CARNIVAL IN RIO IN 1 MINUTE

Rio in carnival was amazing and a unique experience that I so recommend when traveling around the world - high on the bucket list. I hope this short video will inspire you to go asap. The best parts are the block parties on the streets & beaches for sure ! I was really happy when I encouraged some locals to first play 'Lepo Lepo' and then 'Ai se eu te pego', a memory I will never forget in my life !

Things you should know before going to carnival in Rio, read here:

Is Buenos Aires safe? (Nearly everyone gets it very WRONG)

#argentina #travel #buenosaires
Is Buenos Aires safe to visit? How dangerous is the capital of Argentina?
How the crime rate of Buenos Aires compares with large US or European cities? What are the bad areas and the safe areas of Buenos Aires?

Discover all that about the largest city of Argentina in this video, and much more! (Always using reliable data!)

Useful links:
1st – 1st – Buy travel insurance that also covers theft-related expenses. Although it is often very inexpensive to purchase such insurance in Europe (even in the most dangerous cities of some European countries), many people ignore this small precaution and end up disappointed. I recommend the company Ekta:

2nd – Book a transfer in advance (both from the Ezeiza or Aeroparque Airport) to your final destination. You can use Get Transfer for that:

3rd - Viator has some GREAT tourist guides to save your time and show you the greatest parts of the city (with safety!):

4th - For finding some of the best hostels in Argentina (and there are some nice ones in Buenos Aires!), I use Hostelworld:

???? VIDEO EXCERPT ????
Is Crime High in Buenos Aires?
If the comparison with Europe makes Buenos Aires look violent, it may pale in comparison to the US. While the United States has a homicide rate slightly higher than Argentina (4.96 homicides per 100K people), it would be fair to compare Buenos Aires with its American, metropolitan counterparts.

When we talk about other modalities of crime, like theft, robbery, or kidnapping, the situation is similar: Buenos Aires is dangerous when compared to European cities, but relatively safe compared to large US cities.

Buenos Aires, like every south-American large city, is very unequal.
Here is a shocking fact: Buenos Aires has 48 barrios (local districts). During the year 2019, 16 of these districts, one-third of the total, never had a single homicide. Meanwhile, a single barrio called Barracas had 17 murder cases. To put it into perspective, Madrid, with over 3 million residents, had only 34 homicides in 2021.

Barracas has only 77 thousand residents, meaning a homicide rate of 22 murders per 100 thousand residents, comparable to very violent cities in places like Mexico, Colombia, or Brazil.

So, bottom line: Is Buenos Aires safe? No, but also yes. The Argentinian capital is dangerous if compared to Europe, relatively safe when compared to the US or Brazil, but it is also very unequal, with some districts as safe as Europe and others as dangerous as Mexico. Now time to discover the BAD and the GOOD districts...

Surfing BARRA DA TIJUCA (Inside Brazil's Former CT Venue)

SURFING BARRA DA TIJUCA!! In this video, I was lucky enough to go and explore Rio De Janeiro, a city I’ve wanted to visit for a long time. While it’s no secret the city has waves, the place is mostly overlooked by the traveling surfer coming from overseas. So I was super intrigued to find out what surfing in Rio was actually like, and I hope this video sheds some light on what to expect from the place and how to make a Rio trip happen. Enjoy!

Improve Your Surfing Online:
Beginner Course - If you’re a beginner surfer, I think it’s important to follow up after your first lesson, get in the water as much as possible, and basically, carry on learning. But if you don’t live near the ocean or can’t find the time, it can be tricky to do! However, my friends at House of Surf have developed an online course that takes you back over the basics (that you’ve learned in your first surf lessons) and paves the way for progression.
- Beginner Surf Course -

Surf Fear Course - Anyone who knows me will know firsthand that I hate big waves, and to be honest, it’s probably something that’s holding my surf progression back. Confidence is massive in surfing, and if you’re new to it, fear can stop you from progressing and surfing in the places you want to. Thankfully my friends over at HOS have developed a course that takes you through various breathing techniques and scientifically backed lessons on how to control your breathing and feel massively more confident in the water. While the Course might not turn you into Nathan Florence, it definitely gives you some super helpful information for feeling more confident in bigger surf.

Travel Essentials:
Wise Card - Spending money overseas can come with its fair share of annoying fees and complications. Luckily, someone created Wise, which means you can transfer money between currencies, send money to friends with foreign accounts and spend money without those pesky transaction fees!
-

World Nomads Insurance - Getting insured for traveling long-term and going surfing can be tricky. My go-to is World Nomads insurance; they make it super easy to keep extending my policy, and I have had no trouble with payouts when things have gone wrong!

RAW Surf Travel || Barra da Tijuca (Rio de Janeiro) || Episode 4

Last year, I spent 2 months in Brazil. I had a sick time and one of the reasons I wanted to go, was to debunk the myth of Brazil having weak crowded waves. Turns out there's heaps of fun waves and you can even find an uncrowded bank in Rio ;)

Enjoy this raw uncut clip from my time surfing the former CT venue Barra da Tijuca.

Mayan Ruins- Cinematic film ????????

With a cinematic cover of the Tulum and Chichen Itza ruins, this video is meant to invoke the emotions of being awestruck that I felt when I was there.. Hoping to inspire others to visit these places. Thank you for watching :)

This is the 3rd video of my Yucatan travel film series. I recently visited the Yucatan peninsula for 7 days and explored it with my good friend, Anna, going to Cancun, Tulum, Akumal, Playa del Carmen and just about every other cool place we could cover in our time-limit.

Tulum
Tulum is the site of a pre-Columbian Mayan walled city and served as a major Mayan port. The main building is a large stone structure called El Castillo (castle), perched on a rocky cliff above the white sand beach and turquoise sea. Tulum was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya; it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico

Chichén Itzá
Chichén Itzá is a complex of Mayan ruins on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. A massive step pyramid, known as El Castillo or Temple of Kukulcan, dominates the ancient city, which thrived from around 600 A.D. to the 1200s. Graphic stone carvings survive at structures like the ball court, Temple of the Warriors and the Wall of the Skulls

Tips on visiting both these spots
1) Unless you're a Mexican national, DO NOT visit on Sundays. Entry is free for Mexicans on Sunday and things can get incredibly crowded
2) As with every other touristy place, going in the morning is the best way to avoid heavy crowds. Especially true for Chichen Itza. This video was shot when the park opened and there were still a lot of people

Tips on going to Tulum
1) If you are driving to Tulum, there's a good chance they will try to charge you fake extra fees for parking at the gate of the park. We just backed up and found a free spot less than 100 m away from the gate
2) Try to get to the beach and the prettiest parts first before the crowd gets there

Tips for Chichen Itza
1) Go early!
2) Read about the history of the ball courts before you visit
3) If you are driving there, watch out for (almost) hidden speed-bumps on the highways
4) There is a time-zone difference as you get to Chichen Itza from Quintana Roo. So keep that in mind when planning your trip.
