AirPano team visited the very south part of Lapland, the area of Ruka Ski Resort. For the Finnish people accustomed to freezing temperatures, this place is “not truly Lapland”. But as for any other tourist who is used for a shiny white winter, the local winter is amazing and hardly seems to differ from more severe northern regions. We aimed to capture beautiful winter landscapes and the weather was also favourable: both expeditions took place at the temperature of 20ºC below zero.

Kizhi. The wooden wonder of Russia. Virtual travel. Aerial 360 video in 12K
In the northern part of Lake Onega, there is an island known all over the world: it is named Kizhi. A nature reserve protecting rare animal and plant species was created here. But definitely, the major landmark of the island is its architectural complex, Kizhi State Open-Air Museum of History, Architecture and Ethnography. Each season has its unique features and the mood is defined by a particular colour scheme. The winter colours are the most rigorous, but even white sparkles in a variety of shades ranging from blue to pink. The bright blue sky and golden rays of the sun give a magnificent contrast to the kingdom of snow. A perfect example is a winter in Lapland. This is a genuine fairy tale: trees are covered with snow caps, while on hills, the snow fully covers both tree trunks and branches. Under the weight of snow, they bend and create cones, arches and other bizarre shapes that look like silent guards of the coldest part of the year. Situated on the border of Switzerland and Italy, the Matterhorn is like a pyramid in the center of Europe, with four triangular faces meeting at its summit. Being 4478 meters high the Matterhorn is only the fifth highest mountain among the Alps. Nevertheless, it is one of the most tough and tricky peaks to climb in the world.

One of the most favorable places to observe the starry skies is Africa. The famous Sahara Desert, in particular. There are no inhabited places for hundreds of miles. That means absence of lights and smoke fog, which makes the air crystal clear. As a pleasant addition you can also adore the great dunes.

The waters of Wild Taiga create excellent conditions for fishing trips in the Arctic Lakeland area. Finland is the land of a thousand lakes, but did you know that Kuhmo is a town of hundred rapids? There are over 100 rapids suitable for fishing in Kuhmo – some are near the town centre and the other ones you will in the middle of wilderness. Fly fishing season starts in April when the ground is still covered with snow. You can also book a guided fishing trip to explore the rivers and lakes. Another great desination for fishing in the Wild Taiga area is Hossa in Suomussalmi.
