St. Martin Cathedral

Since 1997, when it was first embedded in the ground, it has become one of the symbols of our Old Town. There is a story around this man sticking out of a manhole. The story says that a wish will come true for you if you touch the head of the man – if you keep it secret forever.

Slovakia Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Slovakia.
Slovakia has a long and varied history and contains Europe’s youngest capital city and also its highest mountain range, as well as cultural masterpieces and unspoiled nature. Bratislava is located in the heart of Europe and is the capital of Slovakia. Surrounded by the City Hall and several palaces, it is like being taken back in time into a rich and glorious past. On the Danube’s Slovakian side, and to the east, is the town of Komárno. In the old urban market square a Miniature Europe with forty five buildings has, in recent years, come into existence. Towers, domes, arcades, half-timbered buildings and woodcarvings frame the square at whose centre is the Millennium Fountain. It is a unique mixture of architecture that signifies the common culture of European countries. Seven hundred metres above sea level, herds of sheep graze peacefully on the slopes of the Great Fatra, the location of the almost hidden and forgotten Vlkolĺnec, a unique village in the heart of Slovakia’s Liptov region. Today it is tantamount to being an open-air museum. Further north is Terchová, birthplace of Slovakia’s national hero, Juraj Jánošík. The legendary robber chief has an exhibition dedicated to him in which the living conditions and customs of that time are on display. The High Tatra is the smallest high mountain range in Europe. A magnificent mountain landscape with rocky mountains and many lakes. In 1947, the National Park of the same name was founded. Slovakia is a land of fortresses, castles and cities that date from the Middle Ages and, despite its many mountain regions, a southern-influenced way of life.

Tatranská Electrická Železnica (Slovakia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Tatranská Electrická Železnica in Slovakia.
The High Tatra is the smallest high mountain range in Europe, a magnificent mountain landscape with majestic rocky mountains and many lakes. The High Tatra National Park was founded in 1947 and is an imposing natural paradise in the heart of Slovakia. Its mountains were created when, in primeval times, the outliers on the southern and eastern edge of the Tatra Massif were forced within a deep graben. Here there is much high mountain plant life, fine endemic species of the Carpathians, and glacial remains. A healthy tree population surrounds crystal clear mountain lakes which came into existence at the end of the Last Ice Age. The Tatra Railway travels from Štrbské Pleso Station which connects a number of the Tatra region’s spa resorts. At first, the line travels alongside a mountain road… with a good view of the local flora. A journey on the comfortable and tram-like carriages became an indispensable means of transport for growing Tatra tourism. In 1892, the region’s first spa and spacious parks were built at Tatranská Lomnica, with government assistance. It includes a botanical garden in which numerous typical mountain plants thrive, as well as rare and endangered species. The mountain station of the Lomnitz Peak appears from within the clouds. The surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful and the ridges and peaks of the Tatra line up picturesquely. Located deep below, several small mountain lakes appear from among the rocks. What has emerged is an imposing natural paradise, the remarkable Tatra Mountains that are accessible by both road and rail.

5 Things American Tourists Shouldn't Wear in Europe

Grab some of our gear

Please Note: Young People Wear Many of These Styles Throughout Europe. These tips are geared toward 35+ year old travelers. Thanks for watching!

Grab a Wolters World Shirt

Heading to Europe & Not Sure What to Pack? Here are a few things that my fellow US travelers may want to avoid packing if they are traveling to Europe.
1. Baseball Caps: Europeans in general do not wear baseball caps, especially backwards. You would be better served to wear a more traditional hat. You will see an occasional NY Yankee hat, but why not buy the fancy hat you always wanted instead?
2. Athletic Wear: Europeans tend to wear athletic wear to do sports, not to wear around town. There is a trend of more athleisurewear in Europe, but it is not to the extent that there is in US.
3. Khakis: the omnipresent US male pant choice is not something you will see too often in Europe. Go for colored pants or jeans. If you want khaki like pants wear Chinos instead of Dockers. The pants you will see are a thinner cut or skinnier fit than in the US.
4. Oversized US University Sweatshirts.
5. Sport Shoes or High Heals: US sport shoes and white socks are not quite as popular in Europe as they are in the US. You may be better off with Urban Street shoes like Vans instead. Also, women should be careful with high heels as with all the cobblestone it is easy to hurt your ankles.

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

26 Best Places in Slovakia

Check out all the places seen in this video:

When it comes to vacation, probably few people think of Slovakia. However, this country is equipped with numerous historical sights and outdoor activities. You can expect medieval towns, dilapidated castles and tram-like landscapes. These places are just waiting for you to explore them. Slovakia also has a long and eventful past. Among other things, it was under the rule of Hungary. However, it was also conquered by the Mongols and Ottomans. Since its peaceful secession from Czechoslovakia in 1993, Slovakia is now an independent state for the first time in its history. So despite its young age, Slovakia is blessed with a rich cultural heritage. You will certainly not regret spending your next vacation in this Central European country. A relatively undiscovered destination awaits you. Therefore, we tell you the 26 best places to visit in Slovakia. #slovakia #bestplaces

BRATISLAVA - Slovakia Travel Guide | Around The World

Bratislava or Pozsony in Hungarian and Pressburg in German, is the capital and largest city in Slovakia. It has a population of almost 415,000 and is the administrative, cultural and economic centre of the country. Before 1919, it was known as Prešporok in Slovak.

Bratislava has a very pleasant medieval inner city with narrow, winding streets, a hill-top castle next to the river Danube, and many historic churches and buildings to visit. The old town is centered on two squares, Hlavne namestie (main square) and Hviezdoslavovo namestie (Hviezdoslav square, named after a famous Slovak poet). Of a rather different architectural character are some of the communist-era buildings found in the modern parts of the city; a prime example is Petrzalka housing estate, the biggest Communist-era concrete block housing complex in Central Europe, which stretches on endlessly just across the river. Move further east and there are plenty of rural places to explore. Farms, vineyards, agricultural land, and tiny villages are situated less than 50 kilometres to the north and east of Bratislava.

Bratislava Airport (ICAO: LZIB, IATA: BTS) The airport is the largest in the Slovak Republic.

Generally, Bratislava is a walking city. The center is very small and cosy and you can easily walk from one side to another in a few minutes. The city center is a pedestrian area, however, be aware of cyclists and occasional cars.

Take a stroll through the centre of the town. Bratislava has one of the smallest historical centers around but the charm is more concentrated. The streets have been completely renovated over the last ten years, bringing life back here. Since then a multitude of cafes, bars and restaurants of all kinds have opened here, accompanied by a few souvenir shops and fashion stores. On warm days almost every cafe has an outdoor seating section in the street, bustling with life and giving the city a unique cozy feeling.

When it comes to sightseeing, Bratislava Castle generally is a must and is already opened after the reconstruction. You can visit also Slavin memorial for some really astounding views of the city. It's a calm and romantic spot but beware, it can get really windy up there. The City Museum located in the Old Town Hall offers visitors climbing up the steep stairwells of the clock tower or seeing the town's historical dungeons, an exhibition that was quite outdated but still scary in 2008.

In summer, you can also visit Bratislava Zoo, providing a nice walk between the animal enclosures, the latest addition being some rare white tigers. The facilities of the zoo are slowly being renovated to attract more visitors and the zoo is a favourite for families on sunny days. A DinoPark has been constructed near the last part of the zoo where you can look at interesting prehistoric facts and large models of dinosaurs. You can also go to the Botanical Gardens of Comenius University (Botanická 3, take trams No 1, 4, 5, 9 or 12 to stop Botanická záhrada) for quiet and peaceful strolls in this green space.

For a relaxed afternoon in the park, head either to Sad Janka Kráľa park (on the right bank of the river Danube and next to Aupark shopping centre), the oldest public park in central Europe, relax at the embankments on both sides of the river or head to Horský park (Forest Park) north off Slavin memorial for a civilized stroll through the forest. There's a small café here as well as a pub, the latter mostly populated by students from the nearby campus. For a more outdoorsy experience, hop on bus No 203/213 to Koliba and walk up to Kamzík (takes about 30 minutes uphill - if you are there, definitely visit the last buffet on the left (Bufet Kamzik) for some old school buffet meals and Kamzicek - mulled wine with some spirits to warm you up) or try the newly renovated facilities of Partizánska lúka and Snežienka, all with extensive picknicking areas and loads of fireplaces for grilling. The area is several kilometers long and you can either walk here from the terminal station of bus No 212 (Vojenska nemocnica) or take a bus to Patronka and use bus No 43 driving up the area and back every 15-30 minutes (depending on time of day/year as well as weather). Only cars with a permit can enter the area but there is a parking lot at the entrance, close to a bus stop. However during weekdays the parking is often full quite often - nearest parking is Tesco HM Lamac (approx 700m from there). Snezienka's grass fields and the top of Kamzik hill are connected with a chairlift, operating (weather permitting) Thursdays through Sundays and on holidays, the price for one ride being approx. €3.

Bratislava is the home of the world famous Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra,so if you love classical music, you should consider attending one of the concerts in the historic Reduta building. For more cultural indulgence, the Slovak National Theatre offers a wide selection on ballet, opera and theatre performances.

The Tatra Mountains By Train Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination The Tatra Mountains By Train.
The High Tatra is the smallest high mountain range in Europe, a magnificent mountain landscape with majestic rocky mountains and many lakes. The High Tatra National Park was founded in 1947 and is an imposing natural paradise in the heart of Slovakia. On the banks of Štrbské Pleso is the Grand Hotel Kempinski which consists of three interconnected historical buildings. From the tower of its Honeymoon Suite is a fine view of Tschirmer Lake and the mountains of the High Tatra. The Tatra Railway travels from Štrbské Pleso Station which connects a number of the Tatra region’s spa resorts. The tram-like carriages are very comfortable and the route continues steadily uphill, the view gradually opening-up. The railway has become an indispensable means of transport for growing Tatra tourism. The development of tourism began here with the implementation of the railroad in 1871 and brought Bratislava and Vienna, closer. A regular service with the railroad began on 20th, November 1908. At Lomnitz Peak there is an overwhelming view of the vastness of the Zipsian Basin that was created during the Last Ice Age. Close by is Skalnate Pleso, a small and mysterious shimmering lake, one of more than a hundred of the region’s mountain lakes. Lomnitz Peak is often wrapped in clouds, its rock walls covered with dwarf pines that stretch down to the lake. Tatranská Lomnica is situated at an altitude of eight hundred and seventy metres on the southern foothills of Lomnitz Peak. Just six kilometres from Smokovce, this tranquil location was founded at the end of the nineteenth century and is one of the region’s earliest settlements. The Tatra Mountain experience features true nature and undisturbed tranquility as well as both a luxurious lifestyle and pure nostalgia, indigenous culture, atmospheric transport, and above all, mighty mountains!

Michała, Wieża Urbana, Teatr Państwowy, Sculpture Immaculata - Plague Column oraz East Slovak Museum - Centuries in Art.
