1. The Singapore Botanic Gardens is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Singapore. The gardens are home to a variety of plant life, as well as a few animals including the endangered Malayan tapir.

The gardens are also home to the National Orchid Garden, which is the largest orchid garden in the world. Admission to the Botanic Gardens is free, making it a great activity for those on a budget.

2. National Museum of Singapore
With its history going back to 1849 when it started as the Raffles Library and Museum, the National Museum of Singapore is the nation’s oldest museum and one of the city’s major landmarks.

The museum is home to a variety of exhibits, including a section on the history of Singapore, as well as galleries on art, Southeast Asia, and natural history. If you have time to visit only one place to learn about the history and culture of Singapore, this is probably it.

3. Gardens by the bay
Trust us on this one - Gardens by the Bay is the only one of its kind. Located by the Marina Bay waterfront, Gardens by the Bay is a surreal coming together of horticulture, technology and architecture and is completely free for anyone to visit.

While access to the conservatories and walkways are ticketed, you can spend your day walking among giant super-trees, seeing stunning floral gardens and admiring one of the most fascinating pieces of architecture anywhere in the world without spending a dollar.

4. Mount Faber
While the hill isn't the tallest in Singapore, Mount Faber's top offers exceptional views of Singapore's increasingly dense central business district and is the perfect hiking spot in Singapore. You can hike to its top via Marang Trail or the Southern Ridges Park Connector. Both paths will take you through secondary rainforests that cover its slopes.

5. MacRitchie Treetop Walk
Set among the rainforests of MacRitchie Nature Reserve, the Treetop Walk is a highlight of many a hiking trails that go through these forests.

The walkway is a free-standing suspension bridge that connects the two highest points in MacRitchie and offers a bird's eye view of the plants and animals that live in the forest canopy.

6. Live music at Esplanade
The Esplanade is one of the busiest art centers in the world. Enjoy a cultural evening, admiring performances from various local bands, traditional dance forms and theatre shows. The Esplanade comprises a theatre, a concert hall, and an outdoor performance zone, which can be accessed for free.

7. Marina Bay Sands Lightshow

Yes, we know, the Marina Bay Sands resort is expensive if you choose to dine or stay there. But what's absolutely free is Spectra - the light shows that take place every day from 8 PM and goes on till 9 PM, or 11 PM on weekends.

Get a spot on the Event Plaza in the Promenade and watch the three towers throw multicoloured light beams into the Singapore night. Watch the 15-minute show unfold in a four-part story, and a beautiful symphony of dancing fountain jets, colourful visual projections and lasers – all led by an orchestral soundtrack.

8. Buddha Tooth Relic Temple
A temple nested in the Chinatown district, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is one of the most sacred places in Singapore and is a popular tourist destination.

The Temple draws Buddhist devotees from across the world as it houses an alleged tooth of the founder of Buddhism, Siddharta Gautama. This place of worship can be visited for free by locals and tourists.

9. Changi Point Broadwalk
The Changi Point is one of the most popular beaches in Singapore along its east coast. With a boardwalk of 2.2 kilometers along the coast, there are plenty of free things to do along the Changi Boardwalk.

The Boardwalk is divided into 6 sections, each one offering an outstanding view for its visitors.

10. Bukit Timah Mountain Bike Trail
Think mountain biking in Singapore and the name Bukit Timah immediately springs to mind. It is one of the most popular trails for mountain biking in Singapore.

20 Free Things to Do and Places to Visit in Singapore

Are you traveling to Singapore soon? Looking to save some money while exploring the country? If yes, then you should spend more time on the free attractions in Singapore.

????️ Check out my favorite travel essentials here:

➡️ Singapore Botanic Gardens

Touted at the UNESCO Heritage Site, Singapore Botanic Gardens is the country's only tropical garden where you can enter free of cost. These gardens are 150 years old and are home to a diverse range of Floral and fauna.

➡️ Free Concerts at Esplanade

During one of my solo exploration days in Singapore, I accidentally came across a free live show at Esplanade which was quite a fun way to pass the time.

➡️ Clarke Quay

In the evenings, one of the top free places to visit in Singapore is Clarke Quay. Here, you will find a lot of pubs and restaurants where you can eat and party.

➡️ Sentosa Island

Beaches are free to explore and you can visit many free attractions such as Siloso Fort and all here as well.

➡️ Fort Canning Park and Tunnel

Hike at this park in the evening and discover old tunnels, rare plants, and more. You can also take a photo at the iconic Fort Canning Tunnel but be prepared to wait in line first.

➡️ Henderson Waves Bridge

This is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore that was introduced in 2008. The unique thing about this bridge is its undulating shape of a wave that curves and twists the entire 274-m of the bridge length.

➡️ Gardens By the Bay Gardens

Rejuvenate yourself by taking a walk through Singapore's dramatic Gardens By The Bay. The gardens open at 5 AM and close at 2 AM and entry is free for everything except the Observatory Walkway and the indoor attractions here.

➡️ Visit the Underground Malls

One of the best free places to visit in Singapore, especially during the summers, is the Underground Malls where the A.C. is cranked up.

➡️ Explore the Walking Streets of Singapore

Whether it is Bugis Shopping Street, Orchard Shopping Street, or Chinatown Street, you have something to explore at each of these walking streets in Singapore.

➡️ Spend Time on the East Coast Park

If you love beaches, then do check out the East Coast Park and Pier where you can enjoy a beautiful sunrise in the morning. Entry to this beach park is free and one can indulge in many activities here such as jogging, sand castling, picnicking, and more.

➡️ Merlion Statue

Singapore's Merlion statue which is half-lion and half-fish is the official mascot of the country. You can choose to make a game of hunting down all the 7 Merlion statues or just head to the Merlion Park opposite Marina Bay Sands.

➡️ Buddha Tooth Relic Temple

A Chinese Buddha Temple, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown is said to house the left canine tooth of Lord Buddha.

➡️ Check Out Colorful Houses and Street Arts

One of the best things about Singapore is that you will find a lot of colorful houses and places where street art is being displayed.

So, whether you are a photographer or an Instagrammer, you can head to these free spots and make the most of them. Chinatown, Peranakan Street, Haji Lane, Arab Street, Little India, etc. are a few places that you cannot miss.

➡️ Visit Japanese Cemetery Park

Japanese Cemetery Park is the largest Japanese Cemetery in SouthEast Asia and serves as the burial ground of the Japanese residents of Singapore.

➡️ Enjoy a Free Activity with SingapoRewards

Singapore Tourism Board has recently launched the SingapoRewards program that allows short-term visitors to enjoy a free hidden-gem activity in Singapore.

➡️ Walk through the Helix Bridge

This is a pedestrian-only bridge that links Marina Centre with Marina South in the Bay area and was opened in 2010.

➡️ Catch the Free Light and Water Show at Marina Bay

Spectra is a 15-minute light and water show that takes place every night at the Event Plaza. It occurs at 8 PM and 9 PM throughout the week and at 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays as well. You will see dancing fountain jets, advanced lasers, mist, and lava effects, and so much more.

➡️ Explore the Jewel Mall

Jewel Mall inside Changi Airport is another free attraction in Singapore that you simply cannot miss.

This five-story complex features a tiered garden, a 130-room hotel, a multi-screen IMAX theatre, over 280 retail and food outlets, and more. It is also home to the HSBC Rain Vortex which is the world's tallest indoor waterfall.

➡️ Explore Bedok Square

This is a shopping center where you can find many street shops, flea markets, and a shopping mall to explore. From snacks to accessories, you can find all kinds of things to buy here or explore around for a couple of hours.

➡️ Watch Garden Rhapsody

Did you know you can catch the Light and Sound Show at Supertree Grove every night? Yes, that's correct! And it's free of cost! The show is conducted twice in the evening: at 7.45 and 8.45 PM!

What to do in ONLY 1 DAY in SINGAPORE? [Travel Guide] [ 4K ] / Highlights / Best Things to do / 24h

For more details, please read the description below:
(This video was not sponsored by any of the places shown. The places shown are my personal recommendations)

Singapore - An Introduction to Asia
Singapore, one of the most important world cities, is the best choice for your first destination in Asia. The rich ethnic mixture – Chinese, Malays, Indians, Eurasians and others – allows you to get an insight in some of the largest cultures of Asia. Due to Singapore’s excellent organization, it is nowadays the cleanest and safest country in Asia. Thanks to the strict regulations on hygiene, you can pretty much try all kinds of Asian cuisines without having to worry about food poisoning. It is the high standards in hygiene and the rich mixture of cultures that made Singapore to a foodie capital in Asia. Embracing the ethnic and religious diversity, it is food that unites all people of Singapore.
Having only 1 day of traveling, organizing your itinery matters a lot! In this video, I provide you a travel guide that maximizes the gain you can get out of visiting Singapore for only 1 day.
1. Start your visit at Chinatown and stay there from around 10am to 1pm. Spend some time at the festive market at Pagoda Street, dine at the foodie avenue (Smith Street) and visit the religious sites.
2. Head to Kampung Glam and spend roughly 2 hours 2 to 4pm. It is very much of an Islamic neighborhood that showcases Malay and Indian Muslim culture. Visit the Sultan Mosque, the carpet shops, Turkish and middle eastern restaurants and haji lane. The latter provides an interesting mixture of cafes, a perfect place to go out to have a beer.
3. Little India gives you a taste of how life back in the motherland on the subcontinent may look like. Hosting plenty of clothing and jewelry shops, Indian restaurants, hindu temples, mosques, churches and wet markets, you definitely gonna have enough impressions.
4. Marina Bay is nowadays the most famous and visited area of Singapore. I recommend to visit it last, so that you can attend the light shows that only take place after sunset. Visit the famous Marina Bay Sands mall and hotel, Bay Front, Gardens by the Bay and the Marina Bay Skypark.

Budget:
Singapore is often seen as a very expensive city. However, it is possible to travel on budget, because public transport is cheap. Riding the MRT is quite cheap (less than 2 SGD) and thus highly encouraged. Foodwise, Singapore is generally cheap, but of course dining can also be very expensive. Generally, foodcourts offer cheap dishes, a meal can cost 3-10 SGD including water or fruit juice. In ordinary restaurants you may spend about 20 SGD. I usually recommend people to share the food to enjoy more variety, its the culture here in Southeast Asia! The attractions I have presented are all free, Buddha temple, mosque, hindu temples no entrance fees, only the Sri Mammariaman temple imposes a photo ticket but admission is free. A visit to Gardens by the Bay is free! Going up to the OCBC skywalk bridge at the Gardens by the Bay costs 8 SGD, the queue gets usually very long near twilight. Queueing time can be about 30-40minutes. The lasershow at Bayfront is free too! So many great things in Singapore are actually free as you can see! A visit to the Marina Bay Skypark costs 23 SGD, unlimited time to stay (until closure at 11pm). The skypark is cheaper than the Flyer (Ferrywheel).
