Relaxing TRINIDAD HAIRCUT with CELEBRITY HAIRSTYLIST in Port of Spain, Trinidad!!

????????CANDICE:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

If you know me, you know that I love to start my trips feeling fresh and clean with a haircut by a local. In Trinidad and Tobago, I had to get a haircut from the top hair stylist in the country!

Candice Mohan is the top hair stylist in Trinidad and Tobago, and she just happens to be dating a good friend of mine, Chef Jason Peru!

⚽️BOL:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:
????????CHEF JASON PERU:

Candice does everything—hair, makeup, nails, and more. She also have a custom clothing line! It’s a modern Hindi clothing line. In the reception area is a large photo of Candice with her daughter.

There’s also a bar where you can enjoy refreshments and a bite to eat, and a shop area where there are clothes on racks and a platform where you can stand on to get fitted.

I wanted a full shave on my head and a trim on my beard. She made sure to shave it in the different directions it grows and trimmed my mustache as well. Then, she worked on shaping it!

I’ve done so many things with my hair and beard over the years. I’ve had a 100-day-old beard that was super long, I’ve had a mohawk, I’ve shaved half my head, and I’ve even had long hair and even braids at one point!

The hair on my head and beard grow so fast. After two days, it starts getting long again, so I have to shave every other day!

After applying some alcohol to my newly shaved neck, Candice added shaving cream to my head. It was a little warmer than usual. After shaving me once, she went back in for round 2!

She used a new disposable razor, which she uses due to the pandemic. Candice has a lot of celebrity and VIP clients. Then, it was time for a quick rinse and a head massage. Her rubbing the temples and the back of my neck felt amazing!

Next, Candice put a hot towel on top of my head and on the sides of my face. Finally, she gave me a head massage with natural mineral oil.

She was getting rid of all the tension in my neck and massaged my beard. What a great experience!

The Ultimate TRINI DOUBLES TOUR in Port of Spain!! 5 Doubles BACK TO BACK in Trinidad!!

????????DAVID:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

After nearly two weeks of traveling around Trinidad and Tobago, my time in this beautiful island nation was finally at an end. But I couldn’t leave without eating doubles one last time! Come with me as I go on an epic Trinidadian street food tour and eat lots of doubles before my flight home!

Doubles are a staple in Trinidadian cuisine. They’re the ultimate street food on the island. Their base is a bara, which is a fried, golden-brown flatbread. It’s then topped with chana (chickpeas) and gravy, and sometimes various chutneys, vegetables, and meats. Then, they add another bara!

⚽️BOL:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

Joining me on my final Trini food adventure was my friend David from Foodie Run TT. Our first stop was Sauce Team, where they made me a doubles topped with chana, cucumber, and chadon beni sauce, which is made from culantro.

Their toppings also include tamarind sauce and roasted pepper sauce. They also sell pies and even triples! The doubles and pies cost $6 TTD, while the triples are $8 TTD.

It was so soft yet crispy, and I loved the pepper. Eating doubles gets messy, but it’s so delicious. I loved that the chana was perfectly cooked. They weren’t too hard or too soft. It’s so good, you have to lick the paper after!

Then, I watched them make an aloo pie using the same toppings. It looked delicious! After that, we drove to a doubles and pies stand on the western peninsula run by a husband-and-wife team. I was told their pepper sauce is really hot!

I’d never been to this part of the island yet. I could see lots of small towns and fishing villages.

We arrived at Western Peninsula Doubles and Indian Delicacies. There, they offer lots of chutneys and sauces, including coconut chutney, roast pepper, and masala chili.

They have one called “mother-in-law,” which contains carrots, hot peppers, garlic, and more. It looked really hot! They open at 5:30 in the morning and they’re popular, so get there early before they sell out!

I got a triples with chana, pepper sauce, coconut chutney, roast pepper, tamarind, and masala chili. There were seven condiments in total!

It was really hot. I loved the sweetness of the tamarind and the denser baras. The combination of flavors and textures was excellent. Then, we washed it down with some sorrel-tamarind juice. It was very sweet and a bit tangy!

I bought a jar of the coconut chutney and the roast pepper pepper for $30 TTD each. The people there were so nice!

Then, we headed back to a suburb of Port of Spain to a doubles place called Castro’s. It’s been open for 27 years, and at this location for 7.

My doubles came topped with chadon beni, cucumber, chana, and mango! It was hot. There was more heat than sweetness, and there were lots of vibrant colors!

The cuisine here is a wonderful fusion of Caribbean, Indian, African, Chinese, Portuguese, and Latin American. Then, we headed east from Port of Spain to Ken’s Hot Doubles and Pies in Curepe.

It’s a super popular place that’s been open for 18 years. I could see them making doubles and aloo and cheese pies. The people there were so amazing.

They gave me tons of fillings. It was very creamy and tasty. I loved the crunch of the cucumber. It was lighter in spice and sweeter!

Finally, we drove to the airport and got doubles at S. Hanif & Sons in the food court. This one was lighter than the others. The tamarind was really nice! I loved that all of these doubles were different from one another!

Night TRINIDADIAN STREET FOOD TOUR of Ariapita Ave & Savannah Strip in PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad!!

????????CHEF JASON PERU:
????????DAVID:
???? Visit My Travel Blog:

After landing in Trinidad and Tobago, I met up with a couple of friends to go on an amazing Trinidadian street food tour of Port of Spain at night.

After night fell on this beautiful island, I linked up with my pal Chef Jason Peru, who would be with me for the rest of my trip trough Trinidad and Tobago. Our first order of business was exploring the street food stands along Ariapita Avenue! The street never sleeps!

⚽️BOL:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

Our first stop was Doubles Den, which sells doubles. Doubles are flatbread sandwiches made with bara (a fried, golden flatbread) topped with channa (chickpea curry), various chutneys, and sometimes meat and vegetables.

Here, they can add curried duck, goat, lamb, chicken, shrimp, and more! They have tons of delicious sauces! I wanted a bit of everything. The gravy from the duck looked so rich!

I learned that they hang the bara up for a few minutes to let it dry a bit, so it can absorb the flavors of the other dishes more readily. You tear the bara and use it to pick up the various ingredients.

I loved the bara. It had an omelet-like texture. The meat was so tender and flavorful. The duck was incredible, as were the coriander and curried spices. I loved the fat and the meat falling off the bone. The flavors were insane!

Doubles are traditionally more simple and just veg dishes. These are more gourmet doubles. Some people are doubles purists, but these gourmet ones are also pretty popular!

Next, we hopped in the car with our friend David and drove to Yousef Gyros, where they serve Syrian and Lebanese food. The place was packed as it’s super popular! I saw them cooking fries, lamb shawarma, fried chicken wings, beef, falafel, and more! We went with a lamb and beef gyro.

They built us a gyro with lamb, beef, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, barbecue sauce, garlic sauce, ketchup, cheese, and pineapple on a toasted pita. They gyros were huge and so delicious. There were so many flavors and textures.

The crumbly, caramelized beef and the thinly cut lamb were excellent. The pineapple added some sweetness and the vegetables were nice and refreshing! It was big and messy and so good!

Then, they brought us fries, fried pita chips, and some massive chicken wings with ketchup and garlic sauce. The chicken was high quality, perfectly seasoned, and crispy. The garlic sauce was good enough to drink! The garlic sauce on the pita chips was excellent. Then, they brought us a salad made up of the gyro filling!

From there, we drove three minutes to Queen’s Park Savannah, a huge, 260-acre recreational area with historical buildings and food vendors. There were so many people there!

At Jam Bites, we grabbed some chicken feet in a pickled sauce with cucumber. The cucumber had a nice flavor, and the gelatin-like skin and cartilage of the chicken feet was good, but the chicken meat and fat at the bottom had more flavor!

They added some chadon beni (culantro sauce) to the liquid in the cup for some added flavor. Then, I chugged the liquid. It was sharp and herbal!

Then, we saw vendors selling chow, which are bags of various picked fruits and vegetables with a salt, black pepper, lime, garlic marinade. They can do it to pineapple, watermelon, mango, plums, and more!

We got a pineapple, watermelon, prune, and mango chow. The pineapple was pickled, peppery, sweet, and savory. The watermelon was so unique and spiced, while the prune was meaty. The juicy fruit and savory spices were unreal!

Then, we finished with a fresh pineapple-orange-passionfruit-grapefruit juice. It was a sour, sweet, and refreshing way to end our Trini street food tour!

Eating TRINIDADIAN CHINESE FOOD for the FIRST TIME in Port of Spain, Trinidad!!

???????? QUINCY:
???????? DAVID:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

After months of planning, I’ve officially arrived in my 87th country, Trinidad and Tobago! The food and culture here are so diverse and I can’t wait to dive into it all over the next week and a half. Let’s eat some Trinidadian Chinese food in the capital, Port of Spain!

Trinidad and Tobago is a country in the Caribbean Sea, just a stone’s throw from northern Venezuela, the country my parents are from. Trinidad and Tobago cuisine is a wonderful and diverse fusion of African, South Asian, Creole, Afghan, Chinese, Amerindian, Arab, Spanish, and Portuguese cuisines, which makes it super unique unto itself!

⚽️BOL:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

My adventure began on the island of Trinidad, in the country’s capital, Port of Spain. My new friends Quincy and David and I would be starting off at Wing Hua, a Chinese restaurant and bar in the city.

The restaurant had a small dining area that was closed due to COVID, as well as a bar at the end where you order. Quincy told me the food would be spicy, so I was excited! Their menu was massive, and we ordered six items.

One of the guys there was a fan of mine and gave me some curry goat for free! Then, I headed back into the kitchen to watch them prepare some lo mein noodles with half of a chopped Chinese-style chicken on top.

Next, they prepared some pepper shrimp, beef in black bean sauce and vegetables, chunky vegetables, Hong Kong-style pork, Singapore noodles, fried chicken, Chinese-style roasted chicken, and more. I tried a carrot and some pork. It was very spicy!

At our table, we started with fried wontons, chunky vegetables, Hong Kong-style pork, and beef in black bean sauce. First, I tried the wontons with chili sauce. It was spicy but full of flavor! Everything looked so hearty, meaty, and protein-rich!

Then, I moved on to the Singapore noodles, Hong Kong-style pork, pepper shrimp, and chunky vegetables. The noodles were like thin glass noodles with a bit of spice, meat, and vegetables. I loved that the Chinese food was made using Trinidadian spices!

The tender beef was also fantastic. I loved the black bean sauce, and the Hong Kong-style pork had some nice heat to it. The pepper shrimp also had a nice amount of spice on them. I also really enjoyed the chunky vegetables.

Next were steamed shrimp wontons, which were very different from the fried ones. They were soft and doughy, and came down in a pungent sauce. The spice in the sauce had a delayed reaction!

I followed them with the ram-style chicken came with peppers and carrots. It was so tasty with an almost glazy sauce on it, and was like a lightly fried chicken. The crispy skin pork was fatty and crispy, almost like chicharron! I loved it.

Then, I went for the chicken spring roll, which was more like a large empanada or pastel. I liked houw light and crispy it was. The char sui bao, or barbecued pork bun, was like a savory and fluffy pillow. It had a sweetness to it, and the bun itself was nice and airy.

Finally, I went with the matcha boba tea. The little tapioca balls in it were fantastic. It was like a mocha frappuccino with whipped cream.

The beef in black bean sauce was my favorite, with the steamed wontons a close second. But everything was so good!

After Travis arrived, he added water to a steamer and then began shaving my head to clean me up a bit. Then, he lined up my beard, got my sideburns, and shaved my neck. There was a lot of conversation among the locals!

While he shaved me, they had Braveheart on the TV! Then, he faded my sideburns a bit and then trimmed my beard. After that, Travis applied some shaving gel to my head and beard. He put a hot towel on my face and then used a straight razor to clean me up even more!

There’s nothing like the feeling of a great shave. It was so comforting and relaxing! Then, he put the hot towel on my head and massaged my head with a machine he put on his hand. It felt so good!

Next, he put an ice-cold towel on my head and face before shaving a bit more off the back to get the cleanest shave. What a great haircut experience in Georgetown, Guyana!

Insane TRINIDADIAN STREET FOOD Tour of Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain, Trinidad!!

????????CHEF JASON PERU:

????????DAVID:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

After arriving back in Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, I went on an all-out street food tour of the city at night! Come with me and let’s eat some delicious Trini food!

My boy Chef Jason Peru, his girlfriend Candice, and our friend David and I would be going on another tour of Queen’s Park Savannah. There’s a man there who is legendary for his oysters!

⚽️BOL:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

The man was expecting me. He’s not there every day, but he has a flame going at his stand when he’s there. It’s his way of signalling to people that he’s there!

These oysters were smaller and came from a swampy mangrove area in central Trinidad. He also had several sauces and a drink made from tree bark. He added the juice, some chadon beni, some lemon juice, and more.

It was like a spicy oyster soup! I really enjoyed it. I could taste the tree bark, and I liked the small oysters. It had such a balanced flavor and a nice sweet and sour kick.

Then, I tried an oyster by itself. It was small and easy and a little sweet! I tried another with some really spicy sauce. He also had some tiny shrimp he added to the oysters. They were nice and sweet!

Everything came to 70 TTD, or about $11 USD. Then, we walked to a nearby coconut vendor, where we got some fresh coconuts. After drinking the water, they cut them open so we could eat the tender coconut inside!

You break off a piece of the coconut shell to use as a spoon. It was so cool and refreshing. We got two for 10 TTD, or about $1.50 USD.

Then, we hopped in the car and drove back to S&S Doubles on Ariapita Avenue to have two loaded doubles! The vendor added pepper to mine.

Mine was nice ans sweet from the tamarind, a bit of heat from the mild pepper, and the savoriness from the chana. I also loved the crispy bara. It was so tasty and affordable! It was so good, I had to lick the paper!

The QUEEN of PORK in Trinidad!! Trini Fried Pork + Indian Sweets in Couva, Trinidad!!

????????CHEF JASON PERU:
????????DAVID:
????????CANDICE:
????????‍???? QUAN KEP'S PORK SHED:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

My trip through the islands of Trinidad and Tobago continued in Couva, a town about one hour south of Port of Spain in the central part of Trinidad.

Joining me were my friends Chef Jason Peru, Candice Mohan, and David, who took me to Quan Kep’s Pork Shed. There are also several food trucks in the area that sell various pies!

⚽️BOL:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

I watched them fry up some pork in a wok. They also roast pork for 3 hours in Chinese barrel roasters.

Then, she cut up some blood sausage, which she would fry up with onions, culantro, pimiento, and hot peppers. I love blood sausage, and this one doesn’t contain rice, only bread!

I tried a bit of sausage. It was amazing. It was dense and tasty. I’d never had a blood sausage like this. I loved the culantro, chilies, garlic, and bread in it!

Next, she fried three huge pieces of pork in a pot, and stir-fried the blood sausage in a wok. The tradition of blood sausage in Trinidad comes from Britain, who once colonized the islands.

She added chadon beni, onion, pimientos, and hot peppers to make a stir-fry. Meanwhile, the frying pork basically looked like chicharron!

The blood sausage with peppers was exceptional. The crust on the outside was amazing, and I loved the addition of the spices. I loved how smooth it was!

Next, she fried a Venezuelan-style pork empanada. Trinidad and Tobago is a wonderful melting pot of cultures and flavors!

We followed that with Geera pork, which cubed is pork made from pork shoulder and contains salt, pepper, and cumin. It was flavorful, tender, and fatty, and wasn’t overly spicy.

Next, she fried up some pork wontons and tossed them into the wok with Grandmother sauce, sesame oil, and the stir-fried veg mix.

The flavor was fantastic. The chilies and brown bean sauce were unreal, and they were so crispy and tender. They contained lots of moist pork, too!

Next was the fried pork belly, which was so juicy and fatty. There was an amazing contrast of textures, from the crispy cracklings to the meat to the gelatinous fat.

Then, Jason got a Trini bun and added pork to it. It was so juicy, it didn’t need sauce! The pork was so good, I couldn’t stop eating it!

The fried pork leg was full of flavor. It was even better than the pork belly! This woman’s food was unreal!

Next was the pork empanada, which was lightly fried. I loved the corn flour exterior and the decent amount of minced pork inside!

Next, we drove down to a town called Debe. Along the busy food strip are shops selling Indian and Trinidadian snacks.

At the end of the strip is Sweety Shoppe Bakery, which sells Indian and Trini sweets like barfi, jalebi, toolum, coconut cake, bennie balls, sugar cake, kurma, and more!

We got a massive jalebi, kurma, bennie balls, sugar cake, and toolum for 36 TTD/$6 USD.

The jalebi was sticky, sugary, decadent, and crispy. The toolum contained molasses and coconut. The sweetness and bitterness of the molasses and the shredded coconut was excellent!

The bennie ball was dense and full of sesame seeds and nutmeg. They’re hard, though! The kurma is a fried dough made with flour, condensed milk, and spices, and coated with sugar syrup.

They reminded me of a butter cookie. I loved the cinnamon. It was a sugar rush, though! Finally, the coconut cake was dense and reminded me almost of a Rice Krispies Treat.

What an incredible morning of pork and Indian sweets!

The Ultimate Indian Haircut Compilation!!

???????? CHECK OUT MORE INDIA CONTENT:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

If you’ve followed me for a while, you probably know what one of my favorite things to do in India is to get a haircut. The haircuts in India are next-level and typically include a wash, a shave, and an upper-body massage! We’ll dive deep into it all in this Indian haircut compilation!

My first Indian haircut experience was at N.S. Barbar Shop in Kolkata back in November of 2018. Located in Territy Bazaar, this was my formal introduction to the magic of an Indian haircut! Between my barber’s excellent blending skills and the heavenly face massage he gave me, this was an Indian haircut experience for the ages!

Just a few months later, in March of 2019, I traveled to the city of Shillong in the state of Meghalaya. There, my friend Paul took me to King City Gents Saloon in Muda Shopping Complex.

Not only did my barber give me a fresh cut, but he also released all the tension in my face with an excellent facial massage and steam! The massage of my back, arms, shoulders, and hands was the cherry on top of the most relaxing haircut ever!

Less than two weeks later, I had my third Indian haircut experience in the historical town of Sivasagar in Assam. I got my usual skin fade, followed by a beard massage and a complete shave.

As always, I had to finish with an epic massage and this guy did not disappoint! From my eyebrows and temples to my shoulders and the back of my neck, all the tension in my body was gone by the end!

On my first day in Trivandrum, Kerala, India in January of 2020, my friend Vishnu and I visited Mr. Barber in the city. The guy there expertly blended my haircut with scissors, gave my facial hair a nice trim, and then gave me a full wash. He finished up with a scalp and head massage that I can only describe as orgasmic!

My final Indian haircut experience—so far—was the cut I enjoyed at Blade Barbershop near S.M. Street Bazaar in Kozhikode. My barber, Samir, had the magic touch! The skin fade was fantastic, as was the shave and the head and beard massage. It was a long, soothing massage and was easily the best head massage I’ve ever had! He even ended with a hair wash and a blow dry!

If you want to have the ultimate haircut experience, you have to go to India. Not only are the barbers artists, the experiences themselves are super thorough and relaxing. They’re also very inexpensive!

Nicaraguan LADY BARBER Gives HEAD SHAVE & MASSAGE in Granada, Nicaragua!!

????????VISIT NICARAGUA:
????????CARLOS:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

After arriving back in Granada, I headed off to get pampered with a haircut! Come with me on my luxurious Nicaraguan haircut experience!

My barber shop was right across the street from my hotel, La Merced, where I had a huge amount of space in my suite. I had a refrigerator, armoir, huge bed, and more. This hotel used to be a huge house. There are two levels, a restaurant, and a pool in the center!

???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

I walked across the street to the barber shop, and met my barber, Asiyadora. I wanted a beard trim, a head shave, and a massage. I met everyone there and even the cat! She said I was going to look elegant by the end!

She trimmed my beard, and I learned that the barber shop has been there since 1968. It’s a beautiful antique barber shop! She put a cold towel on my forehead and applied shaving cream to my neck to shave that part. The aftershave felt great!

Then, she trimmed my nose hairs and then applied shaving cream to the top of my head and began shaving my head. It felt so good and relaxing! Then, she went in a second time for a closer shave. She was doing a great job!

Then, it was time for the massage. She added an exfoliating cream to my face and rubbed it in. It was a heavenly face massage! It completely opened my pores. She was making sure she’d get rid of all the blackheads.

Then, she applied a mud mask and fanned me so it dried quickly. My face felt super tight! Then, she used a towel to wipe it off. It felt great! Then, she applied menthol, which tingled but felt good!

Then, it was time for the face massage. She used a machine on her hand and used it on my head, face, neck, arms, chest, and hands! It felt so good, I wanted to buy that machine! Then, she got my back and the top of my head, followed by the back of my neck and even my palms!

I felt like a new person by the end! It cost 500 cordobas, or about $14 USD. It was amazing. Then, we headed back to La Merced, where we got some coffee in Cafe La Merced. I went with an iced coffee with double espresso.

The hotel has 18 rooms and is in the center of the city. It’s beautiful!

My guide Carlos from Visit Nicaragua and I were at Barber Magic inside the Oriental Market, the largest market in all of Central America. My barber, Usbaldo told me that they’ve been in business for 30 years. The market is huge at 135 blocks in size!

???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

He started by applying shaving cream to my head and shaving it with a razor. Then, he went for round two to get a closer shave. He changed the blade and got a better shave. He can cut lots of styles and designs in your hair!

Then, he added aftershave and leaned me back to use clippers on my beard and mustache. I wanted a change after two weeks. I had some pimples under the beard. Then, he added shaving cream to my face and took the straight razor to get a closer shave.

Next, he went in for a second shave of my face. It felt really good and relaxing. Then, he got my chin and neck. This is the way to get a real clean shave! He followed that with some cologne. He rubbed it all over my face and head. It burned a bit!

Then, he went in for the head and back massage. He also got my chest, hands, and arms! Then it was Carlos’ turn to get a shave and haircut. He looked much cleaner by the end! The two haircuts cost me 300 Cordobas, total. I gave him an extra 100!

The Ultimate Pakistan HAIRCUT EXPERIENCE!! Full Head Shave + Massage in Karachi, Pakistan

???????? MANAKY:
???? MANAKY:

One of my favorite things to do when I travel to South Asia is to get a haircut. Getting a haircut in this part of the world is a true experience that everyone should have. Come with me as I have the ultimate Pakistan haircut experience, including a full shave and head massage, in Karachi, Pakistan!

This would be my first ever Pakistani haircut! For the experience, I headed to King’s Hair Dresser in the center of town, near Empress Market, with my guide Furqan from Manaky. After two days of non-stop exploring and eating, my back was killing me, so I was excited to get started.

???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

Haircut experiences in this part of the world are legendary. They’re not just a simple, standard haircut. Instead, the barbers truly pamper you. They cut your hair, shave your beard, and give you a wash. But then, they take it to the next level by giving you a head, neck, and shoulder massage for the ages! It’s the best way to relax.

Even though I’m balding, I could still enjoy the experience! The barber started off with a head massage and then sprayed my head with water, before applying some shaving cream. Then, he proceeded to shave my head. With the fans going in the shop, my head felt amazing! It only took about 3 minutes!

Then, my barber added oil to my head and started on the massage. He used his fingertips to get deep into my skull and the back of my neck. Then, he moved on to my shoulders and my back.

I was in heaven! It felt so good! Then, he even massaged my arms and my hands! After that, he got my eyebrows as well! It was unbelievably relaxing and the whole thing only cost me 300 rupees, or roughly $1.94 USD. It’s an unreal bargain!

Then, outside, my guide Furqan and I found a vendor selling strawberries. They were super fresh and sweet! There were also vendors selling other vegetables

Authentic TRINIDADIAN FOOD with the QUEEN of CHULHA!! 20+ Trini Dishes in Siparia, Trinidad!!

????????CHEF JASON PERU:
????????CANDICE:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

After exploring the northern and central parts of Trinidad for the past few days, my friend and I headed to the southern part of the island to meet a woman known as the queen of chulha on Trinidad!

My afternoon with Jason and Candice began in Siparia at Aunty Doll Chulha ke Ranni. Chulha is an earthen clay stove that’s fueled by wood, which flavors the food you cook over it—bread, curries, and more!

⚽️BOL:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

The house was surrounded by bush. The woman here, Aunty Doll, cooks using a chulha, and she sells them. Because the chulha is made of mud, it conducts heat very well.

They also put a tawa atop the clulha. I met Aunty Doll and watched her and the other women make a coconut bake, green mango curry, dal roti hops bread, baked chicken, curry duck, baigan choka, chulha curry chicken, pholourie, and more.

Doll served me some pholourie with pommecythere. They were amazing together. I loved the soft texture.

Next was the saheena, or spinach fritter, which she split and added pommecythere on top. The pommecythere is a fruit chutney with garlic added. It’s so good!

They even make a pholourie curry called kurhi, which is super dense! The pholourie is made with split peas and absorbs the liquid. Her homemade hops bread looked like fluffy little pillows!

Then, she mixed up some dough and water to make dal puri. I learned that Doll has seven children!

The mango curry looked amazing. Then, I tried her fresh hops bread with cheese inside. Next, I got to see all of the chulhas she’s made, and one of the girls there ground up some chilies, coconut, and salt into a paste.

Then, I tried the sada roti with the roasted coconut chutney, which was nearly black. It was smoky and had a tiny kick. It was really nice!

Next, she took the ham out of the oven. It smelled amazing! Then, Doll patted and rolled out some dal puri and cooked them on the tawa. Then, she put it underneath so it puffs up and gets even crispier!

Next, she pulled out a baked chicken pie with macaroni and melted cheese on top. Then, they gave me some pepper roti. It reminded me of some Greek breads I’d had.

It contains pepper, garlic, onion, carrots, and cheese, and wasn’t too spicy. I loved the layers on it!

Then, it was time to finally eat! We had curried chataigne (jackfruit), chana and aloo, kurhi (pholourie curry), murtani (eggplant, onion & tomato curry), chalta anchar (a spicy, condiment made from elephant apple), pommecythere chutney, curried saheena, bhaji (spinach with coconut cream), roasted coconut chutney, mother-in-law (a spicy pepper chutney), pepper roti, dal puri, curried mango, and Trinidad sweet rice (rice pudding).

We ate it all on a banana leaf like a sadhya in Kerala! We had 13 different items! The dal puri was flaky, and I loved it with the kurkhi. The curried multani was smoky and peppery, as was the curried mango.

I adored the curried saheena, which was like a thick, dense bread. The curried chataigne was my favorite so far. The pumpkin chouka was like pumpkin pudding, and the bhaji was like a creamy, smoky spinach dip.

The mother in law wasn’t too hot, and the pommecythere was great. I also loved the cardamom and cinnamon in the sweet rice!

Round 2 consisted of a juicy honey smoked pork, the fluffy coconut bake, spicy roasted curry duck, meaty common foul, curried stewed chicken (which almost reminded me of jerk chicken), juicy and smoky chulha baked chicken, pungent and fatty jeera pork, and crispy baked macaroni pie with chicken.

What an incredible meal and experience!

The ULTIMATE PAKISTANI HAIRCUT in OMAN - Full Shave, Waxing & Massage in Muscat, Oman!!

???????? OMAN TRAVEL:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

At the end of a long trip, I always like to kick back and get pampered a bit, and when you’re in the Middle East or South Asia, that means getting a haircut and massage! Come with me as I get a Pakistani haircut in Muscat, Oman!

I love getting Pakistani- and Indian-style haircuts when I travel. They’re so relaxing and the perfect way to unwind. My barber Fahim was going to give me a haircut, a shave, a massage, and a facial. I was joined by my friends and guided Ahmed and Ahmed from Oman Travel.

???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

Fahim is from Pakistan and has been a barber for 20 years. I wanted to look younger for my shawarma tour later. Fahim added some gel to my beard and then torched a razor, which he used to line me up.

While he cleaned me up, we chatted about our favorite Pakistani dishes. He loves lassi, and I’m a huge fan of nihari, chapli kebabs, and haleem. We also talked about how amazing the Omani people are. I loved his shaving skills.

Then, he took electric clippers to shave a bit more off and to fade my sideburns. It was really unique and different.

Then, he sprayed my head with water and added some gel before using the razor to shave off the hair that had grown in the past four days. It felt so good and relaxing.

Next, we did something I’d never done before. He added some wax to my ears and som e more to my nose to take off the blackheads. Then, he took them off after one minute. My skin felt as soft and smooth as a baby’s.

Then, Fahim added some face wash to my head, face, and neck. Him rubbing it in on my forehead felt amazing. Then, hw cleaned it off with a towel and applied a mud mask. While it sent, he started on the head massage. It felt so good on the top of my head and back of my neck.

He even massaged inside my ears and got my back. Then, we went over to a sink to rinse off the mask and washed off my face with soap and water. Finally, he dried me off and massaged my eyebrows, ears, and temples. He did such an incredible job with everything!

The ULTIMATE IRAQI HAIRCUT Experience in IRAQ! Master Barber & Massage in Baghdad!

???????? BIL WEEKEND: |
???? TASOS:
???? VISIT MY TRAVEL BLOG:

Getting haircuts in other countries is something that’s become a tradition of mine over the past few years. I knew I wanted to experience a true Iraqi barber experience in Baghdad, so I headed out to an unnamed barber shop that only locals know about!

I wanted to get my facial hair trimmed the way the locals in Iraq get theirs. I was hoping for a nice fade. It was really late, though, and I was exhausted! I almost started falling asleep as he trimmed my beard with the clippers!

I try to get a haircut in every country I go to now just to compare and contrast them. Each one is different! Also, they’re extremely relaxing. It’s like you’re getting pampered, and a lot of times, they also give you a head, neck, or back massage!

I liked the way the barber faded my sideburns and into my beard. It felt so good. I loved being able to just sit back and relax. Then, he used the clippers on my head and then applied aftershave. My beard looked like those of the locals!

Then, he cleaned me up a bit with the straight razor and trimmed more off of the top of my head. After that, he trimmed my eyebrows with scissors.

Next, a new guy came in to give me the facial and massage. He put a creamy mask all over my face and massaged the top of my head, my face and the back of neck. It felt downright orgasmic!

Then, the barber shaved a bit more using the straight razor and then it was time to wash my head and face! I felt so refreshed!

Finally, he sprayed some liquid on my face and head. Altogether, it cost me $15 USD, as opposed to the $100 the same experience would cost me in Miami! What a deal and what an incredible haircut and massage in Iraq!

Nighttime TOBAGO STREET FOOD Tour! Pizza, Sharwarma & Chicken Wings in Crown Point, Tobago!!

????????CHEF JASON PERU:
????????CANDICE:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

There was no way I could end my first full day in Tobago with anything other than street food at night! Come with me as I go on a nighttime street food tour of Crown Point, Tobago!

My good friend Chef Jason Peru would be joining me on this tour of the Crown Point Food Strip! The shops and vendors here sell everything from pizza to Middle Eastern to burgers.

⚽️BOL:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

We started at Pepe’s Pizza, which is a popular pizza spot here. There, we got a small pizza with pepperoni, bacon, sausage, and pineapple. It was like half Hawaiian and half meat-lovers!

After 5 minutes, our pizza was ready! It looked so crispy and tropical and had a nice, thin crust. I had to add some red pepper flakes to add some heat. I loved the crust and the mozzarella cheese, and the tropical element from the pineapple. The meat was amazing, too!

The dough was fantastic! I also liked that the pizza cooled off fast and didn’t scorch my mouth! Then, we watched the cooks there build another pizza.

Next door was a place called Skewers, which sells gyros. They used a mix of lamb and beef and also add lettuce, tomato, garlic sauce, cheese, pineapple, and mushroom to the pita.

I ordered a mixed lamb and beef. I love shawarma, so this is my jam! This is such a common street food in places like Lebanon and Oman, which I had just visited earlier in the year.

It was like a tropical, spicy, and exotic shawarma. I’d never had one like it! It was affordable at 40 TTD and used fresh meats and vegetables. The caramelized mushrooms were nice, as was the garlic sauce.

Next, we hopped back in the car and drove past some bars and found Wings Bar, which sells chicken wings! They have 17 varieties, including the Local/Tropical with tamarind, pineapple, and sorrel, and Tipsy Wings (Evan williams hiney BBQ, Jack Daniels BBQ).

We went with the Local/Tropical. The sorrel almost looked like tamarind or pomegranate. They cooked the wings in the purple sauce. These would be sweet and tart!

We let them sit for five minutes to cool off. The sauce was so sweet and flavorful! There were cloves, cinammon, nutmeg, and vinegar in it. The breading was also really nice. They were also super fresh and tender, and some of the best chicken wings I’ve ever eaten!

What an awesome way to end our night in Crown Point!

My adventures in Barbados continued the next morning with an unforgettable Bajan haircut experience right on someone’s front porch!

This was my first time having a front yard haircut. I wanted him to give me a full shave on my head and trim my beard. I’d been letting my hair grow for a few days. I’ve been balding for a few years now, so I love a clean shave.

Haircuts are always relaxing for me. I can practically fall asleep during them! After Corey finished my head, he got to work on trimming and lining up my beard. I loved how the clippers vibrated my head!

Next, Corey got my neck. I was considering getting my neck and cheeks lasered so I never have to shave them again.

Then, he started massaging my shoulders and the back of my neck. I immediately felt my stress levels drop. It was so relaxing!

Then, I got down on the floor so he could crack my back. It felt so good! If you’re ever in Barbados and need a haircut or a massage, give Corey a call (288-0962) or hit him up on his Instagram!

Luxurious LEBANESE HAIRCUT EXPERIENCE!! Haircut, Shave & Massage in Beirut | Lebanon

????NICO:
???????? PHIL & JOE BARBERS:
???? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

On my final day in Lebanon, I ended my trip with a super luxurious haircut experience in Beirut! Come with me on my first Lebanese haircut experience!

We went to Phil & Joe Barbers in the middle of a local mall. I was going to have them shave my head and beard, and get a facial and a massage.

???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

Inside, I met Maggie, who told me that they offer haircuts, shaves, facials, and massages.

They also sell barber products like beard oil, brushes, and shaving cream, as well as accessories, shawls, glasses, and even coffee! The even have leather sunglasses that cost $680 USD!

I hadn’t had a shave in 3 days, so I was ready! There are TVs at each station, so you can watch cartoons during your haircut. They had on Tom & Jerry!

My barber Omar started by applying a warm, Italian shaving cream to my head. The blade felt so good. Omar has been shaving for 17 years, so he’s an experienced pro. There’s no better feeling than having a nice, clean shaved head!

While I was getting my shave, Nico was getting a haircut next to me.

Then, Omar applied shaving cream to my beard and gave me a clean shave. It was so relaxing, I could have fallen asleep. I looked like a different person!

Then, it was time for the facial and head massage. He put hot towels on my face, which felt really good. Luckily, I didn’t have many pimples under my beard, so I didn’t have many cuts.

Then, he added wax to my nostrils to get my nose hair! Then, he added more aftershave. Next to me, Nico was super relaxed! He massaged my head, forehead, and temples. And then I was finished!

I watched Nico’s barber get the facial and have aftershave put on. We both looked good! I paid both barbers and that was it for Lebanon!
