Gratitude & Acknowledgement:
Thank you to all the Palauans who took part in this video sharing their culture to simply helping me learn. This is what cultural immersion is all about and grateful to all of you.

Why Living Like A..?:

Living Like A Palauan was an idea I had prior to Palau had I immersed myself deeply and naturally into the culture. And because I did, that idea quickly took off with the video project underway Mid November until this week.

But Living Like A.. didnt begin in Palau, it actually began 5 years ago in the Kingdom Of Tonga????????, where I was so blessed to be able to stay in a village on the island group of Vava'u.

Little did I know, my curiosity of the ways Tongans live their lives allowed me to, in the short time that i stayed, LIVE LIKE A TONGAN.

Living Like A Tongan was my very first true culturally immersive experience in my travels and to this day is very special to me, as well as the thousands of Tongans that watch it. It opened the door to a whole new inner passion of mine and that was learning about world cultures. ????

Living Like a Tongan happened to be one of my biggest Youtube videos and has beautifully brought so many proud Tongans to my video and to my channel, thanking me for loving their culture and taking the time to show the Tongan way.

Living Like A Palaun is very much all of this with the same heart, love, and passion for culture. The only difference now, my camera gear is far better and my storytelling and post editing skills are through the roof.

Which means, the ability to extend the voices of Palau and represent a whole culture is far greater. ????????

Escape to Pukapuka: Discovering the Cook Islands' Most Secluded Paradise

Pukapuka: The Quintessence of Paradise - Discovering the Cook Islands' Hidden Jewel

Prepare to be enchanted by Pukapuka: The Quintessence of Paradise, a video journey to one of the world's most breathtaking and unspoiled destinations. Located in the Cook Islands, Pukapuka is not just an island; it's the embodiment of paradise, a dreamlike escape far removed from the hustle of modern life.

This captivating exploration begins with the island's crowning glory - its stunning lagoon, renowned as one of the most beautiful in the world. The crystal-clear waters, fringed by pristine sands, create a vision of serenity and beauty that truly defines the word paradise.

But Pukapuka's allure extends far beyond its physical beauty. Its remoteness is its charm, offering a genuine escape. Situated in the far northwest of the Cook Islands, closer to other island nations than to its own capital, Rarotonga, Pukapuka is a world unto itself.

We delve into the rich tapestry of Pukapukan culture, a unique blend influenced by neighbouring Samoa, Kiribati, and Tokelau. This cultural mosaic is vividly reflected in the Pukapukan language, a distinct dialect that stands apart from Cook Islands Maori, adding to the island's mystique.

Pukapuka: The Quintessence of Paradise is more than a travel documentary; it's an invitation to experience a way of life untouched by time. It's a journey into the heart of a community that embodies the spirit of the Pacific, where tradition and tranquillity reign supreme.

Join us as we uncover the secrets of Pukapuka, where every moment is a reminder of the sheer beauty of simplicity. This video is a celebration of an island that ticks every box for paradise and creates new ones.

Sailing across the EQUATOR! Tuvalu to Kiribati

Crossing the EQUATOR! - Tuvalu to Kiribati -6 days AT SEA EP61 || Sailing the Pacific

Sadly , it's our last day in Tuvalu.
We hire a very bouncy moped and check out out with immigration and customs.
We stop off at the local Maneaba ( meeting house) where the Vaitupu community are celebrating their ‘Happiest Day’ with much singing , dancing and laughter.

After a peaceful final night at anchor in Funafuti, we complete our final checks and start our trip north for the 700 nm trip to Kiribati. We have a wonderful crossing with calm seas and just enough wind to sail.
King Neptune arrives in time to conduct our Equator Crossing Ceremony as we transition from Pollywogs to Shellbacks!

????‍❤️‍????About us :
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you.
In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve.
We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle.
So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles.
We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second.
We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel!
Subscribe now and join us as we continue our salty travels around the world.

Uwapei song - About a navigator who lose the course …

This song is the oldest song known by the people of the Uwapei tribe on the tiny remote Faraulep Atoll in State of Yap, Micronesia. The song is about the navigator Rongait and a voyage under which he lose the course and have to ask the spirit of Uwapei for help.

The traditional god Uwapei could come as a bird and spoke with opposite words, meaning that she said the opposite of what she meant. The song is made to Rongait by his wife.

Thirty years ago only few men could remember the song. No one knew how old this song was, but old people said that the navigator Rongait and the legendary fisherman Jaimag were cousins.

The song in this video was recorded I 1986 by the Danish writer and photographer Peter Bang with an old handhold tape recorder, the microphone was damaged by sand and seawater.

Stan, a man from on Pigue Maal (the birds island / the old name for Piig Island), translated the song into English:

I live on the birds island in Faraulep Atoll,
and here I fell in love with Rongait,
because he never slept quietly on his mat.
Every evening he went to the beach at the men's house,
to watch the sunset and look at the sky
to predict how the weather would be the next day.
One evening after Rongait had gone back to his house he looked at the stars he had to follow to get to Woleai Atoll.
When he had seen Bhu (Crus stars) go down he was ready to leave.
Rongait told the young men at the birds island,
that he wanted them to carry his canoe to the water.
And then he went to Uwapeis house to ask for help for the journey.
After Rongait had spoken to Uwapei,
he went on board his canoe ready to sail.
And once again he spoke to Uwapei and asked for help.
He said the magic words and beat clip-clap with the white palm leaves,
so Uwapei could come to him and tell him the course he had to follow to Woleai.
Uwapei came to Rongait, and she spoke to him,
and she said that she in no way wanted to help Rongait on his journey.
Rongait was happy and felt it would be a good trip,
And then he let the wind fill the sail on his canoe.
As Rongait reached Woleai he spend one night there,
and the people on Woleai feasted and danced for him.
After the party, he decided to return to Faraulep,
But he forgot to talk to Uwapei,
and on the way home he lost his course.
Instead of getting to Faraulep then Rongait reached Faiyew (the old name for Gaferut, a magic and isolated uninhabited island with strong spirits).
Here he prayed to Uwapei again for help.
And Uwapey came to Rongait and said,
that she in no way wanted to help him,
and Rongait was happy.
When he left Faiyew Uwapei showed him the direction he should follow.
By following this course, he came directly to Faraulep Atoll,
and all his family and all his friends were very happy,
when he returned to the Birds Island.
