THE ROYAL WEDDING PART 9

CATHERINE MIDDLETON WEARS WHITE-IVORY SATIN LACE WEDDING DRESS DESIGNED BY SARAH BURTON
NOTE:

The full-skirted dress was on magnificent display when she entered the abbey. The ivory-satin bodice of Middleton's dress was cut low in the back, but lace covered her bare skin. Great care was taken in constructing the lace, a task that went to the Royal School of Needlework. According to details posted on the official royal wedding website, the workers washed their hands every 30 minutes to keep the lace and threads pristine, and the needles were renewed every three hours to keep them sharp and clean

Princess Diana exhibit offers up royal weddings in Vegas

An exhibition celebrating the life of Princess Diana is opening in Las Vegas on Friday (September 2), just days after the 25th anniversary of the royal’s death in a car crash in Paris.
'Princess Diana: A Tribute Exhibition', which has a 10-year residency by the ARIA Resort and Casino, features over 700 original artifacts, including designer evening gowns, letters, and personal items in the 10,000 square foot space.
It also features a replica of the wedding dress worn by Diana, created by Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave. Attendees can walk over the 25 foot long train, which is placed under glass.
David Corelli, the curator and producer of the exhibition, said that the room inspired them to offer guests packages to get married in the wedding area of the exhibit.
He said “Vegas is the wedding capital of the world. There are 120,000 weddings that happen in the city every year so here we have this amazing room celebrating the most famous wedding of all time with unbelievable artifacts surrounding you including this intricate recreation of Diana’s wedding dress to a tee in an art piece and we thought ‘Why not create one of those, you can only get it in Las Vegas-type moments?’”
Diana’s story is told through fashion, charity work and correspondence.
Corelli said “We walk through the whirlwind courtship of Charles and Diana and into their wedding and then kind of trace her journey of becoming a mother very quickly at the age of 21 to William and to Harry so you get that kind of very quick chronological idea of how all these events unfolded so quickly and what was happening at that time and you get the thoughts of Diana and the thoughts of Charles through different letters and correspondence and stuff like that.”
“We also have one of the only letters on record where she mentions her struggle with bulimia and mental health so a number of things that really get into how she changed the world and how she was very compassionate and generous towards others,” he added.
Parts of the proceeds for the exhibition will be going to charity.
Corelli said “I don’t think you can do anything related to her life and legacy without having that component in. It wouldn’t be really aligned with who she was so breast cancer was one of the causes that she supported in her 1997 Christie’s auction and breast cancer is the cause that we’re supporting.”
The exhibition will evolve. Corelli said they have numerous other artifacts that they will rotate over the coming years.
He said “I hope people come out of the other side of the exhibit feeling inspired to honor her legacy, you know, and just do a little bit of good in the world like she did, like she followed and that’s the message that we think people really grasp onto both on the anniversary but also just kind of every day going through this exhibit. That was really her message of love and hope.”

Diana was involved with more than 100 charities, including many who worked on behalf of homeless people, children and people with HIV and AIDS.

The Enchanting Gown of Farah Pahlavi: A Royal Wedding Fit for Shahbanu #RoyalWedding #Iran #Fashion

The Enchanting Gown of Farah Pahlavi: A Royal Wedding Fit for a Shahbanu (#RoyalWedding #Iran #History #Fashion)

Step back in time to witness the opulence of Iranian royalty through the iconic wedding dress of Farah Diba Pahlavi, the last Shahbanu of Iran. Designed by the legendary Yves Saint Laurent, this masterpiece transcended fashion, becoming a symbol of a nation's aspirations and a glimpse into a bygone era.

Unveiling the Gown:

Designed by a young Yves Saint Laurent, then at Dior, the dress was a statement of modern elegance.
Crafted from ivory silk satin, it flowed in graceful lines, adorned with delicate embroidery inspired by Persian gardens.
The crown jewel, however, was the Noor-ol-Ain tiara, commissioned specifically for the occasion, boasting a cascade of diamonds and emeralds.
This breathtaking ensemble captured the world's attention, becoming an instant fashion icon and a testament to Iranian artistry.
Beyond the Fabric:

The dress represented a bridge between tradition and modernity, reflecting the Shah's vision for Iran.
It symbolized a new era of progress and cultural exchange, showcasing Iran's rich heritage to the world.
However, the opulence of the dress also sparked criticism, highlighting the stark contrast between the royal family and the lives of ordinary Iranians.
A Legacy of Elegance:

Today, the dress stands as a historical artifact, preserved in the National Museum of Iran.
It continues to inspire designers and fashion enthusiasts, representing a timeless moment in Iranian history.
Its story reminds us of the power of fashion to capture not just a moment, but a nation's aspirations and complexities.

125 Years of Wedding Gowns

On Wed. June 22 we took a little jaunt over to Ilderton, Ontario, for a fashion show featuring a selection of wedding gowns, covering 125 years of bridal fashion.

While the set-up was a more intimate and relaxed setting than I'm used to for a fashion show, this allowed the Agricultural Society to position the runway in a way that the audience had the opportunity to see the fine detail on all the dresses. The evening was also enhanced by the accompaniment of several musical numbers appropriate for the occasion, such as 'Chapel of Love'.
