What You Need To Know BEFORE You Ride The LAOS CHINA RAILWAY (don't make this mistake!)

This was one of the nicest and budget friendly high speed trains I have ever taken! The Laos China Railway was inaugurated in December of 2021 and has made a HUGE impact on Laos's transportation systems. What used to be a 5hr bus ride can now be done in a 1hr train ride through the mountains (literally). But before you think about taking this railway journey, there are some things that you should know and some things are quite unexpected, so I hope you will find this video helpful in planning your trip and knowing what not to pack in your suitcase to avoid any troubles!

NEW BUDDYMOON MERCHANDISE AVAILABLE! Check out our store -

BUDDYMOON DAY 538/1000 (VLOG 150)

We boarded a $15 first class China-Laos bullet train from Vang Vieng to Vientiane. This bullet train was designed and funded by china in order to increase trade between the two countries as well as increase Laos tourism.

This China-Laos Bullet train runs from the town of Boten in China all the way to Vientiane in Laos, so we will only be traveling a portion of the train. It's said that is cost $6 billion in order to build the train and there are plans to have it run all the way to Bangkok Thailand.

We have been on many trains in Asia but many of them have not been first class experiences. Therefore, we wanted to experiance the thrill of being in first class on a bullet train designed by China.

LAOS-CHINA High-Speed Train to VIENTIANE ????????

After a lovely start to our trip in Laos, exploring the city of Luang Prabang, seeing the gorgeous waterfalls and eating delicious local Lao foods - it’s time to head to the capital. We are so excited to be doing this trip on the brand-new Lao-China high-speed railway.

This train actually goes all the way from China, with future plans potentially even involving stations in Singapore. Today, we are simply taking it from Luang Prabang to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. With ticket sales being a bit more confusing than we are used to for this train, and only Chinese or Lao nationals being able to purchase the tickets, we were just happy to get our hands on some! The trip was gorgeous and SO much faster than the other option… taking a 10-hour bus!

Travel: Take a train ride on the USD$6b Laos-China railway

Stunning vistas, long tunnels through mountains. Demand is high for rides out of the Laos-China Railway in Vientiane. Launched recently in December, the USD$6 billion railway is a key project connecting inland China with Southeast Asia under its Belt and Road initiative. ST's Indochina Bureau Chief Tan Hui Yee reports.

DISASTER on the Laos China high SPEED TRAIN

We had high hopes for the Laos China high speed train, unfortunately, it was a complete disaster!

We also spent 3 weeks in Laos travelling around the country, but it did not go to plan, for many reasons!

In today's video, we explain the reasons why our trip was cut short and why our experience on the Laos China high speed train, did not go well at all!

CHINA built a 'Bullet Train' in LAOS and we took a ride on it! Luang Prabang to Vientiane

Also watch this vlog in Kannada:

From Luang Prabang, we took the Lao-China railway train to Vientiane. It is a high speed train that covers the 300 km route in just about 1.5 hours. The tickets were not cheap, but definitely more value for money than taking a bus or minivan on the same route which takes nearly 8 hours in bad road conditions (especially in the rainy season when the road route has many landslides). We managed to buy tickets in the city centre (near old quarter) for the Lao bullet train two days in advance with the help of a local (you can even buy it yourself directly at the train station outside the city) because foreign debit and credit cards are currently not accepted. You can only pay by OnePay or Union Pay... no Mastercard/Visa/Amex/Rupay for now.

The Boten–Vientiane railway is the Lao section of the Lao–China Railway (LCR), running between the capital Vientiane and the northern town of Boten on the border with Yunnan, China. The line was officially opened on 3 December 2021. A collaboration project between Laos and China, the line's northern end is directly connected to the Chinese rail system at Mohan in Yunnan, through the Yuxi–Mohan railway, and has provisions in the south to link with the Bangkok–Nong Khai high-speed railway in Thailand and possibly all the way to Singapore via HSR. The railway ends at Vientiane South cargo station. The Boten–Vientiane railway is an integral section of the central line on the Kunming–Singapore railway, and was constructed as part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Taking slower train from Vientiane to Luang Prabang

Hi folks, NatNomad here. An ex-Buddhist monk from Laos with a big dream of seeing the world. Throughout my time for over 10 years being a monk I kept asking myself one question What life is like out there beyond the monastery? and because of this question alone made me take a big step in 2014 when I finally said goodbye to my wonderful monastic life.
And now I'm doing what I've always wanted to do. Though I am not quite sure if I can say that I'm living my dream but you know what I'm loving my new adventure.
Please make sure to stick with me so we can explore new exotic places together.
Let the adventure begins!
Thanks so much for your support.

If you're heading to Laos soon, we hope that this vlog helped answer some of your queries and concerns. :) Feel free to drop your questions below & we'll do our best to answer you asap.

Our first experience on the LCR was in October 2022. We took the train 3 times, as we travelled from Vientiane to Vang Vieng and then to Luang Prabang, before heading back to the capital of Laos to fly home.
The Boten-Vientiane line was launched in Dec 2021, and I must say that my experiences at the LCR stations and trains exceeded my expectations of a typical rail ride. :P
