We're Eamon and Bec, a Canadian couple who previously lived and traveled full-time in our self converted Sprinter Van!! When the pandemic hit in 2020 we made the difficult decision to abandon our van in Africa and fly home to Canada. Now we're here... living at a cabin in the Canadian wilderness! Things are coming to a close after nearly 1 year of cabin renovations. As we prepare to head back to Morocco to rescue our van, we need to pack up the cabin and ensure it's winterized before saying goodbye for a few months!

Well, this trip really hurt my wallet and my calendar ???? But on the upside, I got to drive in some of the most beautiful off-road corners of Albania, following remote 4x4 tracks into the mountains, and camping all alone in the wilderness.

Would I do it again? Yes, but... Next time, I'll have to be A LOT more careful ????

In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!

After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.

Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

We've escaped to the wilderness & we're building our home at a cabin in the woods ... a phrase that we didn't think we'd be saying just one short year ago. But, if 2020 taught us anything it was to embrace change so with that spirit we are looking forward to all of the many blessings, lessons and love that 2021 has in store for us all.
This week we're sharing a day in the life living in Canada! With the winter season upon us we've always got snow, internet problems, and an endless list of indoor renovations to keep us busy.

How Did We Get Here?
Abandoning our Van in Africa
After an incredible 3 years of living, working, and traveling in our self converted Sprinter Van we made the very tough decision to abandon it in Africa to take a rescue flight back to Canada. As it has for all of us this global pandemic has flipped our world upside down. When our Prime Minister announced that he was sending repatriation flights over to Africa to pick up Canadians who were stuck (due to border closures) we consulted with friends and family closest to us and realized that in this time of crisis we should be back in our home country. Halting our dream of driving around the world was a hard pill to swallow which is why we knew we needed a big project to keep our mind + body busy while social distancing back here in Toronto. Enter building an off-grid tiny house on wheels!! But after nearly 6 months, we realized that our dreams of continuing van life across North America in our new van build were not a current reality with the state of the world. So, we've found ourselves pursuing something we've dreamed of since we first got together 8 years ago... a cabin in the woods ????

Who are we?

Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here:

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment. We discovered the world of “travel hacking” & became obsessed. So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world. Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went home to “normal life.” We started this travel vlog to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with this lifestyle and did everything we could to keep going. 4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time. Van life was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. ????????????

This week our unexpected road trip in our self converted campervan continues west, as we find ourselves attempting van life in Cornwall, the very south west of the UK.

We were expecting it to be difficult, especially as it was the Easter bank holiday, but what we found in this Cornish town was definitely a surprise!

Van life in the UK at holiday time can be difficult, it can be even harder when travelling with pets. We show you how we cope with travelling in a van with a dog and a cat and what we do to make it a little easier.

Also, the two minute tours are back, we show you the Cornish coastline as we walk some of the south west coast path and check out Tintagel and all its history surrounding the castle, King Arthur and merlin as well as it's modernisation with the new Tintagel bridge.

Hopefully you are enjoying this UK travel series as much as we are and we are managing to show you just some of the stunning landscapes that England has to offer in this UK travel vlog.
As usual, we have tried to include a bit of everything, some cinematic scenery mixed with our usual female van life foolery, we always love hearing what you lot think in the comments so do let us know, and as always, thank you for watching!

Follow us on our journey as we attempt to create a proper youtube travel series as we, two female travelers and vanlifers, attempt to travel across Europe in our rolling tiny home.
Hit the subscribe button to see where our DIY campervan takes us next and how this van life couple copes living in a van!

Have a look at emily's blog for her thoughts on all things van..

(this is also where you will find all our park ups and list of our film making gear)

Frontiers 194: Dick Proenneke - At Home in the Wilderness

By Rhonda McBride, KTVA.

I remember the first time I heard Dick Proenneke’s name, I said, “Dick, what?”
The name Proenneke, pronounced “preh’-neck-key,” sounded so odd.
My colleague Will Mader, our main Frontiers photojournalist, brought it up. He’s a big fan of Proenneke’s.
Will had devoured Proenneke’s journals and watched all his films. He had even made the pilgrimage to Dick’s cabin at Lake Clark National Park and Wilderness Preserve and talked with me about doing a show on efforts to preserve his log house.
Why? Alaska has lots of log cabins. Why this one?
Will convinced me this was an important story to tell.
Since Proenneke’s death in 2003, his fame has continued to grow. But curiously, he’s better known outside of our state than he is here, because his film, Alone is the Wilderness, is often featured in public broadcasting fundraisers across the country.
The more I learned, the more intrigued I became.
Proenneke, at the age of 52, went to Twin Lakes to reinvent himself, after a welding accident almost blinded him.
His mission: to find out if he had what it took to survive in the wilderness. He started by cutting down logs and used them to build a cabin, fashioned completely with hand tools – some that he made himself. Proenneke went on to live in his homemade house for more than 30 years -- and through his journals and films became a famous wilderness advocate.
Will and I began our journey towards this week’s show more than two years ago, with a trip to Twin Lakes, where we had a chance to meet people who knew Dick Proenneke. It turned out to be what I call a Chinese box story, when you open one box, only to find another and another. There were plenty of surprises in those boxes – and we were left with an interesting collection.
Who was the real Dick Proenneke?
First and foremost, he aimed to leave his mark by treading lightly on the land, to have as little impact as possible on the wilderness he called home.
Although the country was remote, he discovered how fragile it was. He often spent his days picking up trash that hunters and pilots left behind.
Another facet of Dick Proenneke: he was a recycler extraordinaire, before the term was even widely used.
He would take discarded gas cans and turn them into cookware. He would salvage parts from airplane wrecks and fashion tools. He also made very user-friendly furniture, shaped to the curves of the body.
Dick Proenneke, we discovered, was many things to many people. That’s why we decided to create a special one-hour version of the show.
Here are some of the highlights:
• Dick Proenneke's personal frontier: The story of how Dick Proenneke became a wilderness icon.
• Handmade home: Efforts to restore Dick Proenneke’s cabin at Twin Lakes.
• Keepers of the legacy, the journals: John Branson, a National Park Service historian based at Lake Clark talks about editing more than 90 pounds of Proenneke notebooks.
• Keepers of the legacy, the archive: Katie Myers, a curator for the National Park Service shows us the Dick Proenneke collection at the NPS archives in downtown Anchorage.
• Friends and neighbors: With help from the NPS and the Alaska Moving Image Preservation Association, a look at friendships Dick had with his nearest neighbors -- Jay and Bella Hammond and the Alsworth Family.
• Wilderness princess: Former NPS ranger Patty Brown talks about her friendship with Dick Proenneke, who made her feel like royalty. How she came to hop off a float plane at Twin Lakes, wearing a black evening gown.
• Friends of Dick Proenneke and Lake Clark National Park: Fred Hirschmann shares his memories of Dick and talks about the need to protect and preserve the Proenneke homestead.

We have many, many people to thank for their help: John Branson and Katie Myers at the National Park Service, the Alsworth's Lake Clark Air, the Hammond family, the Alaska Moving Image Preservation Association, Fred Hirschmann and the Friends of Dick Proenneke and Lake Clark National Park, and Bob Swerer Productions.

Perhaps the biggest joy of a project like this is all the friends you meet. We hope this show raises awareness about a great Alaskan, who is not well known in his own state. So here’s our attempt to change that.

Exploring England's Last Wilderness VAN LIFE UK | Van Life Diaries

Join us for our shakedown cruise as we road trip and explore the north east of England. Northumberland was on our radar thanks to its relative quietness. We'd heard rumours it was England's best kept secret, with a landscape of dark sky areas, deep forests and endless beaches. What better place to get lost for a while and test Sophia and all her upgrades. For the first week we stayed inland, cruising the national park and hiking our way around the insane natural beauty here.

Places We Visit:
Simonside Hills
Lambley Viaduct
Hadrian's Wall (Steel Rigg Car Park)
Kielder Forest Drive

We're Chesca and Ben and River (???? ) and we usually live full-time in our self converted sprinter van, Sophia. After a year of travelling Europe, from Spain and Portugal to the island of Sicily, the pandemic brought us back home to the UK. Along with a secret project we'd been planning! We plan to drive our tiny home on wheels all the way from Cornwall, UK to Cape Town, South Africa. Starting in late 2021, we first need to make some major upgrades to Sophia, stripping her right back to the insulation and giving her some beefy upgrades. Join us on our journey as we turn Sophia into an overlanding rig, ready to tackle whatever Africa can throw at us.

BACK TO #vanlife BABY and now we begin the difficult challenge of getting it in working order and adjusting to tiny living again ????

We're Eamon and Bec, a Canadian couple who previously lived and traveled full-time in our self converted Sprinter Van!! When the pandemic hit in 2020 we made the difficult decision to abandon our van in Africa and fly home to Canada. We ended up living at a cabin in the Canadian wilderness! But now that restrictions have eased we've made the trip back to Morocco to resume van life in Africa!! It's going to take some time to readjust to tiny living but we are SO excited to be back to van life!

I Visited the MOST ISOLATED and WILD Place In The UK (ALONE In My Old Land Rover )

I visited the most isolated and remote place in the UK, apart from Knoydart, the islands and some other nooks and krannys - its as pretty wild as you get here in the UK with its limited services and convience, making it a truly amazing and interesting place. Last leg of the NC500 - Isle of Skye next week :)

( IF YOU PLAN ON VISITING SCOTLAND OR THE NC500 - PLEASE LEAVE NO TRACE! KEEP SCOTLAND WILD! )

Thank you so much for watching! Take care & Keep Smiling :)
