Riga is not only the capital of Latvia, modern and cosmopolitan, but also strongly influenced by German architecture and culture. Tamina Kallert and her cameraman and travel companion Uwe Irnsinger discover what the Latvian metropolis has to offer over two days. This city is full of contrasts: pretty and rough - old and modern, says Tamina. They are fascinated by the completely refurbished old town as well as by Europe's greatest density of Art Nouveau with its unique facades and the old wooden houses on the outskirts of the town centre, which are rich in contrast.

This is why you NEED to visit RIGA | Europe's MOST eccentric city (VLOG)

Come and join me in exploring the beautiful capital city of Latvia, Riga. I had absolutely no expectations for Riga, just a spontaneous £4.99 outbound flight.

I was blown away by the architecture, the beauty and eccentricity of some of the buildings, such as House of the Blackheads and Riga Doms Cathedral. Combined with this, narrow streets, an abundance of colour and array of history, buildings such as The Three Brothers added a wealth of intrigue and history to the city.

I visited other interesting sites such as the Freedom Monument and Riga Central Market, considered as possibly the biggest market in Europe.

I hope you enjoyed this video, if you did feel free to join me on my other adventures. It would be great for you to come along. See you next time! :)

The train to Nowhere, Latvia. Will I find my way out of this tricky situation? Riga - Ludza (???)

This is exactly why last-minute decisions can be dangerous :) I decided to jump on a train out of Riga tonight and head as far east as I could go. The final stop of the train was right on the Russian border, but I didn't see much in the way of accommodation there, and with overnight temperatures plunging, I decided not to risk it. So the plan was to get off at the penultimate stop, Ludza, which also happens to be the oldest town in all of Latvia. My 'plans' didn't quite work out as I expected though, and but for the help of a friendly local, I might not be sitting writing this today :D

How To Have An Amazing Day In Riga, Latvia

Riga, Latvia is a popular stop on a Baltic cruise and there's a lot you can see in one day. In this video, we spend the day exploring Riga for the first time and seeing all the top attractions the city has to offer. We begin at Dome Square in the heart of the Old Town and head down a skinny street of stars to St. Peter's Church, which is almost as old as the city of Riga itself. Next we stop for some good luck at the Bremen Town Musicians, one of the most popular places to take a photo in the city. Next is House of the Blackheads, an absolutely gorgeous merchant house that has been a pillar of Riga society for centuries. You can see the medieval cellars and gloriously rebuilt exterior. Right outside, don't miss the marker dedicated to Riga's first Christmas tree too! Later we go to Riga's Central Market, which is the largest market in Europe - yes, all of Europe. One glimpse will tell you why: it's housed in five repurposed Zeppelin hangars. Extremely unique and a must see in Riga. Visit the Centrālais Food Court here for great food options that are cheaper than you'll typically find around the Old Town. To end the night, we head to a subterranean restaurant called Rozengrāls that has been around since 1293! Here you'll find the city's first well, caverned ceilings, and everything lit by candles. We try Riga Black Balsam, a traditional and much beloved Latvian drink with a secret recipe. It was once used to cure Catherine the Great of an ailment! This place oozes atmosphere and fun and we highly recommend a visit.

Don't visit the Baltics - Latvia, Gaiziņkalns Hill, Estonia, Tallinn and Suur Munamägi 4k

For us Lithuanians Latvia and Estonia is always a countries which don't have big sense to visit - as it would be for person from North Dakota visit South Dakota or North Italian visit south Italy and etc, what is basically cool but not something special. Any ways if you want get to the north, to Finland you must cross Baltics: Lithuania (Lietuva), Latvia (Latvija) and Estonia. As not often we visiting nabour countries we decide travel through not so touristic places and see highest hills around, so no for Riga, and yes for Gaizinkalns and Suur Munamägi. And Tallinn? There is the ferry to Helsinki, mission impossible go another way.

RIGA Latvia | First Impressions

Our first day in Riga and we were most impressed with this interesting and varied city. We spend the day getting to know the old, medieval town and the city centre, visiting the major sights and getting a good feel for this laid back, understated place (The Art Nouveau district is definitely NOT understated but that is for the following video!)

Come with us on a walking tour around Riga and check out this amazing place to visit.

Some of the famous sights of Riga we visit are :- Riga Castle, Daugava River, The House of The Blackheads, The Powder Tower, The Cat House.

And as we often do, we finish the day by sampling a few of the excellent Latvian beers!

BBC Travel Show - Riga's soviet past (week 10)

youTube travel vlog Riga Latvia trip April 2023

This was my trip to Riga end of April, what an amazing city with lots of history.
The people are so friendly and helpful, the city has the largest collection of
wooden houses and art neuvo buildings in europe.
plenty of bars and restaurants to suit all needs along with many walkable parks. Streets are cobbled and beautiful to look at from every angle so make
sure to venture down these side streets.
I found using the BOLT app was very useful in all my trips, this way you already pay upfront so no hidden charges, taxis are great but can be overpriced for tourists.
I also use a Revolut card, just makes it easier to exchange currancy through the app which helps you spend only what you need with the best exchange rate, most places tap and go.
i spent 2 and a half days in Riga and for me wasn't enough! i just needed another day so will be going back for sure.
im new to all this vlogging lark so be gengle but love making the videos,
Please check out my other trips and hopefully would be enough for you to subscribe and follow my european journey!.
Please keep an eye as ive planned and booked for many more trips this year which could open your eyes to venturing across Europe aswell.
Thank you for viewing my videos and hopefully see you soon!

Latvia VLOG - Riga (2023)

????After a few days spent in Vilnius, I traveled to Riga, the capital city of neighboring Latvia. I did not have high expectations, to be honest. And I wasn't too surprised when I left the bus and stepped on Latvian soil. The first impression was not good at all. As I said in my vlog, I thought I had been dropped into the 1970s USSR. Luckily, it was just a bad first impression.

As I walked from the bus station to the city center, I figured out that Riga is not bad at all. After a few hours - I thought it was awesome. After the whole stay in the Latvian capital - I thought it was magnificent. And it really is... The House of the Blackheads, Old Town, Bastejkalna park and Freedom Monument are so close. On top of that, you can relax next to the Daugava river, whether it is day or night.

I'm a bit surprised we don't hear more about this lovely Baltic state. If you are looking for a moderate climate during hot summer nights, look no further. Riga is expecting you.

Historic City of Riga - UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Historic City of Riga in Latvia is a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded as a trading city, it boomed in the late 19th century and at one point was the fourth largest city in the Russian Empire! With the expansion came wealth, and many rich locals constructed grand new buildings in the then-popular Art Nouveau style, and to this day Riga has one of the highest concentration of Art Nouveau buildings anywhere in the world! There's also an interesting old town too, so let's take a look.
