The Story of Tradition: Anguilla’s Historic Sailing Vessel

Climb aboard Tradition Anguilla!

A top Anguilla activity, Tradition is steeped in rich history. She is a 42' Carriacou sloop that was built in 1978. She ran between the Caribbean islands, transporting goods of all kinds and today she has settled into semi-retirement in Anguilla.

Captain Laurie Gumbs and Deborah Vos run a five-star sailing charter on this historic sailing ship. By day, they sail to beautiful Prickly Pair and Little Bay, and by evening? They offer one of the most magical experiences to be had... an Anguilla sunset cruise.

This video takes you aboard a Tradition sunset and shares the story of the beautiful, Tradition.

How To Get To Little Bay

One of Anguilla's best beaches, Little Bay is proof that good things come in small packages ????????????

Little Bay is one of Anguilla's most unique and hardest to reach beaches. This tiny strip of sand is surrounded by majestic high cliffs that tower over some of the clearest waters in Anguilla. A destination for snorkeling, swimming and soaking up the sun, Little Bay is a must visit.

The only question is...

How do you get to Little Bay? Here are our top 4 ways to get to this hidden gem of a beach.

#1. Catch the boat with Calvin from Crocus Bay.

The most popular way to get to Little Bay is catching a ride with Calvin. Find him on Crocus Bay every day from 9am. For a modest fee, he will drop you off and pick you back up when you're ready. We owe Calvin a big debt of thanks for making Little Bay so accessible ????

#2. Hike down the sea rocks.

This is how we usually get to Little Bay. In this vlog we show you how to drive to the hiking trail and how to hike along the cliffs down to the sea's edge to jump in. Proceed with caution if you choose this method!

#3. Sail over with Tradition Sailing's Little Bay charter.

One of the most peaceful ways to visit Little Bay is aboard Tradition. The sail over... the exquisite lunch of lobster rolls... the ever-flowing rum punches and rose... we could do this every single day.

#4. Hire a private boat charter.

Little Bay is also a popular stop for private boat charters. A private boat trip is a must-do on every Anguilla vacation. We highly recommend hitting the water with Rum & Reel Charters and scheduling a stop at Little Bay on your day at sea!

Anguilla Snapchat - Sailing with Chocolat to Prickly Pear

Sail to PEERLESS Prickly Pear with Captain Rollins and the lovely 35' Caribbean catamaran, Chocolat.

Prickly Pear with Aquamania Adventures

This little Cay is pure paradise, lying a short distance off the coast of Anguilla. Completely deserted excepting for the two little restaurants that provide lunch to visitors, nobody lives on Prickly Pear and restaurant staff travel over each day to be of service.

This destination is all about relaxation. Palm trees bask in the sun, sugar birds dart through the restaurant and besides the three reefs for snorkeling, a walk around the island reveals great bird life. Simply gorgeous, Prickly Pear is a great choice for families with kids as the boat anchors for the day in one spot, with a nice long beach and shallow waters close in.

Lunch is also a choice of BBQ chicken, fish or ribs and the day is spent languidly snorkeling, swimming or sunbathing. The call to leave comes all too soon.

Anguilla - Prickly Pear

- Call us! (800) 869-8017 Prickly Pear Cays is two small, uninhabited islands located just 6 miles from Road Bay Anguilla. They are divided by a narrow channel into Prickly Pear east and Prickly Pear west. Both offer 360 degrees of powdery sand and turquoise water. It's popular among swimmers and snorkelers looking for a less crowded experience. You'll have to hop a sailboat or catamaran to make your way over but the effort is rewarded. May we suggest snorkeling the Anguilla side where the tourist boats don't sail. Here you'll find beautiful pink and yellow conch shells and abundant marine life. There are two restaurants and a bar so spending the day here is no problem.
