10 Best Places to Visit in Sri Lanka - Travel Video

Check out all the places seen in this video:

Sri Lanka may be a small island in the Indian Ocean but that’s the only thing small about it. The country, formerly known as Ceylon, boasts an ancient civilization, golden sandy beaches with their swaying coconut palms, mountains, and tea plantations. While visiting the island, you’ll see colonial architecture from the days when the Portuguese, Dutch and English ruled. You’ll also see lots of elephants, some of which participate in local festivals and, if you’re lucky, perhaps a leopard or two at a wildlife sanctuary. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Sri Lanka:

I was delighted to finally get to the 'secret' spots or hidden gem that everyone seemed to knows about.Jungle Beach is a pretty bay just west of Unawatuna. .
It's a pleasant, hilly 2-km walk from Unawatuna; access by road is only via a side lane from the highway. Tuk-tuks charge Rs 400 from Unawatuna.

Back of Beyond - Pidurangala, Sigiriya | Hotels in Sri Lanka

#backofbeyond #pidurangala #sigiriya

Introduction

Back of Beyond Pidurangala is the cultural triangle version of this rustic eco collection in Sri Lanka. Set amidst four acres of wilderness that is inhabited by over 100 species of birds, deer and sambur, it lies in a small clearing in jungle thicket in an area where history dates back to 5th century AD. The Sri Lankan owners are ardent nature lovers, so cleared the bare minimum of the wilderness in order to construct the nature retreat. Two innovatively-designed eco-friendly dwellings provide comfortable accommodation, but there is no a/c, phones or TV – instead, guests are encouraged to experience simple rural living. Set off on an early morning jungle trek to Pidurangala Rock, a fascinating site with an ancient history that is connected to Sigiriya Rock Fortress. King Kasyapa, involved in the legend of Sigirya, built a forest monastery for Buddhist monks in Pidurangala, ruins of which still remain, including a 45ft reclining Buddha statue and several caves.

Accommodation

There are two sizeable cottages – Wellang and Weera – each with their own living, dining and sleeping areas. Accommodation is in rooms or separate cottages, designed with an ethnic feel and furnished with single or double beds fitted with mosquito netting. Attached bathrooms have open-air h/w showers. All rooms are cooled by overhead fans.

Wellang: This is a spacious dwelling with a living and dining area and three double bedrooms with attached bathrooms. One bedroom has a loft and can be used as a family room. Up to six adults and two children can be accommodated here. Wellang is only given out to one party at a time, ensuring complete privacy.

Weera: Weera has a living and dining area and three separate cottages – Shama, Iora and Malkoha. Living area has a loft and library. The cottages have attached bathrooms and private verandas. Each cottage can accommodate two adults and one has a day bed for an additional person. Weera can be rented per cottage.

Facilities

Traditional Sri Lankan rice and curries are served, cooked with fresh vegetables and produce purchased from the village market. A BBQ is organised on some nights. Meals times are flexible. Wi-Fi is available. There are also bicycles that guests can use to explore the surroundings. Go bird-watching or trekking in the wilderness accompanied by one of the staff, who are well versed with the area.

???????? Sri Lanka: travel documentary

#Srilanka #Travel #Documentary

We just arrived in Sri Lanka and we get on a bus to reach Galle, a colonial fortified town in the south. The bus air con is provided by the doors which are kept always open. We loved at first sight the colorful people and the many tuk-tuks that are around. All Bajaj like the one they we drove in India 10 years ago.

In this travel report, we explore Sri Lanka by bus, train and tuk-tuk. The definition “India for beginners” is not doing justice to this country. We soon learn, that more than temples and landscapes, we are fascinated by its colourful population

SRI LANKA The jungle and the ruins

Sri Lanka is the homeland of elephants, jewels and Ceylon tea, well-known to the whole world. There are beaches, the jungle, ruins of the ancient cities, Buddhist and Hindu temples.
Sri Lanka is accurately divided into certain regions, as though specially created for travelers with various interests. If you are interested in the best and most popular beaches, then you need to go straight from the airport to the coast of Negombo or Bentota. Or to one of the beaches between them. If you wish for the sea and the sun, and less people, then it is better to choose the beaches on the Eastern coast.
Fans of the history can straight away, without any delay, head to the central part of the island, where there is the congregation of ruins of the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, the amazing rock of Sigiriya, numerous temples, monasteries and huge Buddhist stupas. And for those, who enjoy tea, mountain walks and slow trips on trains with charming views - a direct road to the mountain part of Ceylon.

Sri Lanka on National Geographic - Documentary

Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) is an island nation south of India in the Indian Ocean. Its diverse landscapes range from rainforest and arid plains to highlands and sandy beaches. It’s famed for its ancient Buddhist ruins, including the 5th-century citadel Sigiriya, with its palace and frescoes. The city of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's ancient capital, has many ruins dating back more than 2,000 years.

Sigiriya - Sri Lanka | Joe Journeys

Sigiriya – the Lion Rock. Ancient City of Sigiriya is the most visited historic site in Sri Lanka. The ruins lie on the steep slopes and at the summit of a granite peak standing some 180m high, the 'Lion's Rock', which dominates the jungle from all sides.

Polonnaruwa Ruins Sri Lanka's Ancient City

In this travel vlog we head to explore the Polonnaruwa ruins, the second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms. This incredible world heritage site dates back to the 10th century and although pricey for budget travellers like us, this site has so much to see and we really enjoyed spending the day exploring the Polonnaruwa Ruins.
