Travel to Serbia – See It With New Eyes

THE SECRET DESTINATION THAT IS SERBIA

Nestled and land-locked between Romania, Croatia and Bulgaria, it’s as though these surrounding countries have outshone the jewels of this land, keeping Serbia hidden from the rest of the world.
As travelling filmmakers we’re always on the lookout for undiscovered destinations and travel stories which are becoming increasingly rare and difficult to find, so our recent trip to Serbia sparked great excitement as it was just the type of place we had been looking for – Truly unique, authentic and incredibly beautiful! We know it’s not the top destination on your list, but we’re going to paint you a picture of what we discovered, through our videography, photography and words, that will undoubtedly change your mind and rearrange that list of yours.

If you’re wondering if Serbia is for you, here’s the type of person who would absolutely love it:

#1 – FOR THOSE WHO LOVE WILD PLACES
If for no other reason, come to Serbia for its wild and untouched nature. The landscapes look like watercolour paintings, with pastel shades and hues touching everything the eye can see, from the ground beneath your feet to the very tops of the sky. You can’t help but be immersed in the mystical beauty of it all.

#2 – FOR THOSE WHO ARE FOODIES
Serbia is the best kept foodie secret, where cultures collide! Eating in Serbia is equivalent to a culinary feast in Turkey, Hungary and the Mediterranean all wrapped into one. With every dish being hearty, creamy and fatty, you’ll not only have a piece of Serbia close to your heart by the end of it, but a great portion on your hips too. But the good news is that it’s 110% worth it and we can guarantee that your taste-buds will love it so much, that they’ll long for these unique flavours for years to come.

#3 – FOR THOSE WHO LOVE TO PARTY
Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, which boasts some of Europe’s most exuberant nightlife, reflects its golden city lights into the Danube river which hugs its shores - This city has an energy and vibrancy that’s contagious and addictive! During the day we would explore its Bohemian neighbourhoods, covered in colourful wild flowers and dotted with street cafes and at night, every night, we would party! Many say Belgrade is the next Ibiza, with super clubs called “splavs”, on barges that float alongside the river’s edge, filled with gorgeous, young people having the time of their lives on hot summer nights!

#4 – FOR THOSE WHO ARE HISTORIANS AND CULTURALISTS AT HEART
Belgrade’s beauty stems from it’s astounding architecture and gritty look and feel, adding a very special charm to the city, as it displays evidence of its rich history from generations before us. Pristine museums, castles and churches are any historians dream, telling tales of many wars and cultural shifts. But if you’re not a fan of buildings, every Serbian is like a little history book. They are so passionate about their country that if you show interest and give them half the chance, they’ll tell you all about their country’s entire story, inviting you into their world for an insiders’ look at their cultures and traditions.

Serbia’s turbulent past has caused the tourism industry to bypass it, indirectly creating a country so raw and authentic that it inspired us beyond words, leaving us feeling in awe of all we had encountered during our time here. But unfortunately, like all things in life, this will not last forever and we urge you to see it with your own eyes, before the tour groups get their hands on it. So do yourself a favour and go somewhere unexpected on your next trip, like Serbia – You’ll be surprised by what you find!

Serbia, a country in the west-central Balkans.
The capital of Serbia is Belgrade (Beograd), a multicultural city at the confluence of the Danube and also Sava rivers; Stari Grad, Belgrade's old town, is dominated by an ancient citadel called the Kalemegdan and also includes well-preserved examples of medieval design as well as a few of eastern Europe's most renowned restaurants. Serbia's second city, Novi Sad, exists upstream on the Danube; a social and also educational center, it resembles the college communities of neighboring Hungary in lots of areas.
Beginning in the 1920s, Serbia was an essential part of Yugoslavia (implying Land of the South Slavs) that included the modern countries of Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, as well as Montenegro. Long regulation in turn by the Footrest Realm and Austria-Hungary, these part nations incorporated in 1918 to develop an independent federation referred to as the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. In 1929 that federation was officially constituted as Yugoslavia. Serbia was the top part of this multiethnic union. However, after The Second World War, the nonaligned communist federal government of Josip Broz Tito accorded some autonomy procedure to the component republics and attempted to stabilize contending interests by dividing nationwide administrative responsibilities (e.g., for intelligence and also protection) along ethnic lines.
The plants of Serbia develop a change between central European and Mediterranean kinds. Before Austrian farming emigration started in the 18th century, the arid Vojvodina plains were a grassland steppe. Nevertheless, forests at one time controlled the region. Only about 5 percent of the location is currently covered by trees, mainly in the more significant parts of the Fruška Gora and wetlands adjacent to the Danube and Sava.

The regional name Šumadija suggests a forested area, however extensive areas that were formerly wooded long have been removed and put to cultivation. Trees cover two-fifths or even more of the territory in mountainous areas, depending on altitude and dirt density.

Serbia has a wide variety of wild animals. Among larger animals, deer and also bear abound in forested locations. Feral pigs (Sus scrofa) are a distinctive feature of beech forests in the hills.

Belgrade Serbia - Europe's Best Kept Secret

Belgrade Serbia was once the capital of Yugoslavia but now it's the party capital of Europe. Belgrade is also one of the most affordable capital cities in all of Europe! Serbia has had quite a turbulent past but now has emerged with a vibrant cafe culture, unique architecture, and a lively nightlife. Serbian food is so delicious too. Ana's dad grew up in Serbia and moved to America when he was 25. It was amazing meeting up with her family to get the authentic Serbian experience. We visited Kalemegdan, Belgrade Fortress, Ada Ciganlija, Knez Mihailova. This city is truly one of a kind

The Danube in Serbia: 588 Impressions

| | |

The Danube is the only of large European rivers that flows from west to east. Its source is still subject of scientific debate,
while its mouth widens year-in-year-out. Throughout its history, the river had a major role as a link and as a border, as the lifeblood of commerce...

That is why the journey along the Danube is like a visit to a museum of European history, filled with “exhibits” of natural rarities, deep layers of cultural heritage, colourful lifestyles, events, tourist offers and attractions.

SURPRISED by SERBIA! ???????? - First time in BELGRADE (Europe's HIDDEN GEM)

In this week's travel vlog we visit the capital of Serbia, Belgrade, for the first time. We were completely surprised by Serbia and think it's a definitely one of Europe's hidden gems.

We start off our day in Belgrade at Republic Square where we drink a glass of hot rakija. After strolling down Knez Mihailova Street we eat a slice of Pizza topped with salad dressing from the popular shop called Bucko Pizza. We then make a stop at St. Michael's Cathedral and visit the Belgrade Fortress where we take in the beautiful view of the Danube river. At Beograd Café we try some traditional Serbian coffee and a local alcohol called Pelinkovac. Since there are popcorn stands everywhere on the streets, we grab a box of popcorn, followed by some Serbian cookies from the farmers market. After a couple cocktails at Kultura Bar we finally end the day with dinner at a restaurant called Cevaplija where we eat delicious Serbian foods such as Gibanica and grilled meat with dips.
