The Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado was our first stop during our Van Life roadtrip and it did not disappoint.
We chose the Great Sand Dunes National Park because it is one of the only dog friendly national parks in Colorado, has an incredible mountain range set right beside America’s largest sand dunes, and the icing on the cake? We were able to book a campground INSIDE the National Park for two nights, so we could walk right out into the Sand Dunes from our camp site to go on our daily hikes with our dune dog ;)
This Colorado roadtrip would not be possible without our new favorite home on wheels, HotelVroom. We rented this fully equipped, luxury campervan that had every single amenity we could ask for: wifi, full sized bed, kitchen, indoor shower & bathroom, iPads, a SoloStove, unlimited mileage, and so much more!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment. We discovered the world of “travel hacking” & became obsessed. So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world. Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went home to “normal life.” We started this travel vlog to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with this lifestyle and did everything we could to keep going. 4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time. Van life was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. ????????????

We got our COVID shots just one day before entering the Great Sand Dunes, which unfortunately, did steal away a bit of our energy. However, we were still able to complete an 8-mile hike (not really sure how we did it) to a lookout of some beautiful rolling hills, and we were also able to enjoy the refreshing water of the Medano Creek. We’re so happy that we made our way back down to central Colorado to enjoy the dunes— we almost skipped it!

The Big One! | Great Sand Dunes National Park | Sand Sledding | Camping | Dunes at Night
We had such an epic trip to the Great Sand Dunes National Park! Being out on the dunes at night was an incredible experience. It was both the hardest and most rewarding hike we have been on. The next day we rented sand sleds and had some of the best thrills one could have. Our campsite was in the Pinon Flats campground site 28.

Traveling is embedded into our relationship as we met on a Spring Break cruise in 2016. Since then, we haven't stopped traveling together in the United States and abroad.
