Scotland, located in the north of the United Kingdom, is a fascinating and atmospheric land. A land of Celtic myths and legends with green hills, barren highlands, mysterious lakes and mighty castles.In the centre of the capital the impressive Edinburgh Castle crowns the hard basalt cone of an extinct volcano, the historic heart of the nation. The beauty of the dense forests and hills of the Trossachs was made famous by author, Sir Walter Scott, in the nineteenth century. It is the most scenic region in central Scotland and possesses grandiose, wild and romantic scenery. The remote Loch Katrine brings to mind Sir Walter Scott’s poem, The Lady Of The Lake. On the Firth Of Lorne is Kilmartin Glen one of the most important prehistoric regions in Scotland. Here, standing-stone, three metre high monoliths are scattered across meadows with grazing sheep. The Bronze Age megalithic grave mounds and stone circles can be seen from Duchraigaig Cairn. Across the north runs the Great Glen with Loch Linnhe, Lochy and Ness marking its course which passes through some amazing landscapes. In Fort William Train Station, the Jacobite is awaiting its passengers. The huge black monster is an impressive sight. Slowly, the nostalgic train moves off and begins its journey on one of the most beautiful railway routes in the world. The history of Glenfarclas is as colourful as the whisky of the same name. It is the story of the Grant Family and their distillery. ‘Scottish Gold’ must be stored for at least three years until the traditional taste of single malt whisky is produced but it can often be left to mature for between twelve and fifty years. Scotland is like a land from an ancient and historic time whose real treasure is its natural, rugged scenery!

9. Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park
Situated approximately 60 miles or 96 kilometers to the west of Edinburgh, Loch Lomond & the Trassachs National Park is the oldest national park in Scotland. It’s one of the most popular places to visit thanks to its proximity to urban areas as well as a wide variety of activities.

8. Glencoe Valley
Glencoe Valley is located in the Scottish Highlands in western Scotland. The area is known for its impressive mountain scenery, beautiful waterfalls, and trails that climb steep peaks, such as the Pap of Glencoe.
7. Glen Nevis
Located right outside the town Fort William, Glen Nevis is one of the most spectacular and beautiful glens in the Highlands. Above all, it’s home to Britain’s highest mountain: Ben Nevis, which is an impressive day hike.
6. Glenfinnan Viaduct
Only a stone's throw away from Glen Nevis and Fort William, the Glenfinnan Viaduct is a must-visit in Scotland! Made famous in the Harry Potter films, this 21-arched viaduct is set amongst some of Scotland’s finest scenery!

5. Inverness
Inverness is the northernmost city in the United Kingdom and is regarded as the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands. Similar to Edinburgh, the city has a fantastic pub scene with great live music in the evenings.

4. Loch Ness
Located only a short drive from Inverness, Loch Ness is one of the most famous places in all of Scotland. The legend of the monster called Nessie goes back to ancient times.
3. Eilean Donan Castle
The Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most photographed castles in the world for a good reason. It’s perfectly situated on a small island with a charming curved bridge connecting it to the mainland.
2. Old Man of Storr (Isle of Skye)
Skye is the second largest island in Scotland and in our opinion, it has the most picturesque views you’ll encounter on your trip. The Old Man of Storr is the most iconic sight on the island and attracts many hikers and tourists alike.

Quiraing is located on the Northern end of the Isle of Skye and boasts some of the best natural views in all of Scotland. The jagged landscape was caused by a landslip, which exposed strange rock formations underneath a large cliff.

In the centre of the old town, Edinburgh Castle sits atop the basalt cone of a long-extinct volcano. It is the most visited castle in Scotland and still guarded by soldiers but it is now mainly tourists who storm the defiant rock. Northumbrian king, Edwin, commanded the castle to be built in the seventh century A.D., the castle on the hill, Edinburgh.The Royal Mile leads from the mighty fortress, downwards, a sloping road from which narrow streets branch off. Just off the upper Royal Mile is the church and cemetery of Greyfriars with its many historical and atmospheric tombs. Its cemetery became well known due to two Irishmen who exhumed newly-buried corpses in 1827 in order to sell them to the local anatomical institute. The Royal Mile eventually narrows and ends at the Palace Of Holyrood House, official Scottish residence of the British Queen. The East Princes Street Gardens are the city’s green paradise with large trees, well-manicured lawns and the massive Sir Walter Scott Monument. This city of poets and culture is one of the oldest urban regions in Europe... and home of the Scottish nation.

Scotland’s towns, villages, cities, iconic attractions and stunning landscapes are as varied and as diverse as they come, so no matter where you end up you’ll be blown away by the breathtaking setting around you.
In the Highlands, one of the most famous and iconic landscapes is Glen Coe. Well-known across the globe for its features in big blockbuster movies, such as Braveheart and Highlander, its landscape is made up of swooping glens, towering mountains and an atmosphere that will leave you in awe. Nearby, the scenic Loch Leven is a perfect location for picturesque walks and exploring. Making an appearance in the Harry Potter films, the Glenfinnan Viaduct is an easily recognisable attraction, located in the incredible setting of Loch Shiel on the west coast. Take a trip on the Jacobite Steam Train and venture across the viaduct for a unique and memorable day out. Probably the most photographed castle in Scotland, Eilean Donan Castle near Dornie is a famous Scottish icon and once you set eyes on it, it’s easy to see why.
In the east, Dunnottar Castle is an incredible fortress perched on the Aberdeenshire coastline that is must-see when in the area and is home to many rich secrets of Scotland’s colourful past. Further south, head to the newly-opened and world-renowned V&A Dundee. This museum hosts incredible exhibitions of art and design from throughout the years and is Scotland’s first design museum and the only V&A museum in the world outside London.
Edinburgh & The Lothians has bundles to offer too. Connecting Edinburgh and Fife, the Forth Road Bridge in South Queensferry is one of the most iconic man-made structures in Scotland that dates back to the 19th century. Take a stroll across the bridge and marvel at the views out to sea. Edinburgh is bursting at the seams with attractions, famous locations, historic museums and more. Edinburgh Castle, Scott Monument, National Museum of Scotland, Royal Mile, Calton Hill and Princes Street Gardens are just a few of the places to visit. Just outside of the city, Rosslyn Chapel is nestled in the heart of Midlothian and boasts unique and mysterious carvings, tales of age-old myths and legends, and stunning grounds to explore.
Due south from Edinburgh, Dumfries & Galloway is home to the peculiar triangle-shaped Caerlaverock Castle. This medieval fortress features a moat, twin-towered gatehouse and imposing battlements, giving it a real ancient feel and atmosphere.
The Borders Railway encapsulates the enchanting regions of Edinburgh, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders alongside the rich history, landscapes, outdoor activities and more that these areas boast. Starting in Edinburgh Waverley, the train stops at various locations including Brunstane, Shawfair, Eskbank and Gorebridge before terminating in Tweedbank.
Glasgow, Scotland’s biggest city, offers the liveliness of city life, alongside striking architecture, fascinating museums, bustling streets and more. Explore the Riverside Museum, Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, People’s Palace and more to get a real feel of what the city is all about. North west of Glasgow in Argyll, the romantic Inveraray Castle on the shores of Loch Fyne is one of Scotland’s finest stately homes that has complimented the surrounding landscape since the early 15th century.
Explore the traditional and cultural side of Scotland on our incredible islands. In the Outer Hebrides the Hebridean Way from Vatersay in the south to the Isle of Lewis in the north is not to be missed. It’s a wonderful way to explore the islands either by bike on the 185-mile cycle network or on the long distance 156-mile walking route. On the Isle of Lewis, the popular Calanais Standing Stones are 5,000 years old with a visitor centre that guides you through the ages and tells the story of this world-famous attraction. Nearby on the Isle of Harris, Seilebost Beach will make you think you are somewhere in the Caribbean. With crystal clear waters, golden sandy beaches, and crisp sea air, the scenery will really take your breath away.
Further north, Orkney is another fascinating collection of Scottish islands. Visit the Neolithic site of Skara Brae and learn about the prehistoric settlement that was once found here and delve into what life was like on the islands some 5,000 years ago.

The Jacobite (Scotland) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Fort William is a small town on the banks of the long drawn-out Loch Linnhe in the Western Highlands of Scotland, and the starting point of our journey. At Fort William Station, a train known as The Jacobite is awaiting its passengers. This is the revival of a bygone age now brought back to life with this fine steam locomotive. Soon we have crossed the impressive Caledonian Canal and the line travels along the foothills of Loch Linnhe and negotiates a bend to the west at Fort William, as the route becomes increasingly narrower. The West Highland Railway was one of the last lines to have been built in Scotland and was once used for commercial traffic. Suddenly it emerges in the distance, the bridge that made film history with Harry Potter´s magic train, the Hogwart Express. At a slower pace, the train rumbles into Curves Viaduct, across Loch Shiel. From time to time the rocky shore of the Sound Of Sleat archipelago appears, as the train makes its way along the meandering tracks. It was not until the beginning of the nineteenth century that a road was built in this region, the Road To The Isles, which opened the way for holiday traffic. Today, the splendid Jacobite continues to be a sight to behold as it steams its way along one of the most beautiful railroads in the world. A remarkable experience on a remarkable railroad!
