SAN SALVADOR IS SAFE! Our Honest Review of Traveling in EL SALVADOR | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids

Welcome to San Salvador, the capital and the most populous city of El Salvador!

Being the country's political and cultural center, it takes up one-third of El Salvador's population and one-half of the country's wealth. The majority of the country‘s corporations are located in the city and that being said, it is a very important financial hub of Central America. With its wide boulevards and narrow streets, roadside stalls, churches, museums, exciting nightlife, it can be described as a modern and hectic city.

All year round, the weather is hot, being around 27 °C, and the coolest period of about 22.2 °C lasts from November to February. Except for its weather, San Salvador is also praised for its perfect location. It has proximity to both the ocean and mountains.

We stayed at María José Suites which was in a really really nice location. It is close to the San Salvador Bicentennial Park and the nearest airport.

El Salvador has a reputation for being dangerous and you might be asking yourself is El Salvador safe? and I'm sure people have told you never to come here. Well, we felt safe the whole time we were there. We took Uber to get around and visited all the highlights in the downtown area of San Salvador.

First Impressions of San Salvador! (El Salvador Travel Vlog 2022)

A visit to San Salvador is an interesting and exciting experience to say the least! The fact is there's a lot going on in not just the city, but the whole country of El Salvador right now. Most of what's going on is a place that's really improving and making bold and new moves. Visiting right now gives you the chance to witness all of that change and progress, and it's exciting to see!

In this video, we're mainly just talking about our first impressions and not pretending to be experts. Rarely does a place give you so many impressions and observations so quickly. The city has a lot of contrasts. From wide open, quiet residential neighborhoods and fancy, large shopping malls to crowded, loud, bustling markets that are like mazes surrounding the city center. The pace and the prices certainly change from one side of town to the other, but the strong Salvadoran culture is just as strong.

A Ticket To El Salvador - Cigars, Coconuts and Pupusas

In El Salvador, we visited two towns; Suchitoto and El Cuco. We enjoyed Suchitoto for its local feel and delicious coffee at Casa de la Abuela. We spent our time eating $1 pupusas, visiting a lady who has been hand rolling cigars since she was a young girl and going on a short hike with our tour group. In El Cuco, we did the exact opposite - absolutely nothing. This is a small beach town and we just enjoyed relaxing with fresh daily coconuts.

Cinquera Nature Reserve (WAR history) El Salvador Travel Series.

In this episode we visit the Cinquera Nature Reserve and learn about the war history of El Salvador.

Cinquera is located approximately 20 minutes drive from Suchitoto and the area was affected a lot by the civil war. It was very interesting and we got the opportunity to ask his questions and our tour guide Josue from Suchitoto Adventure Outfitters translated for us.

We hiked thought the jungle and learned about what life was like in the jungle and saw their hospital and a Vietnamese kitchen. We finished the tour visiting the town of Cinquera.

We really enjoyed this tour and if you want more information check out Suchitoto Adventure Outfitters web site

Visiting Suchitoto | El Salvador

Suchitoto is a beautiful town in El Salvador. It's very picturesque and not that touristy as it's slightly off the usual tourist spots.

The streets have multi coloured buildings and there is a huge lake nearby for boating and exploring.

In this El Salvador Travel Vlog I visit Suchitoto and explore the local area.

Update on El Salvador’s Airport tax (June 2, 2018)

There is not a lot of information on the tax that one has to pay when staying in a hotel for a long layover in El Salvador. I made this video to clarify things and so that others won’t be as confused or scared as me when going through their airport. The situation was a lot easier than expected and the tax isn’t expensive either, but for my flight, I didn’t even have to pay it because it was apparently included in my flight ticket price. I wish you all the best luck when doing the same as me, safe travels!
