SANDANKYO, HIROSHIMA // 三段峡 (Japan Hidden Gems)

If you're looking for things to do in Hiroshima, I would recommend adding Sandakyo to your list. It is absolutely beautiful there and the trek to Sandakyo Gorge isn't too bad either (I'm generally not into hiking but I was ok with this one - not much up/down hill and a beautiful reward awaits at the end of the 50 minute or so hike).

You could also go river kayaking like we did - there's a beginner and advanced course. Though Torii and I have been kayaking many times before, we'd never done river kayaking so we opted for the beginner course which turned out to be a little too easy, but was still nice being out on the water.

Sandakyo is the first of my JAPAN HIDDEN GEMS series which will focus on places in Japan that are lesser known or frequented. My aim is to introduce as many hidden spots as possible and hopefully inspire you to want to experience them for yourselves.

Thank you for watching :)

ONOMICHI TEMPLE WALK | THINGS TO DO IN HIROSHIMA, JAPAN | The Tao of David

Are YOU planning a Japan trip in 2018? Looking for things to do in Hiroshima? The Onomichi Temple Walk is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in Japanese culture by checking out numerous Japanese shrines and temples (over 25 in Onomichi), visit Cat Alley and take the ropeway (or walk) up Mount Senko-ji.

However! Onomichi is a typical small Japanese town (almost like a ghost town and pretty deserted) with most local shops being closed on certain weekdays, which is frustrating! To actually find some life in Onomichi head to the area clos to Onomichi Station, where you can find Onomichi U2, with places to shop and eat.

Please note the negativity and sarcasm in this video is exactly that and is a reflection of how it can feel being in Japan for an extended period! Extreme honesty is a trademark of my channel and no offence is intended - Japan is awesome!

Overall Onomichi is probably a great place to visit in Japan, just not in early February when it's freezing cold and snowing!

TAKEHARA | THE MINI KYOTO? | THINGS TO DO IN HIROSHIMA, JAPAN | The Tao of David

Are you planning a Japan Trip in 2018? Visiting Hiroshima? Looking for a day trip from Hiroshima or Things to do in Hiroshima?

Takehara is a small town to the east of Hiroshima close to Tadanoumi and Okunoshima (Rabbit Island) which is often referred to as the Mini Kyoto or Little Kyoto, full of Edo style architecture, history, shrines and temples.

A great opportunity to experience small town Japan and learn more of the history of Japan, even though everything may be closed!

Also you'll find some information on how to get a train in Japan, specifically from smaller stations!

Sandankyo Ferry in Hiroshima

Sandan-kyo (Sandan Gorge) in Akiota-cho is one of the most well-known secluded spots in Hiroshima where many people come to have fun while hiking or enjoying the hot springs. Although there are many things you can do here, I would recommend taking ferry rides here where you can pass through the gaps between the rock walls and take in unrivalled and dynamic views of the gorge. Read more about the ferries operating at Sandan-kyo and my experience of these rides in this article!

Sandankyo Hike

Today I was fortunate enough to see the true beauty of Japan's countryside. With a few friends we went out on a trip with Outdoor Rec to Sandankyo. The bus ride was about two hours to the base of the hike. The weather at first looked like it was a perfect day for outdoor activities until making it to our rest stop before continuing on with our bus ride. Despite the cold rain I and everyone else had a great time seeing the amazing water falls. This video was filmed on my iPhone 7+. Yes, I said it. It was taken on my cell phone. You don't need fancy equipment to make great videos. Let me know what y'all think!
