About Sonmarg: Sonmarg is known to have a lot of significance in the old times. This is because it was the gateway of the Silk Road, which connected Kashmir and China. This is also a great base camp for Amarnath yatra and share borders with Ladakh.

Srinagar to Sonmarg distance is 80 kms and takes around 3 hours to reach. The journey is so scenic and beautiful.

Thajiwas Glacier - Thajiwas Glacier, located at an altitude of 9,186 feet at a short distance from Sonmarg in Jammu & Kashmir, is enormous and blessed with magnificent beauty. From Sonmarg, it takes around 45 mins to 1 hour on pony ride and a hike can take you to 2-3 hours to reach there. Its a must visit place when in Sonmarg, don't miss it.

Zojila Pass & Zero Point: While travelling to Kargil or Leh from Srinagar, there lies one of the most beautiful passes in the world: “The Zojila Pass,” popularly known as the Zero Point, with an altitude of 11575 feet, also known as the “Gate Way of Ladakh.

This was our first time in Sonamarg, and what a place it was! It shows you both the greenery of Kashmir and the dryness of Ladakh. Its the gateway town between Srinagar and Leh.
Day 1 - We took a cab and went for the car tour covering zero point, zojila pass, till the coldest place of India - Drass where we took a visit to the Kargil War Memorial and paid our respects to our brave martyrs.
Day 2- We went for the short trek to Thajiwas Glacier. WHAT A PLACE! You have to watch it to know it!

For trip to zero point, you might be asked to pay as high as 8000 or even 12000 for a car, if you don't know the base rates. A reasonable price would be 3500-4000 for Zero Point and 5500-6000 till Drass. I would highly recommend you go to Drass, as its a totally different sight!
