Sea level rise is swallowing Puerto Rico's beaches

This Miami Beach Road Was Raised 2 FEET to Fight Sea Level Rise!

In this video, I show you what the city and county have been doing to combat climate change and sea level rise in Miami Beach. From Indian Creek Drive to the Sunset Harbour neighborhood in South Beach, elevating roads has been a common theme as one method. Other things like new pump stations and generators were also factored in to help. It's part of a multi-million dollar, long-term initiative to keep Miami Beach Rising Above, as the slogan goes.

Venice drowns, 2019: record floods, rising sea levels, high tides and climate change - stock footage

Video footage, largely unedited, from historic floods in Venice. Piazza San Marco (St Mark's Square) is seen during the record acqua alta event that peaked 187cm at 22:50 on the night of 12 November, 2019.

This 4K video archive of library stock shots / film footage is copyright and may not be used unless negotiated directly. Details:

Looped music is ©

Footpaths, canals and buildings were submerged and washed away, damaging the historic centre's UNESCO cultural heritage sites, including its beautiful cathedral basilica.

Passerelle (walkways installed for high water acqua alta events) were washed away, becoming hazards themselves. The siren is the Venetian “Code Red” flood warning for tides exceeding 140cm (4 alert tones). These was Venezia's second worst incident with rising sea levels after the devastating impact of record 194cm tides in 1966.

It is also the last major floods before the MOSE project (see 18:20) began operating in autumn 2020, raising enormous yellow sea wall barriers to hold back rising tides and flooding associated with Bora and Sirocco winds in the gulf. Venice is still threatened by subsidence of the vulnerable city's foundations and long-term global warming sea level rise.

There is also footage of the famous Acqua Alta Bookshop (12:02) and a Fridays for Future climate-strike protest the morning after the natural disaster struck (8:58).
More (and longer) shots available on request.

Planning for Rising Seas | Your South Florida

From coastal communities to the everglades, sea level rise will change the landscape of South Florida – and the latest projections show this threat is coming faster than previously thought.
