SAVUTI & CHOBE (& Corona) - Lost in Africa Ep 5 (Finale)

**I must first apologise for this taking so long. I guess there was something about editing the finale that made the trip being over real, so I avoided it for months.**

We had plans to travel Africa for at least 6 months. Letting the road guide us north. I needed to fly to London at one point for a commercial, but it didn't really matter which large city I flew from, and my mom was planning to fly up to join Bianca for a mini adventure while I was away. The only deadline was for a shoot in Rwanda three months later. We wanted to reach the Gorilla's, do a lap of Lake Victoria, and then head back south through the famous reserves of East Africa. We sold most of our furniture, I sold my house, this was not going to be a short journey.

Then out of the blue a global pandemic hit, and we were stuck in the middle of nowhere. The news seemed to suggest it was out of control and we would be better off staying in the bush, but we were also scared of the borders closing around us, and we were on temporary tourist visas.

I hope you enjoy our journey!

Botswana Overland Safari | Savuti to Kasane, in the Okavango Delta | Episode 5

In this final episode of the Okavango Delta Overland Series, we pack up at the beautiful Savuti camp and start to make our way across the Chobe National Park towards Kasane.
This trip involves navigating through some really thick sandy roads, exiting Chobe at the Ghoha gate, crossing the Forest Reserve and then re-entering at the Ngoma gate. The drive along the river provides magnificent views of the Chobe river itself, and we are spoilt with beautiful sightings of Kudu, Impala, Giraffe, Zebra, Elephant, Baboon and Buffalo.
We eventually make our way into Kasane where we check into Chobe Safari Lodge for two nights - and explore the river on a sunset cruise, go tiger fishing and go on a final self drive safari to try and find the famous but elusive prides of Chobe Lions.

As our journey through this magnificent country comes to an end, we make our way back to Francistown from Kasane, and prepare for the long drive back to Johannesburg in South Africa, with one big goal in mind…to think about, and plan the next adventure!

Chobe, Savuti and Khwai 2021: Episode 6 - Camping at Magotho in Khwai PART 2

In September 2021, we embarked on a 24 day overlanding trip through Botswana!

In this episode, we stay at Magotho Camp in Khwai, which is run by the Khwai Community Trust. Magotho is very rustic with the bare minimum facilities and you need to be self sufficient to comfortably stay here.

Khwai Concession is situated between the Chobe and Moremi reserves, and therefore there are no park fees payable to stay in this area.

In saying that, it is one of the most wild, scenic and immersive wilderness experience we have ever had. Wildlife is abundant and there is never a boring drive. We have had lion, hyena, leopard, wild dog, honey badger and more RIGHT in our campsite.

Check out our video and feel free to ask more questions about the incredible Khwai area of Botswana in the comments!

Chobe, Savuti and Khwai 2021: Episode 1 - From Elephant Sands to Chobe National Park

Join our 24-day journey through some of the Botswana's best self-drive safari destinations.

Our trip kicks off with 3 nights camping at Elephant Sands. To us, Elephant Sands is magnificent, with an abundance of elephants and just enough facilities to ease you into Bots before the hardcore bush life begins.

We visit the new Elephant Sands Eco Lodge, which is a stunning new spot on the Nata list.

From there, it's off to Chobe National Park for 5 nights at the very wild Ihaha Campsite!

A long hot day on bumpy roads (Savuti Ep5)

With no camping available in Savuti we decide to head back to Kasane and spend a few days in the Chobe Waterfront. It's a long day: early morning drive, packing up camp, towing the trailer back over the sandy tracks to Kasane, then an afternoon drive along the waterfront.

In this series we are on safari filming in Savuti, Linyanti, and the Chobe Waterfront. Savuti is part of the Chobe National Park in North-Eastern Botswana. It is famous for its lions and elephants. The Savuti Channel cuts through the area between rocky outcrops then empties into the Savuti Marsh. The channel is currently dry (and has not flowed for nearly 2 decades), but there are pumped waterholes for the animals, and the roots of the large trees along the banks of the channel can reach the water deep underground.

Getting There: Our 4x4 gets stuck in the soft sand (Savuti Ep1)

Our #African #safari has begun. We are on our way to #Savuti, Botswana. We meet up in Johannesburg, then start the long drive up North. We stop over at Nata Lodge then continue driving the next day. In Kasane, we pop in at the Pangolin Hotel to say hi, then continue on the transit road through the Chobe National Park. At the Chobe River, we turn left, and drive next to the river till the tar road ends. Once we are on the dirt track we stop to let down the tyres and lock the hubs (but not before Andy gets stuck) then continue along the very bumpy road, past a dead elephant to Savuti. We get stuck in the soft sand one more time and have to use the tracks to get free. Finally we arrive at the campsite after dark, only to discover that our booking is for the following night ????‍♂️

In this series we are on safari filming in Savuti, Linyanti, and the Chobe Waterfront. Savuti is part of the Chobe National Park in North-Eastern Botswana. It is famous for its lions and elephants. Camp Savuti - A World Reawakened

The place the lions and the elephants call home and where 5 bush-luxury tents are set up to bring its guests as close as possible to nature.

Big Botswana Baecation, Part 3: Savuti Marsh, Chobe National Park (Overlanding Botswana Self Drive)

Overlanding Travel in Botswana

In Part 3 of our Big Botswana Baecation travel vlog, we head to another part of the Chobe National Park, inland this time, to the Savuti Marsh and the (currently) dry Savuti Channel. A completely different landscape to the Chobe Riverfront, but a hard slog to get there. Just a short distance of 60 km of sandy driving takes us far longer than anticipated to maneuver, but our trusty Land Cruiser 80 Series, the Wild Dog, gets us there without any hitches.

At the SKL Savuti Camps, we've been assigned a campsite right on the edge of the camp. The raucous sounds of lions and elephants at night is surprising and another first for us. We've never heard the wildlife quite so busy at night ever before.

Though we do have a dearth of new animal sightings, we do end off the trip with another, even more incredible, lion sighting, and end our journey in the Savuti area all smiles.

LETABA incredible sightings - Lost in Kruger Episode 4

We have a bumper episode for you today, probably my favourite so far! We spend a few nights in Letaba right in the middle of Kruger National Park, spending a load of time in the car, and covering the whole area South to Satara, and West to the edge of the park.

This is the final episode of the first leg of the trip, so we will be taking a short break from Kruger, but we didn't stop traveling, we just headed down to Sodwana, Hluhluwe and Manyoni. So a little change of pace next week, before we head back to Kruger for 5 more incredible weeks!

Please let us know what you think?

Tim and B

P.S. Have you seen the KrugerExplorer App? It's a superb encyclopedia and field guide to Kruger National Park that includes over 700 detailed species profiles, 70 guided routes through the park, thousands of stunning photos and the most up-to-date maps of the park currently available, and is a great resource for Kruger regulars, first time visitors or anyone who is interested in Africa's spectacular wildlife. You can tap this link to learn more on the App Store and Google Play: (it will also help support us and keep us on the road by paying us a small affiliate fee)

MOREMI Botswana I - Lost in Africa Ep 3

Join us as we head back into Moremi in the rainy season on our overlanding trip through Southern Africa. We're expecting a lot of mud, high water crossings, and hopefully some amazing wildlife viewings!

We were meant to be in the park the week before, but the water levels were so high that they had not allowed any bookings. So after a few days of sun and less rain, we decide to risk it.

There was too much in Moremi to fit into a single episode, so Episode 4 will also be in Moremi, and I will do my best to drop it soon!

Please let me know what you think?

NUTS & BOLTS!?!?!?! | Old School Adventure | Vintage Rally

What happens when you take over 40 vintage vehicles on an overland rally? Well to be honest, they break, they fall apart, the drivers and the passengers rattle to pieces! Over 4 days the Nuts & Bolts Rally is held in various locations around the country, this one in particular was held in the Western Cape. As a reliable brand that many have come to already know Terrain Tamer as well as Flashlube sent us in as the backup and recovery vehicles.

To say that there were many occasions we were needed is an understatement, from problems like engines falling out to simple fuel line and radiator cooling issues we were there to help solve the problems to allow for a smooth and easy rally.

The directions on this rally are extremely vague and definitely not for those who actually need a map to navigate. If you rely on the map you are handed out you are bound to get lost. What you need to complete this rally is all your wits about you and a sense of direction and adventure and in some cases a fire extinguisher in case your car suddenly self combusts. That's all just part of the adventure, having things go wrong and overcoming them to triumph in the end.

This is the Nuts & Bolts Rally!!!!

I hope you guys enjoy it and thanks for the support :-)
