FAGATOGO MARKET | FAGATOGO FISH MARKET | Shopping Local, Fresh, and Sustainable in American Samoa

Wondering where to go for fresh and local food while in AMERICAN SAMOA?

This week we're taking you with us to check out the FAGATOGO MARKET.

We ended up going three times while making this video, to show you the experiences of going on different days and at different times.

Saturday morning is actually rather quiet, which surprised us. The first Friday of every month is usually very busy, with food venders and entertainment, but ever since the COVID-19 restrictions, it's been a quieter affair, but still with some delicious food venders. It turns out that Friday mornings are the time to come if you're looking for fresh produce and sea food, with the Fagatogo Fish Market open only on Friday mornings.

Let us know if you've been to the MARKET and what your experience was like.

And as always, THANK-YOU so much for being here, watching our videos and supporting our adventures.

MAP OF AMERICAN SAMOA

salutations my friends. this is a map of American Samoa. American Samoa, located within the geographical region of Oceania, is one of only two possessions of the United States in the Southern Hemisphere, the other being Jarvis Island. Its total land area is 76.1 square miles—slightly larger than Washington, D.C.—consisting of five rugged, volcanic islands and two coral atolls.

Cockscomb Point on Pola Island is seen jutting into the ocean.
The five volcanic islands are Tutuila, Aunuʻu, Ofu, Olosega, and Taʻū. The coral atolls are Swains and Rose Atoll. Of the seven islands, Rose Atoll is the only uninhabited one; it is a Marine National Monument. American Samoa is the southernmost reach of the United States at fourteen degrees below the equator.

A view of American Samoa's Ofu Beach on Ofu Island in the Manuʻa Islands is nice too. excuse me. please comment about american samoa. continuing.
Due to its positioning in the South Pacific Ocean, it is frequently hit by tropical cyclones between November and April. Rose Atoll is the easternmost point of the territory. American Samoa's Rose Atoll is the southernmost point of the United States. American Samoa is home to the National Park of American Samoa.

The highest mountains are: Lata Mountain , 3,170 ft ; Matafao Peak, 2,141 ft; Piumafua, 2,095 ft; and Tumutumu , 1,621 ft . Mount Pioa, nicknamed the Rainmaker, is 1,718 ft.  American Samoa is also home to some of the world's highest sea cliffs at 3,000 ft.
The Vailuluʻu seamount, an active submerged volcano, lies 28 miles east of Taʻū in American Samoa. It was discovered in 1975 and has since been studied by an international team of scientists, contributing towards understanding of the Earth's fundamental processes. Growing inside the summit crater of Vailuluʻu is an active underwater volcanic cone, named after Samoa's goddess of war, Nafanua.

American Samoa lies within two terrestrial ecoregions: Samoan tropical moist forests and Western Polynesian tropical moist forests. thats all for now. thanks for listening. please subscribe for the best maps and for the love of American Samoa. goodbye. #mapschool #maps #mapas #mapsolo #americansamoa #tutuila

Banded Snake Eel in American Samoa

Nope, its not a sea snake. It's a Banded Snake Eel, AKA Harlequin eel (Myrichthys colubrinus) . This is a small young eel, just over a foot long, in shallow lagoon waters foraging for crustaceans, fish eggs and very small fish. The Banded Snake Eel mimics banded sea snakes and can be found in the open during the day.

Ofu Beach & Lagoon - Hiking American Samoa part 5

Ofu Beach & Lagoon is part of the National Park of American Samoa. We had the entire beach and lagoon all to ourselves during most of our visit to this spectacular but hard-to-reach place. Both are showcased along with fruit bats, birds, tropical fish, turtles, rays, and sharks. I consider this film to be a personal masterpiece as I am sharing one of my favorite places in the entire world. Part 5 of 6 of our video series Hiking American Samoa. Filmed from June 20-29, 2023 during our 2nd trip to American Samoa and 7th trip to the South Pacific.

Shipwreck in American Samoa Gone!

A long line fishing vessel that washed ashore in the village of Amouli decades ago has been polluting the bay and destroying the coral reef ever since. Finally, the wreck, or what was left of it, was removed from the water this week by a couple of excavators working on the road.
