Rocky Mountaineer Train Review | Cost Breakdown | Is it worth the MONEY?

This video is about Rocky Mountaineer Train and the Journey Through the Clouds in 2023. We tell how to save money in 2024 on this amazing train journey. We give a full review of the train and its service. We explain the train's gold leaf and silver leaf service and our recommendations to save money on train travel in 2024.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 9-day/8-night train and bus journey that took us from Vancouver, Kamloops, Jasper National Park, Lake Louise, Banff National Park, and finally Calgary.

We hope you enjoy our review of the Rocky Mountaineer and some tips to save you money if you are planning this trip in 2024.

▶️ We started our channel to inspire and share our world travel lifestyle, adventures, and optimistic outlook on life with others. After completing a two-year journey in our Airstream to see all 50 states and 51 National Parks, we left to travel abroad. We have downsized our possessions and sold our home so that we can wander about with only the things in our backpacks.

We love living on the road, traveling each week to a new location. We plan to travel extensively to every part of the world. Ours is not a slow travel lifestyle but rather a vagabondish one. The goal is not to check a country off a list, but to experience it by meeting new people, seeing how others live, and making new friends. We believe in laughing, loving, and living our lives to the fullest.

We are working hard to build a beautiful website where you can get travel information about the places we have been. In addition, we post blog articles to help you travel better. Our channel is a way of augmenting that effort, so sometimes we post videos about how to travel or a vlog showing our lives on the road as we do an activity or an adventure. We also post Shorts, so check those out, too. We hope to entertain you, but most importantly, we want to inspire you and give you the confidence to plan your own adventure around the world.

THIS IS HOW YOU TRAVEL! Two Days on Rocky Mountaineer Vancouver to Banff - Part 1

What an incredible adventure! We are boarding the Rocky Mountaineer train on a two-day journey from Vancouver to Banff, Canada. This journey is called First Passage to the West. We are seated in a two-story train car with ridiculously comfortable seats and a glass top dome which offers 180-degree views... AND the lower level is a luxury dining car! Breakfast and lunch are served in the dining car and snacks and drinks are served throughout the day upstairs. We were told that the food would be delicious and it most definitely lived up to the hype!

The views... oh my gosh, the views! That is what this journey is all about! You can sit comfortably in your seat inside or can go outside to the viewing platform. If you enjoy nature, then this is the trip for you! Your eyes never get tired of looking out the windows. Mountain and trees and rivers and streams.. and wildlife when ou are lucky to catch it. We saw sheep in the mountains and salmon jumping in the rivers. I could go on and on... but you really have to see it for yourself! What we captured is beautiful, but what you see with your own eyes is even better!

We stop for the night in Kamloops, Canada and our luggage is magically in our hotel room when we arrive. Rocky Mountaineer takes care of every detail of your trip! You only travel during the day as this trip is all about the views. So you spend your evenings in great hotels along the way. Time for dinner and early to bed as are up at 6am to re-board the train for day two!

Rocky Mountaineer Train - SilverLeaf or GoldLeaf service?

Thinking of taking the Rocky Mountaineer Train in Canada and can't decide whether to choose GoldLeaf or Silver Leaf service? Maybe this little handy guide will help!

From Vancouver to Banff Aboard the Rocky Mountaineer

Insider Mike Siegel celebrated the Rocky Mountaineer's 25th anniversary by setting off on the train's First Passage to the West route, a two-day trip from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Banff, Alberta.

Mike's journey began with a day spent in Vancouver, where he took a Sea Safari zodiac boat tour with Sewell's Marina in picturesque Horseshoe Bay. Next, it was time to hop aboard the Rocky Mountaineer and admire the stunning Canadian countryside from the train's two-level, glass-domed coach (available to GoldLeaf class passengers). Mike's trip ended in Banff, where he headed straight for the Sunshine Village Ski Resort for a day on the slopes.

Get the full story of Mike's throwback train travel experience at:

Rocky Mountaineer | Vancouver to Banff, Canada | Gold Leaf | LUXURY TRAIN IN CANADA

The Rocky Mountaineer is a luxury train in Canada that visits the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

The Rocky Mountaineer typically departs from their own station downtown Vancouver. I was on Rocky Mountaineer's “First Passage to the West” which travels from Vancouver to Banff.

We heard the bad news that the rails were still closed due to the fires and we were given an updated schedule for our first day from Vancouver to Kamloops.

The next morning we were driven to the Rocky Mountaineer station, dropped off our luggage and took a shuttle to the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver for an included breakfast before we boarded our buses to Kamloops. Rocky Mountaineer hosts were on board our bus, pointing out a few of the “points of interest” long the way. We stopped at the Britton Creek Rest Stop and were given a snack bag with some refreshments before continuing on to Kamloops. Once in Kamloops we checked into our hotel which was the Delta by Marriott.

The Rocky Mountaineer GoldLeaf rail car features on the lower level an outdoor viewing vestibule, a dining area, two washrooms and business class style seating in the domed area up above. The seats are fully automated and each guest has their own controls for heat, recline, lumbar support and leg rests. The seat also features power outlets to charge devices and a tray table.

Soon after boarding and a safety briefing we on our way!

We were in the first seating for breakfast, so we went downstairs to the dining area of our train car. We started with a fresh smoothie and a croissant, followed by the Eggs Benedict. The food on board Rocky Mountaineer is so good. The dining area on our GoldLeaf car was very comfortable and was setup with partitions for proper social distancing. You were seated with your travelling party only or you could dine with others if you wished.

The Rocky Mountaineer features some great local wines from the Okanagan Valley, along with local craft beers and ciders.

Craigellachie is an important landmark along these rails as it's where “The Last Spike” was driven in to join the eastern and western railways together.

As we left Revelstoke it was time for lunch! We started off with some bread, marinated olives, mushrooms and a delicious red pepper dip. For lunch I had the steak, that was served with a chimichurri sauce, broccolini, potatoes and carrots. I also tried the herb risotto which was lovely. Dessert was a trio of chocolate which I enjoyed with a coffee and Baileys.

Crossing over the Stoney Creek Trestle we had an amazing view of the waterfall. In 1885 this trestle was originally built out of wood and was the highest timber bridge ever built. It was rebuilt in 1894 using steel and is 82 metres (or 270 feet) high above the ravine below and the trestle is 148 metres (or 486 feet) in length. Make sure you take in these views from the outdoor vestibule.

Just before we got to Golden, the skies started to break from the smoke that we had for most of our journey up to this point. We made our way up the Kicking Horse Canyon along the Kicking Horse Creek which offered some amazing photo opportunities to catch the engines up ahead.

This part of the Trans Canada Highway was known as one of the most deadliest because of the grade, sheer drops and being only two lanes with blind switchbacks. They straightened out a portion of it by building a large bridge which is the same height as the Stoney Creek Trestle to give you some context of how high that trestle was that we crossed over earlier.

After passing through Field, we travel through the historic Spiral Tunnels, once we've exited the tunnel you can see where we entered the tunnel down below.

The views as we neared Banff are so picturesque. The mountains and the bright blue waters were just stunning.

Gena and Rob who were our hosts did an amazing job and it was definitely a difficult good bye. The Rocky Mountaineer truly is an unforgettable journey.
