Located on an uninhabited five-island cluster in the Noonu Atoll, Soneva Jani features 51 enormous overwater pool villas that come with retractable roofs and water slides. The villas are spread along two jetties that curve into a 5.6 km (3,4 mi) magnificent lagoon of crystal clear waters. Known as Chapter One and Chapter Tow, both jetties are connected to the Maldives’ largest resort island, a tropical paradise fringed by pristine beaches and blanketed with lush tropical greenery.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. Soneva Jani is one of the best places and most luxurious resort we’ve ever been to. A week of pure bliss. The Villa was impressive with a breathtaking view of the sunrise and sunset. Your trip to Soneva Jani will start once you land in the Maldives. There, a resort's representative will pick you up to bring you to the seaplane terminal. Then, count approximately 50min scenic seaplane to reach paradise.
From the moment we arrived on the island, we were greeted with warm smiles and a refreshing drink while we waited to be whisked away to our overwater villa. And let us just say, the villa was absolutely stunning. Villa number 8 is highly recommended because the locations and the views are simply insane. Also, if you plan on staying at Soneva Jani, we would strongly recommend aiming for Chapter 1 instead of Chatper 2. Our overwater villa had a water slide that led straight into the ocean, a private pool, and a retractable roof so we could stargaze at night. It was the perfect mix of luxury and adventure.
One thing that really stood out to us about Soneva Jani was their commitment to sustainability. The no shoes policy make you close to nature and all of their water comes from a nearby desalination plant. They even have their own organic garden where they grow fruits and vegetables for their restaurants. We loved knowing that we were staying at a resort that prioritized the environment.
One important thing to know about Soneva Jani is that it is home to the biggest lagoon in the Maldives. It is huge but this makes that you can't really go for snorkeling on the house reef as you would in many other resorts we had the chance to visit. If you want to have some great snorkeling, as you can see in the video, you'll need to go on a 20-min boat trip to a nearby island where the reef is really stunning.
The food at Soneva Jani was absolutely delicious. They have a variety of restaurants to choose from, but our favorite was Director's Cut. You can enjoy delicious Asian (Japanese) food while watching a movie under the star. You could also consider So Local which is an open-air restaurant that serves fresh, healthy meals with ingredients straight from their garden. We also loved the cheese, ice cream and chocolate room at The Gathering, which had an extensive selection of artisanal cheeses and handcrafted chocolates.
During our stay, we had the opportunity to go on a snorkeling trip to a nearby island. It was truly magical as both the visibility and the fish life were incredible. And of course, we couldn't resist going down the water slide on our villa into the crystal clear water below. This, trust us, will keep you busy for hours!
One thing we really appreciated about Soneva Jani Maldives was their focus on wellness. They offer a variety of wellness experiences, from yoga and meditation classes to spa treatments and wellness consultations. We both got massages at their spa and they were some of the best we've ever had. Their newly opened Soneva Soul is the most impressive Spa we've seen in the Maldives! So big and perfectly blending with its surrounding nature.
Overall, we can't recommend Soneva Jani enough. It's truly a one-of-a-kind experience that we'll never forget. From the stunning overwater villas to the delicious food and commitment to sustainability, every detail is thoughtfully executed. We can't wait to come back someday and experience it all over again.

Our journey to Soneva Jani began at the bustling Male International Airport, where we embarked on a short seaplane ride that transported us to this pristine oasis. As our seaplane gracefully soared above the glistening waters, we couldn't help but marvel at the picturesque scenery unfolding beneath us. The aerial view of the Maldivian islands, with their vibrant coral reefs and turquoise lagoons, was a sight straight out of a postcard.
Upon landing at Soneva Jani's private jetty, we were greeted by the warm smiles of the resort's staff, who eagerly welcomed us to this slice of paradise and offered us to remove our shoes for the whole stay. The attentive service and attention to detail started from the moment we set foot on the jetty, setting the tone for the exceptional experience that awaited us.

It has everything we are looking for with the best service we've ever had, beautiful villas, gastronomic food and a special atmosphere that is so unique. We will definitely go back as it is simply our favorite 5* hotel in the Maldives.

With its world-renowned house reef, Anantara Kihavah goes on the second place of our favorite resorts in the Maldives. If you're a big fan of snorkeling, you are gonna love it, the reef is absolutely amazing and so is the fish life. Service, food, villa, island beauty, everything is there to give you the best possible experience in one of the best resorts in the Maldives.
???? Park Hyatt Hadahaa
Park Hyatt Hadahaa is totally worth the journey! Located quite far south of the Maldives, this 5* luxury Maldivian resort has maybe THE most beautiful island we've ever been to. The beaches are absolutely stunning and everything there is at top level. It totally deserves its third position among the top 10 best resorts in the Maldives for 2023.
#4 Soneva Jani
Maybe one of the most popular resort in the Maldives, and even in the world. Soneva Jani is home to the largest lagoon in the Maldives and its HUGE villas will never make you want to leave. This luxury resort in the Maldives is great for people who like big islands as it is one of the largest in the Maldives. Food, service, spa, you'll find everything you need to make your holidays or honeymoon very special.
#5 Como Cocoa Island
With just a bit more than 30 villas, Como Cocoa island is maybe our favorite resort in the Maldives for small island. No bike, no buggy, you can just walk around and enjoy the atmosphere of such a small place where you will really feel like home. The house reef at Como Cocoa Island is also amazing, super easy to snorkel and full of millions of fishes. Service and food are also top-notch and special mention to the spa where you'll maybe get the best massages of your life.
#6 Lux South Ari Atoll
Lux South Ari Atoll wins when it comes to quality/price ratio. The value of this resort is really excellent with some very reasonable prices given the quality of the service. Food was impressively good and the service was very attentive and caring. Be careful, this is not ideal for people looking for snorkeling as there is no real house reef at Lux South Ari Atoll.
#7 Waldorf Astoria
Among the best resorts in the Maldives, you'll also find Waldorf Astoria. Here again, we are on a pretty big island but you'll never feel the crowd of the 120 luxury villas that are spread on such a big area. Speaking of the villas, Waldorf Astoria maybe has the most beautiful ones. The design is amazing and the villas are extremely spacious.
#8 One&Only Reethi Rah
On 8th position of our ranking of the best resorts in the Maldives for 2023 you'll get One&Only Reethi Rah. Food, service, snorkeling, beaches, everything there will make you feel like in paradise.
#9 Raffles Maldives
With its 2 islands, Raffles offers something you'll not find anywhere else in the Maldives. The service is among the best we've had and the villas are absolutely beautiful, be it overwater or on the beach. Snorkeling at Raffles was also one of the best we've ever had with such a healthy reef.
#10 Soneva Fushi
An other Soneva in that ranking, but this time, in Baa Atoll, with Soneva Fushi which closes this top 10 of the best resorts in the Maldives. The island beauty, the very attentive service and the insane villas make it a very interesting resort that you should consider when planning your trip to the Maldives.

Incredible Maldives: Soneva Jani Overwater Villas
???? One of the best resorts in Maldives and in the whole world. Situated on the island of Medhufaru in the Noonu Atoll, the resort features both overwater and beach villas. Each water villa has its very own stretch of lagoon and is complete with a fantastic pool and a retractable roof to stargaze from the master bedroom. Some of the villas have slides from the top floor directly into the lagoon below.
