But the island is strong and everyday progress is made.

After Hurricane Irma: St. Maarten is Open for Business
St. Maarten was one of a handful of Caribbean islands to suffer significant damage from Hurricane Irma, which made landfall in September 2017. The cruise port was closed for three months, while recovery efforts were underway to get beaches, restaurants and other tourist attractions back up in running; affected islands relied on tourism to help get them back on their feet. We were one of the first to return to the port, after it opened in December 2017, during a cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas. Here’s a look at what we saw during our visit.

EYE to EYE with HURRICANE IRMA on Sint Maarten
We outlived HURRICANE IRMA and FILMED all of it
Here is the first look into our story of being stranded on Sint Maarten last September through the devastating Cat 5 storm Irma. We're excited to say that this glimpse is just the beginning of a larger project to provide awareness and support to disaster relief.
We worked first hand with The K1 Britannia Foundation and saw the impact that first response disaster relief has on communities that are wiped off the map from catastrophes like Irma. We encourage you to see more of their mission and how you can help directly at:

Experiencing the Devastation of Hurricane Irma in St Maarten / St Martin
I saw hurricane destruction up close and personal for the first time in my life when I visited St. Maarten / St Martin.
When Hurricane Irma struck the island in September 2017, winds of 180 mph tore through the island, destroying everything it it's path. It wasn't bad enough dealing with Irma, but they had to deal with Hurricane Jose and Hurricane Maria in the following weeks.

We wanted to give you guys a little but of what we have been going through the last couple of days. We are alive and happy that we are still here. Unfortuney Mischief did not make it but we are already starting to look to the future holds for us. There are still lots of people that need help in St.Maarten. We hope our new friends all make it out of there safe and sound. Once again we are so lucky we are still alive! If you would like to help us during this time we would really appreciate it. Images of the massive destruction caused by Hurricane Irma on our Caribbean island of St. Maarten - St-Martin have gone around the world. The island got knocked down, but not counted out (to use boxing lingo). Weeks have passed since the storm and the island population is busy in rebuilding. Many bars, restaurants and other businesses have reopened during late September/October.
