Saint Pierre and Miquelon is a popular place to visit from Newfoundland, as it only requires a 1.5-hour ferry. However, you can also fly there from a number of cities, including Montreal, Halifax, St. John's, and Paris!

Saint-Pierre, France...just 15 miles from Canada?!!
Did you know there is a part of France 15 miles from Canada? You can find true patisseries, rare Bordeaux wines, and petanque in the park, but you'll need to go through EU immigration to get in on it. The island of Saint-Pierre dates back to the 1500s, with architecture ranging from baroque plazas to charming saltbox houses.
Their livelihood has traditionally been cod fishing, but they have always been reinventing themselves. In the 1920s, they saw prohibition as their chance to be the US's go-to rum runners. Today, small businesses like Ligne Verte are using high-tech hydroponic farming to finally bring locally grown produce to the rocky isle. Artisans like Chez Rika are no longer using cow leather, but salvaged fish skins and cork for her eco-friendly couture and workshops to make your own souvenir. Restaurants like Le Bar a Quai are bringing vegetarian dishes to a traditionally meat-heavy culture. And Yellow Waves musician collective had turned an old fishing shed into one of the coolest concert venues.
With French style, Canadian kindness, and Saint-Pierre ingenuity, we found our new favorite part of France.
