Sailing the BUSIEST Shipping Channel in the WORLD! (Sailing Nandji) Ep 115

Stopping the boat from sinking on Christmas, we take Nandji through the Busiest Shipping lane in the world!

After a sailing through the night on our 8th day of passage on Christmas eve, we make a spontaneous decision to stop off on Christmas day to speak to family. With the polluted water of the city, a squall blows through in the wee hours of the morning and we drag anchor because of the plastic on the bottom.
Finally in the safety of Nongsa Point Marina, we rest up and let the unusual weather blow through up north. We celebrate New Years eve and enjoy the week spent in the luxurious resort/marina. Having a swimming pool to play in, air conditioning, cold drinks and a washing machine! Oh the luxuries!!
The weather clears and it is time to sail in the busiest shipping lane in the world! We had been nervous about this passage ever since deciding to sail this far to the boat yard. The Singapore strait was an eye opener as the sheer size and speed of the vessels passing so close to you kept us on the edge of our seats!

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades!

Limping up the Malacca Strait, the Final 400nm (Sailing Nandji) Ep 116

Our boat is broken and we have 400nm to get to the boat yard, will we make it?

Leaving the safety of the marina, we head out into the busy shipping area of the Malacca Strait. We have sailed and limped Nandji over 1600nm to get this far and now have a measly 400nm left to arrive to Langkawi and the ship yard where we can haul out and fix our beloved Nandji.

The Malacca Strait is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world and has on average a ship entering or exiting its water every 6 minutes. We sail up the tight inshore designated traffic area squeezed between land and the shipping channel. With strong winds, heavy squalls, fishing nets and tons of little fishing boats to avoid and crossing the shipping lane into Kuala Lumper, this final 400nm was eventful you could say!

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. Solving our Water leak for good! Stern tube installation (Sailing Nandji) Ep 124

With a constant water leak sinking our boat, we install a NEW stern tube and fix the problem!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrive back to Langkawi with a boat full of NEW gear to install onto Nandji. Upon our return to the boatyard, we had a special delivery from Australia, our NEW Stern tube! We had been waiting on this to arrive for weeks as we need to install the stern tube, to then install the shaft so we can align and position the new engine correctly.
We have had a trickle of water though the hull on the outside of the stern tube since we burnt out a bearing on our journey to the boatyard and created a hole in the old stern tube. We take you through the installation process of the new Stern tube and solve our water leak for good!

With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. Currently on the hard stand, we are re-powering and completing a major refit!
Ripping up the Rotten Deck! Sailing around the World! (Sailing Nandji) Ep 121

We discovered lots of soft patches on the Bow on Nandji and take the plunge and see what we find. We are repairing Nandji to continue our journey Sailing around the world.

In this episode of Sailing Nandji we are held up from the engine install and start on another repair project of attending to the soft spots on the bow. We remove the old windlass to install the new but discover a little more rot than expected! Yosh takes to the soft spots with a chisel and hammer and uncovered wet wood under the fibreglass. Like most boat jobs, things must get worse before they can get better and before you know it, a huge portion of the bow is ripped up and wood taken out. We take you through the steps we used to repair, replace and restore the area.

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. A Bit of a Nightmare Passage... (Sailing Nandji) Ep 84

Our most frightening time at sea...

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we depart the Solomon Islands and sail 450nm to Rabaul in Papua New Guinea. It turned out to be a bit of a nightmare passage with many obstacles to over come along the way. With Bonita's resilience and determination, Nandji powers on and we reach Papua New Guinea waters. This passage was challenging, annoying, beautiful and also the most scariest as we endure our most frightening time at sea.

Thankyou to everyone who contributed to Nandji's new windlass in the SAVE YOSHS BACK campaign. We have reached our target and are working on the logistics of purchasing one and having it delivered to a future port down the track! Yew!

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! 5000nm down and many more to go!

The Most Exhausting Sailboat... (Sailing Nandji) Ep 109

Off the coast of Lombok we lose our engine, how do we get out of this one?

This week on Sailing Nandji, heading back to sea after a lovely quick stop off at the Komodo Islands, we continue sailing into the sunset heading West towards the island of Lombok. Cruising past the island of Sumbawa, we have engine issues and discussing the great places on the island, decide to make a detour and explore for a few waves. Having a quick surf at Scar reef, we return to the sea crossing the Alas Strait between Sumbawa and Lombok. We have 100nm to travel to reach the destination where we plan to collect our new crew member. Off the coast of Lombok, things take a turn for the worse losing our engine. How do we get out of this one!

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have been in Indonesia for a couple of months cruising and are now high tailing to Malaysia for boat work. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! Hello NEW MOTOR!! Goodbye old Smokey! (Sailing Nandji) Ep 118

With Nandji on the hard stand, it is time to get this old engine off our boat! Good Riddance Old Smoky!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, with Nandji firmly set on the hard stand our boat refit begins. After having so many troubles with our old engine in the past, this was the first job tackled, ripping out the old engine. Nandji is a centre cockpit vessel and the engine is directly below the cockpit, making the obvious choice for removal through the cockpit, hence cutting a hole in the floor.
We plan to overhaul the entire engine compartment and everything to do with the old engine. New drive system including gearbox, new exhaust system and new fuel system, including the fuel tank itself. The old fuel tank was made out of steel and had become rusty and no doubt close to leaking, time to fix everything and get this old stuff of our boat. With some clever rigging techniques, steadily the old fuel tank and our old engine Old Smoky are removed and taken away.

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. Removing Shaft in Water without SInking!! - Sailing Nandji, Ep 66

We remove the drive shaft in water and replace a bearing behind the stuffing box. Then raft up with two other vessels in the stunning anchorage of Tokoyo Bay.

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we head to Sesape boat yard in Tulagi, Florida Islands. We were warned about getting boat work done in the Solomons, but the skilful labour at the boat yard matched anywhere else in the world. Without hauling out Nandji, we removed the drive shaft in water and replaced the bearing behind the stuffing box. I was sceptical at first at how they planned to achieve this and not sink Nandji, but I learnt a new trick and were very happy with the work they completed. If you need any boat work done, we recommend Sesape boat yard!
With a healthy Nandji once again, we quickly return to Honiara to get some food and then head back across Iron Bottom Sound to the Florida Islands to convoy with two other vessels we met along the way. Rafting up in the stunning Tokoyo Bay, we enjoy a dinner with friends on the vessel Sand Pebble.

Needing to get a heap of things fabricated for our refit, lets go to the land of GSD (Get Sh$t Done)

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, our refit is moving forward in leaps and bounds. With the engine room overhauled and the bow rebuilt, we have run into a wall as Chinese New year fast approaches and majority of the businesses in Langkawi shut down for 2 weeks. The lead up to the New year everyone was in holiday mode already and we could not get anything built. Uncle Kevin to the rescue!!! We load up his vessel with everything needed to be remade and a list of items needed to be purchased and off we go sailing to Thailand!

How to Fiberglass & Engine Room Makeover! (Sailing Nandji) Ep 120

Our engine room has gone form a Oily Greasy mess to a shiny bright white!

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, Nandji is high and dry in the boat yard. With a looong list of jobs we plan to complete whilst on the hard stand, we are busy in renovating our engine room ready to install our new Yanmar Fang. We have been lucky to have a fellow Salty sailor wish to help us install the new engine, Uncle Kevin is also a guru fibreglasser after glassing surfboards professionally for over 30 years. This man knows a thing or two about fibreglassing and he takes us through the types of matting we use to reinforce the bearers ready for the new engine mounts to bolt on too. After two weeks on the hard stand our engine room has gone form a oily greasy mess from our old engine to a glistening white solid room ready for our new motor!

We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We sail a 300nm passage with stormy nights, arriving to Indonesia and they take our passports!

Arriving to Jayapura, Indonesia, we go through the run around of organising our entry which rarely goes smoothly. We have trouble with immigration and they take our passports. Give them back!

Lets Make this Motor Work! | Sailboat Refit (Sailing Nandji) Ep 128

The final instalments of our NEW Engine.

In this episode of Sailing Nandji, our new engine Fang is finished off. We finish of the drive system installation installing the PSS Shaft seal, align the engine and install the Sigma Drive. The Sigma Drive in our eyes is a genious piece of engineering allowing and compensating for any alignment issues and protecting damage to our gearbox.
We run our new 3 inch exhaust and this involves cutting a new hole in the sides of Nandji. There are 2 types of people that own boats... Ones that drill holes in them and the ones that dont!

Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean.

We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! Delos is BACK! Sailing to Tobago! Ep.207

After 5 months in Grenada, Delos was chomping at the bit to get back out there! We pull up the anchor and beat our way down towards the rugged and amazingly beautiful island of Tobago. Then it was time for that moment when we shut the engine off and the only sound you can hear is the wind and the waves lapping on the side of the boat….it’s an indescribable feeling of peace and freedom, and it had been way too long since we experienced it on Delos. Once we get settled into our anchorage, we go for a shakedown dive to test out all our gear, and most importantly, break in our brand new underwater communication system! It takes a bit of adjustment, but eventually you couldn’t shut us up down there!

Gone With The Wynns & Sailing Ruby Rose Crossover | Sailing French Polynesia | Part 1

It's finally here: the first episode of the Gone With The Wynns and Sailing Ruby Rose crossover!

Nikki and Jason's channel:

It started with a casual Instagram comment, and resulted in an amazing week onboard s/v Curiosity with Nikki and Jason from the truly fantastic YouTube channel, Gone With They Wynns (don't already watch it? You really should).

In this episode, the first in our series onboard Curiosity, we settle into life in French Polynesia and sail from Tahiti to Mo'orea, its neighbouring island.

We hope you enjoy this video, and if you do then please consider subscribing to our channel, giving the episode a thumbs up, and adding your comment to the conversation below.

Cheers!

Nick & Terysa

Off Season Sailing In The Gulf Islands - Ep. 140 RAN Sailing

The Gulf Islands, British Columbia, are perfect to cruise in the off season. The distances are short between anchorages and towns and there are so many to chose from. We visit three islands and enjoy some really nice autumn sailing!

We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter, January 2016, and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.

Living In Solitary Confinement | Alone With A Broken Hip On My Boat | Winded Voyage 4 | Episode 109

My injury has confined me to my boat. I cant walk. I'm living in solitary confinement. My body will need time to heal before I can walk and even consider sailing. My Winded Voyage has come to a sudden halt. Or has it? Accidents happen and if one survives, life goes on. This is just part of my living adventure series.
