India Rameshwaram Dhanuskodi Sea Confluence । Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean

Dhanuskodi, Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, India: Video shows confluence of two seas-Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean in the Gulf of Mannar near Dhanuskodi, Rameshwaram. Two seas with extreme opposite characteristics- Bay of Bengal (Male ) is silent like a river while Indian Ocean(Female) is aggressive .
The beach at the confluence is long and wide, pristine, devoid of crowd and really breathtaking, still virgin to non religious travelers. Only noise are from the crashing waves of Bay of Bengal, one can spend hours and hours here.

Dhanushkodi is 18kms from Rameshwaram town. A full fledged town used to exist here, was completely destroyed in 1964 cyclone, since then its been declared as Ghost Town.

A very serene, mystic, religious, pristine and beautiful place. A must visit.

1964 Cyclone: On that night (December 22) at 23.55 hours while entering Dhanushkodi railway station, the train No.653, Pamban-Dhanushkodi Passenger, a daily regular service which left Pamban with 110 passengers and 5 railway staff, was only few hundred yards before Dhanushkodi Railway station when it was hit by a massive tidal wave. The whole train was washed away killing all 115 on board. All together over 1800 people died in the cyclonic storm. All dwelling houses and other structures in Dhanushkodi were marooned in the storm . The high tidal waves moved deep onto this island and ruined the entire town. In terms of wind velocity which touched 150 knots (277km per hour) at Vavunia in Northern Sri Lanka on the evening of 22 Dec 1964[5] , the Rameshwaram cyclone is regarded as one of Asia's fiercest cyclone of 20th century.

Dhanushkodi or Danushkodi (Tamil: தனுஷ்கோடி) is a town/village at the southern tip of the Rameswaram island, at the eastern coast of the Tamil Nadu state of India.
Dhanushkodi is situated in the South-East of Pamban. Danushkodi is about 18 miles (29 km) West of Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. The Dhanushkodi railway line running from Pamban Station was destroyed in the 1964 cyclone and a passenger train with over 100 passengers drowned in the sea.

Hindu scriptures says that at the request of Vibeeshana, brother of Ravan and ally of Ram, Rama broke the Sethu with one end of his bow and hence the name Dhanushkodi, Dhanush meaning Bow and Kodi meaning end. It is also said that Rama marked this spot for Setu with one end of his famous bow. Bath in holy Sethu at the junction of the two seas normally precedes the pilgrimage to Rameswaram. A series of rocks and islets found in a line are shown as remnants of the ancient Setu also called as Rama's Bridge.

It is said that Pilgrimage to Kashi will be completed only after the worship at Rameswaram besides a holy bath in Dhanushkodi at the Confluence of Mahodadhi (Bay of Bengal) and Ratnakara (Indian Ocean).

Dhanush Kodi - Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal | A combination of Calm & the Fierce | Relaxing Music

Dhanush Kodi - Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal | A combination of Calm & the Fierce | Relaxing Music

Dear Friends,

The Dhanushkodi landscape makes all the difference. Arichal Munai, is the place which is the end of the road. Blue water on both sides. At the end of the road there is a confluence of both the seas. If the Bay of Bengal seems ferocious with its waves, the Indian Ocean seems calm and peaceful. I guess its the way man-woman share relationship. If one is aggressive, then generally the other will be calm. I guess that's the way nature strikes the balance and the role can be reversed too.

This beautiful view of the Indian Ocean one side and the Bay of Bengal on the other side, it is definitely something that you need to experience yourself.

Watch this video to enjoy the soothing waves of the Indian Ocean and do subscribe to my channel #wanderer.

Kanyakumari The land of Three Seas Triveni Sangam || Tamilnadu Tourism

Kanyakumari is the ‘Land’s End’ of the Indian subcontinent, located in the state of Tamilnadu in south India. It is famed for its incomparable geographical location of not only its land’s end, but also for Tri-sea (Arabian sea, Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal) confluence. Here, the Bay of Bengal meets the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. A dip in the ‘#TriveniSangam’ (confluence of the three seas) at Kanyakumari is considered holy.

Lakhs of tourists, round the year lured by the serene beauty of this place and the spectacles of sunrise and sunset. In the sea just 400 meters offshore, there are two rocks known as ‘twin rocks’, both contributing to the rich Indian heritage with the monuments of Swami Vivekananda and the great Tamil poet Saint Thiruvalluvar.

#VivekanandaRockMemorial Overview:
Built in 1970, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial is one of the finest pieces of human endeavor at architecture in Southern India. Situated on a rock island, Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a major tourist attraction in Kanyakumari and houses the statue of the great preacher Swami Vivekananda.

People believe that Swami Vivekananda swam to this small rocky island and meditated here in his quest for enlightenment. The Shripada Mandapam, having a study hall and a museum, and the Vivekananda Mandapam add to the spiritual significance and purity of the memorial.

dhanushkodi a place where India end meeting point of two oceans one bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean.

A visit to Rameshwaram is incomplete without dhanushkodi a place where India end meeting point of two oceans one bay of Bengal with great Indian ocean. from Rameshwaram take a taxi for rs 200 to dhanuskhodi and back on the way get darshan of laxmanam theertham where lord shi ram crowned vibishna. take 2 to 3 hrs to explore the beach. on the way you will get some shops offering cooked fishes and some goods made up of sea materials like mirrors decorative items hair clips jewelry, keyrings etc. you will also get coconut water there. walk around the beach and Sri Lanka is just 19 km from there. but there is no settlement as it is declared as unsafe zone my govt. due to tsunami so one can visit there until 5 to 6 pm only after which it is closed.Very nice view. It is a sangam of Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal.Beach is very beautiful and water is clean. It is 20 km away from Rameshwarm and it is end of the Indian land.Sri Lanka is only 18 km away from this point . Shri Ram went to Sri Lanka by this point by Ramsetu.
But there is no public facilities like Toilets, drinking water, no sitting area etcThe place is so pristine and so full of life. The gentle waves and calm shores are so inviting. Though bathing is not allowed ,you can always wet your feet. It is always a good idea to carry your own water bottle. There are local buses which ply from the city. The cab ride is about rupees 1300 from the town of Rameshwaram. Early morning or late evening are the ideal timings. On return a visit to the ruined Church and railway station are a must. Must see for all the young and the old....Dhanushkodi Beach is a beautiful scenic beach that thousands of tourists visit each day and is a center of attraction in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.  The Bay of Bengal and the Indian ocean merge at Dhanushkodi beach.
