwari@zinigo.com
Hope this helps you plan your trip.

The entire budget of my Bhutan trip was close to INR 25-30k. You can carry cash everywhere in Indian currency in Bhutan as it is accepted. Some things about Paro below:

** If you need a driver in Bhutan, you may contact Mr. Yonten. His number is +975 17672515. You can also reach out to Mr. Somraj Chettri: +975 77451302.

Solo in Thimphu Bhutan | Things to Do | Bhutan Travel Guide | Bhutan Series Ep 2 | Tanya Khanijow

Here’s presenting the Second part of the Bhutan Series Episode in Thimphy. I went to Thimphu after Paro, as first part of my road trip in the country. The drive from Paro to Thimphu took about 2 hours. I also did an epic bike tour in the city and enjoyed it thoroughly

The entire budget of my Bhutan trip was close to INR 25-30k. You can carry cash everywhere in Indian currency in Bhutan as it is accepted. Some things about Paro below:

1. The place where I stayed at in Thimphu is called Bhutan Boutique Residency. You can book the place here -

2. The cost of renting a cycle in Bhutan from Wheels for Hills Bicycle outlet is INR 2000 for a day. The shop is located in Olakha and the location is not specified in Google Maps in my experience. So you can contact them through this website - to ask for the correct address. Although a little pricy, I would highly recommed renting a cycle through them since my experience of the same was really nice. The cycle was also of good quality

3. Ms. Yanchen has a tour agency in Bhutan called Bhutan Mountain Bike Adventure -
They organise Bike tours to various parts of the country. Also to some very unknown places that even I am not covering in my vlogs. They will do all documentation for you too. Their services are top notch. As a friend of theirs, I would obviously say good things, but trust me, you won't regret if you book through them, if you want to experience something different.

4. Like I mentioned in my previous video, if you need a driver in Bhutan, you may contact Mr. Yonten. His number is +975 17672515 , my experience with him was extremely nice. He was a perfect gentleman who that my experience in Bhutan was memorable. Also, he speaks in Hindi if you prefer that. When you contact him, please speak in Hindi only.

4. If you are visiting Bhutan, I would highly advice you to get a local sim for contacting tour agencies or driver. A local sim will be available for INR 200 at Phuntsholing.

11:42 - Basic Budget
12:18 - Best time to Visit Bhutan
12:30 - Outro

Bhutan being a neighboring country to India is Not a budget country to travel especially from 2022. It's technically a Visa free country however you need to pay a certain cost and take permit to enter Bhutan.
Bhutan government has imposed 1200/- per person per day for citizen of India/Bangladesh/Maldives as Sustainable Development fee.

This is not it , earlier Indian could take their own vehicles and they didn't had to pay anything for it.
From Sept 2022 , if you are willing to drive your own car from India to Bhutan you need to pay 4700/- per day and an additional 600 Rs one time for it.
Guides are compulsory beyond Thimphu and Paro now. Infact, consider taking a guide right from the beginning of your trip. This cost is again 1500-2000 per day.

Taxis and cabs or evening renting a bike is quite expensive now.

From Pheuntsholing to Thimphu you need to pay 3000-3500 for a taxi.

Making is a lot more expensive than earlier

As per our experience and new guidelines it is advisable to book Bhutan trip from a tour operator. That would cost you a little reasonable.

We have covered everything however in case you still have any queries do leave a comment or you can DM us in Instagram .

Thank you for watching.

See you in other video.

Bye!!!

Is Bhutan Worth It?
Bhutan is an expensive destination. For travelers on a budget, this destination is hard to swallow. “Is Bhutan worth it?” was a question we asked ourselves (and travel forums) multiple times before booking our trip. I am so glad we did. Bhutan is one of the most unique places to visit on the planet. So yes, Bhutan is worth it. Read our posts to learn more.

The winter months, December through February, have clear skies but cold temperatures and has the fewest tourists.

Top Experiences
Tiger’s Nest (Paro Takstang). Gaze at this Buddhist monastery precariously perched on the side of a mountain hundreds of meters off of the ground. It’s worth the uphill hike to get here and this is your chance to see one of Bhutan’s most popular icons.

Paro. Most people spend at least a little time in this city since it is home to Paro International Airport. This is also your home base for the hike up to the Tiger’s Nest.

Thimphu. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan. There is a lot to do here. Visit the Cheri Monastery, see the Takin Preserve, spin prayer wheels at the Memorial Chorten, or gaze up at Buddha Dordenma, the largest sitting Buddha in the world.

Dochula Pass. The Dochula Pass is a high mountain pass (3,150 meters, 10,330 ft) on the road between Thimpu and Punakha. Get a glimpse of snow-covered Himalayas and walk among the 108 chortens that serve as a memorial to Bhutanese soldiers killed in a uprising in 2003.

Punakha. This city was once the capital of Bhutan. Visitors come here to see the amazing Punakha Dzong sitting on the banks of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu Rivers.

Chimi Lhakhang. This is a Buddhist monastery located near Punakha. Lama Drukpa Kunley, the Divine Madman, is one of Bhutan’s favorite saints, famous for his sexual exploits. His temple is now visited by childless couples searching to increase their fertility. Be blessed by a wooden phallus to ward off evil spirits…a travel experience you won’t soon forget.

See a festival. Bhutan is a country that loves a festival. These are among the most colorful events in the world.

Snowman Trek. This is one of the hardest high-altitude treks in the world. Spend 25 days trekking through the Himalayas of Bhutan, crossing nine passes with altitudes over 4500 meters.

Hello everyone, Here’s my next video of my Bhutan series - Thimphu Episode 1. I went to Thimphu after our visa got approved in Phuentsholing. Thimphu is the capital city of Bhutan and I have mentioned the must-see places to cover in Thimphu below. I lost one whole day due to a delay in visa and hence I was not able to cover all the places. In this vlog, I will Thimphu at night and also how to drive to Buddha temple at night and the night view of Thimphu.
The Kingdom’s capital city is home to approximately 100,000 inhabitants including the Royal family. This bustling little city is the main center of commerce, religion, and government in the country. The juxtaposition of ancient tradition and modernity make Thimphu the ideal location for visitors to break away from their tour itinerary to immerse themselves in the contemporary Bhutanese lifestyle. Thimphu is the most modern city in Bhutan with an abundance of restaurants, internet cafes, nightclubs, and shopping centers. However, it still retains its’ cultural identity and values amidst the signs of modernization. Thimphu is one of the few towns in Bhutan that have been equipped with ATM banking facilities and is a good place to stock up on some currency. There are several attractions in Thimphu such as the National Post Office, the Clock Tower Square, the Motithang Takin Preserve, Tango and Chari Monasteries, Buddha Dordenma, National Memorial Chorten, Centenary Farmer's Market, Semtokha Dzong to name a few. These form the most important tourist attractions in the capital city. The culture of Bhutan is fully reflected in Thimphu in respect of religion, customs, national dress code, the monastic practices of the monasteries, music, dance, literature and the media. Tshechu is an important festival where mask dances, popularly known as Chams, are performed in the courtyards of the Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu. It is a four-day festival held every year during autumn (September/October), on dates corresponding to the Bhutanese calendar. One of the most curious features of Thimphu is that it is the only capital city in the world that does not use traffic lights. Instead, a few major intersections have policemen standing in elaborately decorated booths (small pavilions), directing traffic with exaggerated hand motions.
Places to see in Thimphu.
1 - Buddha Dordenma statue
2 - Old Buddha Temple
3 - Bhutan, Thimphu Zoo (Motithang Takin )
4 - Folk Heritage Museum
5 - Buddhist Art Gallery
6 - Memorial Chorten, Thimphu
7 - Bhutan Textile Museum
8 - Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory

In 2008, Bhutan transitioned from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. The first general election to the National Assembly of Bhutan was held in that year. Bhutan is renowned as one of the most peaceful countries of South Asia. The financial centre of this country is Phuntsholing.

We figured out the only way to experience Bhutan’s famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery ALL alone, and it was SO WORTH IT. This awesome experience was organized by Breathe Bhutan, & we highly recommend them!

We hiked straight up over 4,000 feet (The Bumdra Trek) to a campsite in the middle of the stunning Himalayan Mountains of Bhutan. The reason we wanted to do this overnight hike was so that we could wake up at sunrise and be the first to hike down to visit the famous Tiger’s Nest Monastery. We thought that would be the highlight of the trip, but it turned out to be something entirely different :)

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Solo in Paro Bhutan | Tiger's Nest visit | Bhutan Travel Guide | Bhutan Series Ep 4 | Walking miles

Here's presenting the last episode from my Bhutan Travel Series. In this video, i travelled to Paro. There we did the famous Tiger Nest Trek, i have shared my experience of it. It was a pretty tough trek for me. But the view made it up for all. Watch this episode till last to feel that surreal feeling of pristine beauty of bhutan.
#bhutantravel #tigernest #bhutanpermit

We left Thimphu in the morning, we took the bus from thimphu bus stand which cost us only 60 Rs. whereas if you travel thimphu to paro from cab then it might cost you around 1000 Rs. So, make sure you book the bus ticket one day before, because tickets are booked very early.

It cost us around 500 Rs to and fro to reach tiger nest base camp fro paro city, So make sure you negotiate with the driver otherwise you will end up spending way more.

Tiger's Nest is a prominent Himalayan Buddhist sacred site and the temple complex is located in the cliffside of the upper Paro valley in Bhutan. The monastery is located 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) to the north of Paro and hangs on a precarious cliff at 3,120 metres (10,240 ft), about 900 metres (3,000 ft) above the Paro valley, on the right side of the Paro Chu (‘chu’ Bhutanese means ”river or water”. The rock slopes are very steep (almost vertical) and the monastery buildings are built into the rock face. This trek will take whole complete day. It can take upto 4 hrs to climb and 2 hours to come down. Make sure you take some eateries before going on this trek, because you will not get anything at the base or in between the trek. There is only one cafe at the half way mark and that is too much expensive. But please don't loitter the surroundings with Plastics wrapper and all.

The REAL story of Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan!

Tiger's Nest, also known as Paro Taktsang, is a renowned Buddhist monastery and sacred pilgrimage site located in Bhutan, perched dramatically on the edge of a steep cliff at an altitude of about 3,120 meters (10,240 feet). The monastery is situated in the Paro Valley, surrounded by the stunning beauty of the Himalayan mountains.

Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche, the spiritual figure who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan, meditated here in the 8th century, riding on the back of a tigress, hence the name Tiger's Nest. The monastery consists of a series of temples and caves, all interconnected by stone steps and narrow paths carved into the cliffside.

Visiting Tiger's Nest requires a challenging hike that takes around 2-3 hours each way, passing through lush forests and offering breathtaking views of the valley below. Pilgrims and tourists alike undertake this spiritual journey, finding solace and inspiration in the serene surroundings and religious significance of the site.

Tiger's Nest is not only a symbol of Bhutanese cultural and religious heritage but also a testament to the country's commitment to preserving its ancient traditions and natural beauty. It has become one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring landmarks in Bhutan, drawing visitors from all over the world to witness its unique charm and spiritual significance.
