Return To The Belarus Chernobyl Zone...With Shopping Bags ????????

???????? Two months ago on a cold morning I headed into the radioactive Chernobyl forests north of the Belarusian town of Vetka. Now I was back to re-trace the people who had invited me into their home and generously shared their food with me. But this time I was bringing shopping...

Searching For The Chernobyl Resettlers

???????? After all of my trips to the Belarus side of the disaster it was finally time to travel to the source of the tragedy itself, Pripyat and the Chernobyl exclusion zone. Whilst there my guide Igor treated me to the world's greatest invention, 'Vodka cakes'. Oh and we also heard some stories from the re-settlers.

I used a tour company for my trip called Solo East. This is their website. I can highly recommend them.

The Journey Is Over ????????

This journey that started for me aged 17 in Anna’s Russian class has now come to an end. I have been officially banned from Russia for a period of three years. What great memories were created. From the villages of the Komi republic to the mountains of Dagestan, to the Siberian forests and Baikal, we have experienced so many adventures. I'll always remember the amazing Russian people I met with great fondness but it's time to to bring the curtain down.

Glory to the USSR!

Stranded In Russia's Creepiest Village

???????? People often ask how I get around Russia, well often I hitchhike from town to town. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes I discover a weird place I'd rather not be in...

Drinking Vodka In A Soviet Apartment...What Could Go Wrong?!

???????? Nothing better than getting some vodka in and chatting shit with your mates. Especially when it's in a Soviet apartment.

Посёлок Призрак Солнечный. Белорусская Чернобыльская зона. The Belarus Chernobyl Zone

So many vloggers have made the trip to Pripyat to make Chernobyl films that it has become an embarrassing cliche. So I and @MAGASHOWBY decided to enter the real unexplored Chernobyl zone instead. The one across the border in Belarus. No tour guides here. Just we and the wild animals that come across our path. Join us on a joint journey through the Zone.

Kolya asked for a lift - Коля попросил подвезти

For more about Kolya, please visit the dedicated channel

(Activate subtitles in English or Russian)
Kolya, a Belarusian collective farm pensioner, lives in a village, that was heavily affected by rainfall 100 miles downwind from Chernobyl, during the reactor meltdown. The villagers were offered to resettle somewhere else, but Kolya stayed.

In order to visit his friends in the neighboring villages, he has no other means than to walk and hitchhike. This is how he first met Bald and Bankrupt, from the famous travel vlog. The same happened to us one year later. Kolya’s life environment and statements root back in Soviet historiography mostly unknown in the West. Discussing with him is always a delight.

The Village That Disappeared ????????

???????? Allow me to share with you some of Belarus' history; Khatin and the story of the village the invaders wiped off the map, Studenka where Napoleon's Grande Armee met a watery end and the story of the European Stork who call Belarus home every summer. Oh and of course we found time for a quick look at a small town's 'wall of hotties'. This is part 1 of a two part journey.

Interrogation in Belarus village next to the border zone ????????

Cheching out village of Grabovka approximately 100 km north of Chernobyl - one train stop before border zone forbidden to enter without special permit. Being interrogated by local administrative staff when looking how to get into an abandoned building.

Vasya and Matrona - Chernobyl zone residents

Vasya and Matrona are one of the first people to have returned after the evacuation back to the Exclusion zone. Today, Vasya being the youngest Chernobyl zone resident acts as unproclaimed head of the village where he lives helping and taking care of the others. Despite hard life conditions, they plan to stay home, in Chernobyl, as long as they can.

GUIDES ABOUT CHERNOBYL BABUSHKAS

Today we have one more video from NATALI LADY ADVENTURE and this time about self-settlers (Chernobyl babushkas).

For those who doesn't know who are self-settlers - “Self-settlers” or in Ukrainian “Samosely” are residents of the 30-kilometer Zone of Alienation surrounding the most heavily contaminated areas near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Belarus and Ukraine.

The majority of the samosely are elderly people, almost all of them are women, who made their home in the area prior to the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, although some are disaffected settlers from outside the region.

Radioactively Yours,
