Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya - The Smoke That Thunders) is one of the most spectacular, awe-inspiring waterfalls on our planet. It is located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, on Zambezi River. The mist from the waterfall can be seen from far away and sustains nearby rainforest.
Victoria Falls is considered the largest waterfall, based on its combined width (1,708 m/5,604 ft) and height (108 m/354 ft), even though it is not the highest or the widest. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Victoria Falls - Zambia Tourism
Victoria Falls presents a spectacular sight of awe-inspiring beauty and grandeur on the Zambezi River, forming the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It was described by the Kololo tribe living in the area in the 1800’s as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ – ‘The Smoke that Thunders’. In more modern terms Victoria Falls is known as the greatest curtain of falling water in the world.
Columns of spray can be seen from miles away as, at the height of the rainy season, more than five hundred million cubic meters of water per minute plummet over the edge, over a width of nearly two kilometres, into a gorge over one hundred meters below.
The wide, basalt cliff over which the falls thunder, transforms the Zambezi from a placid river into a ferocious torrent cutting through a series of dramatic gorges.
Facing the Falls is another sheer wall of basalt, rising to the same height, and capped by mist-soaked rainforest. A path along the edge of the forest provides the visitor prepared to brave the tremendous spray, with an unparalleled series of views of the Falls.
One special vantage point is across the Knife-edge Bridge, where visitors can have the finest view of the Eastern Cataract and the Main Falls as well as the Boiling Pot, where the river turns and heads down the Batoka Gorge. Other vantage points include the Falls Bridge, Devils Pool and the Lookout Tree, both of which command panoramic views across the Main Falls.

Drone footage of Victoria Falls during the dry season. Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the seven wonders of the world. At the peak of the rainy season, Victoria Falls extends for nearly 2 kms in the world's longest continuous wall of water. Absorbing the entire flow of the Zambezi River, the flow rate of Victoria Falls is more than twice that of Niagra Falls. The massive clouds of mist created by the waterfall generates nearly permanent double rainbows and beautiful pink clouds at sunset and sunrise.

About Victoria Falls: Victoria Falls (Lozi: Mosi-oa-Tunya, The Smoke That Thunders; Tonga: Shungu Namutitima, Boiling Water) is a waterfall on the Zambezi River in southern Africa, which provides habitat for several unique species of plants and animals. It is located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and is one of the worlds largest waterfalls, with a width of 1,708 m (5,604 ft). David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, is believed to have been the first European to view the falls on 16 November 1855, from what is now known as Livingstone Island, one of two land masses in the middle of the river, immediately upstream from the falls near the Zambian shore. Livingstone named his sighting in honour of Queen Victoria, but the Sotho language name, Mosi-oa-Tunya—The Smoke That Thunders—continues in common usage. The World Heritage List officially recognises both names. Livingstone also cited an older name, Seongo or Chongwe, which means The Place of the Rainbow, as a result of the constant spray.
