San Marino Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

San Marino – With an area of just over 20 square miles, join us as we explore Europe’s third smallest country. Make no mistake, there’s no shortage of cool spots to check out.

When ready, browse vacation packages to San Marino:

Find the longstanding city-state, #SanMarino, in eastern Italy’s countryside. A #vacation here means enjoying age-old architecture, excellent food, and shopping delights.

Rising from the republic’s rolling hills is Mount Titano, where the country’s founder, Saint Marinus, sought refuge in the 3rd Century. Over the centuries, three towers were built to ward off invaders; today these towers watch over a country overflowing with history, culture and beauty.

Just beyond the towers lies the republic’s ancient capital, San Marino City. The heart and soul of this city is Liberty Square, home to the Statue of Liberty and the Palazzo Pubblico. Wherever you turn you’ll see tributes to the republic’s founder, no more so than in San Marino Basilica, where the bones of the saint now rest beneath the altar.

San Marino is a welcoming escape for lovers of art and history, and a tax-free haven for shoppers.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

SAN MARINO travel tips - facts and guide to this tiny and amazing country!

Read More:

San Marino is one of the smallest countries in the world and the least visited in Europe but here are some interesting facts and regions to visit this republic!

For such a minuscule country, San Marino provides a fascinating collection of unique facts, outstanding views and an impressive history. Given its size though, many people opt to take just a day trip to San Marino from one of it’s neighbouring Italian cities and not spend a night or more getting to know it.

As the fifth smallest country in the world, and surrounded by Italy, it’s easy to see how San Marino could merely be a novelty country tick while travelling around the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. But I for one think that this micro-state deserves at least one night of your vacation.

One day trip to REPUBLIC OF SAN MARINO

A great day visiting the 5th smallest country in the world with just over 33,000 population. San Marino is a landlocked country but the northeastern end is within 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) of the Italian city of Rimini on the Adriatic Sea.

It is one of the wealthiest countries in the world in GDP per capita, with a figure comparable to the most developed European regions.

In this video, I'll show you places I visited in just one day.

Visiting San Marino in 2021 | a day trip ????????

A day in the beautiful country of San Marino ????????

We got а deja vu from entering Liechtenstein from Switzerland last year - the border is invisible. On the billboards, we judged that people definitely go shopping in the small country. Our accommodation was in Emma's guest house, which towers in a green area above the vineyards and features amazing views of the city of San Marino and Mount Titano with its three towers.

San Marino parking lots were much cheaper, much more available, and better organized. We left the car and through a system of several elevators we were at the foot of the Old Town. The city of San Marino is built on a massive hill, but the hike up and down to explore the three towers is totally worth it. The beginning of the Holy Republic of San Marino, according to the legend, was given by the stonemason St. Marinus, who established a monastic society on Mount Titano in 301 AD. That is why San Marino is considered to be the oldest surviving sovereign state in the world. The economy is driven by finance, industrial production, services, and tourism. Small countries are very similar in some respects. And San Marino is a modern example of diarchy rule (as is Andorra), in which the state is ruled by two rulers with equal power.

We are very pleased with the day we spent in country number 81 (or 82 - we still have internal disputes on the matter). Once we found the most delicious pizza in the country, explored two of the towers up close and the third from a little further away, and got magnets and a bottle of sparkling San Marino wine for later, all we had to do was get take-out food for home and welcome the night with a view and terrace lights. Although there were mosquitoes, we managed to rest very well.

In the morning Emma surprised us with a hearty breakfast with piadini, pizzas, strudels, pecorino from San Marino, cappuccino, we have to stop here - because we started salivating again. We absorbed some more of the view, which was like a live postcard, and headed for Rimini.

A day in the Republic of San Marino

Located in the Italian peninsula, the Republic of San Marino has a territory of 61km2 and about 33,000 inhabitants. Being founded on 3 September 301 A.D., it is the oldest sovereign State and constitutional Republic in the world.

San Marino is a parliamentary Republic with two Captains Regent (Heads of State) and a Parliament composed of 60 members. The official language is Italian and the currency is Euro.

San Marino can be easily reached, being just 15 km from South Rimini motorway exit, 25 km from the International Airport Rimini – San Marino, 110 km from Ancona Airport and 130 km from Bologna Airport, which has excellent connections with all major European cities. An aerodrome with a 650-metre-long grass airstrip, suitable for tourism light aircraft, is present on its territory.
The nearby city of Rimini, besides having a well-connected railway station, hosts a tourist harbor with 622 moorings and a mirror of water of over 100,000 sqm. The Italian seaports of Ancona and Ravenna are 120 km and 86 km away respectively.

Every year more than 2 million tourists visit San Marino, which has been recognised by UNESCO as an exceptional testimony to the institution of a representative democracy based upon civic autonomy and self-government. San Marino has been the capital city of an independent Republic since the 13th century with unique continuity and no interruptions.

San Marino Day Trip

San Marino is a mountainous microstate surrounded by north-central Italy. Among the world’s oldest republics, it retains much of its historic architecture. On the slopes of Monte Titano sits the capital, also called San Marino, known for its medieval walled old town and narrow cobblestone streets. The Three Towers, castlelike citadels dating to the 11th century, sit atop Titano’s neighboring peaks.
Its size is just over 61 km2 (24 sq mi), with a population of 33,562.
