Solo On The World's Longest Train Journey ????????

????????The Trans-Siberian train, who hasn't dreamt of taking it across this leviathan of a country? Well not me to be honest but somehow I decided to override my dread of endless train rides to show you what nobody has shown you before. The real Trans-Siberian. This isn't a package tour, nothing is booked in advance. It's just me on my own hopping from town to town on whichever train is leaving next, meeting locals, drinking vodka, avoiding snorers, exploring Russia. Join me!

5 Days across Russia on the World's Longest Train ???????? (it ruined us!)

The Trans-Siberian train, the longest train journey in the world across the largest country on Earth.
This train runs from Moscow in European Russia, to Vladivostok in the far east and back, covering over 9000km's and taking over a week. Most people take the train eastwards towards Siberia.
However, we decided to hop on this train in Vladivostok, and ride it in reverse, from the far east of Russia, across Siberia, and towards Europe. What waited us, was not what we were hoping for, this is the reality of travelling the real Trans-Siberian Express and it ruined us...
Join us as we head west from Vladivostok on the trans Siberian railway, (passing through the Russian cities of Khabarovsk, Chita, Ulan Ude, Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk, as well as the beautiful Lake Baikal) and let us show you what living on Russia's most famous railway really looks like.

5 Days across Russia on the World's Longest Train ???????? (it ruined us!)

The BAM: Russia's Unknown Trans-Siberian Train????????

???????? We have all heard of the Trans-Siberian, Russia's mega train journey that crosses Siberia as it skirts the Chinese border. But few have heard of the even more impressive B.A.M ( Baikal Amur Mainline ) which passes through virgin forest in the middle of Siberia. Built in the 1970s by young communists, the BAM is the greatest construction project of the 20th Century. And yet it is unknown in the West.

I decided to go and ride this unknown journey across northern Siberia and speak to the people who came to build it. Join me as we ride 'The Bam'!

Okay, now onto the description of the video... Riding on the Trans-Siberian Train has been a bucket list adventure for me for as long as I can remember (8 years?). The train starts in Moscow and then travels 10,000 kilometers Eastbound across Siberia until it ends in Vladivostok. I was lucky enough to catch Trans-Siberian train for a 30-hour leg – from Irkutsk to Novosibirsk – and it was one of the wildest travel experiences of my life. Even in the middle of winter, where temperatures were around -30C, I couldn’t believe how scenic the views were out the window. It felt like a dream!

On the Trans-Siberian train, I met two incredible characters – Gregory (the train conductor) and Sacha (the drunk passenger) who I shared the entire experience with. I will never forget this train ride. It was the journey of a lifetime, and I can’t wait to (hopefully) finish the rest of the adventure someday soon. Siberia is truly a remarkable place. Thank you for watching.

Walking and sketching on the world's deepest lake!
BOOK AVAILABLE NOW:

I cautiously step out onto the frozen surface of Lake Baikal (1.3m thick) which now and then reveals the chillingly dark abyss beneath.

Swirly, marbled ice cracks shoot downwards like vertical walls, disappearing into nothingness. It feels exhilarating and terrifying to be walking on this.

Later in the day, the lake becomes a hive of activity with skaters, dog sleds, hovercrafts, quad bikes, a bouncy castle, speedo-clad scuba divers and a man riding a horse!

NO LONGER POSSIBLE! Longest train journey in the world and how it has changed since 2019.

While self-isolating due to a Covid-19 scare, I checked out the website for inspiration. I decided to condense my 16-part series on Youtube, lasting 3 hours, into a 15 minute highlight video. Unfortunately the video exceeded the 500MB free allowance. As most subscribers to Planes, Trains, Everything have joined after the 2019 series of videos were uploaded, I have decided to show the 15-minute version and also discuss, at the end, why this journey can't be done until the pandemic is over, and what changes will take place.

Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here:

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment. We discovered the world of “travel hacking” & became obsessed. So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world. Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went home to “normal life.” We started this travel vlog to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with this lifestyle and did everything we could to keep going. 4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time. Van life was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. ????????????

Trans-Siberian Railway - The longest train journey on the earth is a colossal adventure.

Route: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Lake Baikhal, Ulanbaatar-Ulan Ude, Chita, Khabarovsk and Vladivastok)

The journey will astonish you beyond comparison this is the longest extraordinary train ride in the world, takes you through a single train line, which crosses the length of Russia. On your journey you will come across some of the most astonishing sceneries, and the landscape of Russian Far East.

The Trans-Siberian Railway first started in 1916, and it remains operating to this day, was the pet project of Sergei Witte, an influential minister in the Russian government. Witte believed that political power came from economic power, and saw Siberia as an underexploited region of the Russian Empire. It starts at Moscow, and ends at a place called Vladivostok.

Embark on this, once-in-a-lifetime train journey, which is the longest uninterrupted train route – crossing 7 time zones and a multitude of different terrain ranging from forests to mountains to deserts to the Steppe. The Railway line covering almost 9,289 kilometres excluding Mongolia from the heart of Moscow to Vladivostok on the wild mountain slopes of the Pacific Coast of Asia, from the Mongolian Steppe to Lake Baikal’s remote shores to the snow-capped Ural Mountains, trace the history of tsars, exiles, and Mongols in the comfort of Russian ‘firmeny’ train - called Rossiya (Premium) Trans-Siberian Express.

Encounter the remote cultures and the unique architecture of Siberia’s wooden cottages, the remote Olkhon island which the Buryat people consider one of the five poles of Shamanic energy, and Moscow’s onion domes.

Experience Russia and Mongolia in the safest, most comfortable and most fascinating way.

A journey for those who like to take their travels slowly, you could be in for this once-in-a-lifetime experience here.
