UNSEEN Limbu Ethnic FOOD, Pork Feast & Tongba in Kathmandu, NEPAL | Secret Foods of NEPAL
In our quest to taste the main dishes of different ethnic groups in Nepal, we hunted for Limbu food in Kathmandu.
There are more than 120 ethnic groups in Nepal. Each of these ethnic groups have their own native cuisine. After tasting Tharu food, we absolutely wanted to try the rare foods of the Limbus.
But who are the Limbus?
The Limbus are an ethnic group native to the Himalayan and hilly parts of Eastern Nepal. They were known as silk traders.
We also learnt that alcohol, especially Tongba, is religiously important in the Limbu culture.
So, what did we eat and drink?
- Tongba, a traditional fermented millet alcoholic drink of the Limbus,
- Sargyemba / Sargemba, pork blood sausage mixed with spices, rice and yangben (wild edible lichen),
- Limbu Khana Set, consisting of Daal, Bhat, Tarkari, Pork curry and Kinema,
- Pork sekuwa, also known as Nepali Pork BBQ, Bungurko Sekuwa.
All in all, it was a very nice ethnic food experience. I truly loved the Tongba and Sargemba. The Limbu Khana set was also very nice. The Pork sekuwa was okay but had too much fat for me.

Sepe is the fishing style or system of nyishi people which is called SEPE(TRAP) in nyishi language. this made of pure bamboo, roots and along with trees, it's eco- friendly no harmful for environmental.
Through this regime nyishi people avoiding such harmful act of nature like boom blast, spear fishing etc. And there are also association union for restriction and protect the nature.
whereas all the the member of vilage combined to work togather. Especially NYISHI TRIBE practiced this kind of sepe (trap).
There are lot of policy and restriction when making progress of sepe. They have to leave their home while working on for some days..

This video was filmed in a very small village in Romania, where time seems to have stopped . We managed to discover the village and the villagers who are friendly people always greeting us from their gardens. A road starts in the village that doesn't seem to lead anywhere. There's not a lot of visibility, so you'd say there's nothing further, that it's just a road that leads nowhere. But if you advance on the narrow and winding road, you begin to easily-easily see the outline of the village. It's a quiet place, so quiet that the only thing you hear are your steps as you move forward on the road and the birds. It's a pretty old village, some young people have gone to the nearest cities, others have gone abroad to make money, and plan to return to the country, to restore up the old houses in the village. But until then, village life remains unchanged, authentic and exceedingly beautiful.
