Coral Reef Revival in Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary

Colton and Jack are revitalizing coral reefs in the Florida Keys and learn how to replace reefs that have been decimated by climate change and diseases. In this episode, the guys team up with eco-defender Sarah Hamlyn - a Coral Reef Restoration Technician - who is helping scientist come up with ways to grow coral in warm and acidic waters. The coral reef Colton and Jack are attempting to revitalize was once thriving. However, in today's climate, only about 10% of the reef is active and living. This is alarming because 1/4 of all marine life lives on or near reef schools.

The Living Islands, Marine Species, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Part VII #NatureattheBest

Nature at the Best is the envelope of Nature. Here you get exclusive access to the endemic species of various regions of India, never filmed before in such detail, as well as informative films and documentaries of various other species. Our viewers don't see Nature but live it! Subscribe to our channel and join us on the journey to sustainably explore the natural world.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands is home to some of the most spectacular species of marine life in the world. With over 560 different species of corals recorded until date, the sheer colour and diversity of the sights underwater can leave you spellbound. The Andaman Islands pose snorkeling and scuba diving as one of their key attractions. One of the few tourist attractions in India for underwater activities, the corals in Andaman Islands makes it a must visit for everyone.
1. Acropora is a genus of small polyp stony coral in the phylum Cnidaria. Some of its species are known as table coral, elkhorn coral, and staghorn coral. Over 149 species are described. Acropora species are some of the major reef corals responsible for building the immense calcium carbonate substructure that supports the thin living skin of a reef. Depending on the species and location, Acropora species may grow as plates or slender or broad branches.

2. Schooling Fish
Andaman Sea is a place of natural beauty with a plethora of fish species which is very less explored. About one quarter of fish species shoal all their lives, and about one half shoal for part of their lives. Fish derive many benefits from shoaling behaviour including defence against predators enhanced foraging success, and higher success in finding a mate. It is also likely that fish benefit from shoal membership through increased hydrodynamic efficiency.

3. Moray EEL,
Moray eels occur in all tropical and subtropical seas, where they live in shallow water among reefs and rocks and hide in crevices. They differ from other eels in having small rounded gill openings and in generally lacking pectoral fins. Their skin is thick, smooth, and scaleless, while the mouth is wide and the jaws are equipped with strong, sharp teeth, which enable them to seize and hold their prey (chiefly other fishes) but also to inflict serious wounds on their enemies, including humans.

4. Ghost Pipefish
Ghost pipefish is a genus of fishes in the order Syngnathiformes. Ghost pipefishes are related to pipefishes and seahorses. They are found in tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific. The animals, none of which are longer than 15 centimetres (5.9 in), float near motionlessly, with the mouth facing downwards, around a background that makes them nearly impossible to see.

5. Manta Rays
Manta rays are one of the highly intelligent and highly threatened species on earth. These are the largest rays in the world. The sea creatures live in tropical, subtropical, and temperate ocean waters across the globe. Both species of manta ray are filter feeders: they swim with their mouths wide open, drawing in zooplankton and krill, which they sift through rows of tiny rakes that line their mouths called gill plates.

6. Sea Turtles also sometimes called marine turtles, are reptiles of the order Testudines and of the suborder Cryptodira. There are seven existing species of Sea turtles in the world. Among which The leatherback sea turtle, sometimes called the lute turtle or leathery turtle or simply the luth, is the largest of all living turtles. These sea turtles spend the bulk of their lives in the ocean.

7. Octopus
Octopuses are sea animals famous for their rounded bodies, bulging eyes, and eight long arms. They live in all the world’s oceans but are especially abundant in warm, tropical waters. Octopuses, like their cousin, the squid, are often considered “monsters of the deep,” though some species, or types, occupy relatively shallow waters. Most octopuses stay along the ocean’s floor, although some species are pelagic, which means they live near the water’s surface.

8. Yellow Snappers
The yellowl snapper is an abundant species of snapper native to the western Atlantic Ocean including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Although they have been found as far north as Massachusetts, This species is mostly found around coral reefs, but may be found in other habitats. They occur at depths of from near the surface to 180 meters.

9. Stingray
Stingrays are common in coastal tropical and subtropical marine waters throughout the world. Some species, such as Dasyatis thetidis, are found in warmer temperate oceans and others, such as Plesiobatis daviesi, are found in the deep ocean. Stingrays use a wide range of feeding strategies.

10. Corals
Corals are marine invertebrates within the class Anthozoa of the phylum Cnidaria. They typically form compact colonies of many identical individual polyps. Coral species include the important reef builders that inhabit tropical oceans and secrete calcium carbonate to form a hard skeleton.

500 + Fish Identification Documentary by Pano4life

A few years ago I was stung by the Diving virus. I quickly became an instructor and over time I was able to accumulate more than 6000 dives mainly in Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia. During these dives, I noticed how fragile the ecosystems are. I came up with the idea of filming everything I could for fear of not seeing it again one day. Of course I could not take my camera for each of these dives but I do it whenever I have the opportunity.

Today we were able to identify and filmed in full HD 500 different underwater species. This documentary of 60 minutes retraces these different species with the scientific description and the Latin name of each species.

Our goal is to show the world how precious the oceans are and full of life that unfortunately the humanity is likely to endanger ...

We sometimes forget that the oceans provide us with more than 60% of the oxygen we we need to live. Half of the photosynthesis and removal of carbon dioxide takes place in the oceans. Marine species play a key role in this regulation. It is therefore important to identify and protect them. Unfortunately for humans, this protection is not a priority. On the contrary, the human pressures on the oceans are increasing every day, the impact is irreversible!

Through this documentary, we hope to be able to arouse interest on the various underwater species and their protection. We also say to ourself that if our future generations also want to be able to contemplate the beauty of our planet, we have to act quickly! If we continue like this, our grandchildren will not even see a quarter of what you see in this documentary.

I would especially like to thank my partner and dive Buddy Lily Romero who filmed and helped me editing this amazing video. As well as laurent Minsart for some macro shots in Lembeh, Indonesia. Special Big Up to all those who participated by loan or by far at this documentary, Dive Guide Local Boat Captain.

Diving in Bali (720p)

Scuba diving in Bali. This DVD is available at

Diving in Bali is a document of an extraordinary expedition I made to Indonesia's magical island of Bali in 2006 with Aquamarine Diving,

From Tulamben's awesome USAT Liberty wreck, to the reef manta rays of Nusa Penida, via the fascinating macro marine life of Tulamben and Seraya Secrets, the footage covers the breadth of Bali's fascinating underwater world.

The video features 158 species of marine life, and their common and scientific names are available by turning on the captions with the CC button under the video. Viewers can now contribute subtitles for the marine life names in this video in many languages. Find out more at

From Tulamben there is footage of the wreck of the USAT Liberty in both day time and night time, including the humphead parrotfish that spend the night there. Also from Tulamben are numerous marine live encounters from dives at the Drop-Off and the Coral Garden.

Just around the corner we make a dive at Seraya Secrets, a macro hotspot where I encountered seahorses and nudibranchs.

From Padangbai on the east coast of Bali we have footage from The Blue Lagoon and Pura Jepun.

From the island of Nusa Penida we have the manta ray cleaning station, Manta Point, and Ped.

Full list of dive sites featured in this video:

1. USAT Liberty Shipwreck, Tulamben

The USAT Liberty was torpedoed by the Japanese off Lombok and beached at Tulamben in Bali. In 1963 the last eruption of Mount Agung caused the wreck to slide deeper into the sea where she lies today. The USAT Liberty shipwreck makes an excellent dive site. This video features the towering stern, the coral-encrusted gun on the bow, green humphead parrotfish (Bolbometopon muricatum), a Pacific hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata bissa), garden eels, sweetlips and lots of other interesting marine life from the wreck and its surroundings.

The USAT Liberty also makes a fantastic night dive. Green humphead parrotfish sleep in the protection of the wreck. Other highlights include a Spanish dancer and a bluespotted ribbontail ray.

2. Coral Garden, Tulamben

The Coral Garden at Tulamben lies conveniently right off the middle of the beach. Skunk cleaner shrimps tend to moray eels and groupers at a cleaning station based around a barrel sponge. Also featuring a ribbon eel, ghost pipefish, leaf scorpionfish and trevallies schooling in the shallows.

3. Tulamben Drop-Off

Video from the Drop-Off at Tulamben, Bali, featuring a spectacular giant purple knotted sea fan, nudibranchs, a ghost pipefish and a seahorse. Before and after exploring the Drop-Off we spend time in the shallows where we meet Tulamben's famous schools of trevallies.

By night the drop-off at Tulamben provides plenty of treats for the visiting diver. This video includes a squat lobster, a cone shell, a dwarf cuttlefish, a hermit crab and various pretty reef fish.

4. Seraya Secrets

Seraya Secrets, nearby to Tulamben, is an exellent muck dive known for weird and wonderful critters. Here we encounter some batfish around the artificial reef project in the shallows. A little deeper we find 2 thorny seahorses, catfish, an anemone crab and nudibranchs.

5. Blue Lagoon, Padangbai

The Padangbai area on the east coast of Bali provides some fantastic diving. Just north of Padangbai lies the Blue Lagoon. This footage comes from my first ever dive in Indonesia with a video camera and features leaf scorpionfish, cuttelfish, anemonefish, lionfish, shrimps, catfish, nudibranchs, moorish idols and a goby.

6. Pura Jepun, Padangbai

Pura Jepun also lies just north of Padangbai and is home to some fantastic marine life. This video features clownish, sweetlips, angelfish, a peacock mantis shrimp, a stingray, a panther grouper, a wart slug, ribbon eels, a scorpionfish and a flying gurnard.

7. Manta Point, Nusa Penida

On the north-east side of Nusa Penida lies a cleaning station for reef manta rays (Manta alfredi) known as Manta Point. On 23rd May 2006 we had the pleasure of diving with these graceful giants.

8. PED, Nusa Penida

Ped is sloping reef on the north coast of Nusa Penida. Here we encounter a variety of tropical reef fishes including angelfish, triggerfish, anemonefish and scorpionfish, as well as a rhizostome jellyfish.

Thanks to Toao ( for the music tracks, Deep Blue, Starbeam, Afterglow, Time & Space and Woodsman, and to Erik Verkoyen for Prickly Shark.

Diving ANDAMAN SEA - Thailand - Underwater Video 4K - BLUE PARADISES (S02)

You can purchase our footage on:

The Thai coast of the Andaman Sea is certainly one of the most beautiful blue paradises for diving. The waters are full of fish, the extraordinary diversity of corals and the underwater scenery are breathtaking.

We started our journey in the south of Thailand : starting point the legendary island of Koh Lanta.

We no longer present the island of Koh Lanta, its beaches are clearly among the most beautiful in Thailand, a paradise on earth.
It is therefore from Koh Lanta that we leave with the BLUE PLANET DIVERS team to do our first dives on the small archipelago of Koh Haa which consists of 5 micro islands.
Fishy waters, magnificent coral landscapes (both hard and soft corals are well preserved there) and the visibility of 25m make us very happy. We loved the atmosphere, the light and the very exclusive side (few boats, few divers in March 2022).

Then we went a little further north to explore the islands south of Phuket whose dives are very famous. Racha Noi, Racha Yai, King Cruiser and Shark Point are well-known places for scuba divers and have well deserved their reputation. We dived with the super team of SEAFUN DIVERS. In this part of Thailand, the current can be strong but these sites are teeming with underwater species: clownfish, trevallies, fusiliers, groupers, trumpetfish, nudibranchs, triggerfish, parrots... And for the lucky ones, a leopard shark. A very colorful reef setting, huge pinnacles, sometimes random visibility as on the wreck of King Cruiser but these diving spots remain unavoidable.

After a few days in Phuket, we took a taxi to Thap Lamu pier near Khao Lak to embark for a liveaboard that NO TROUBLES JUST BUBBLES had concocted for us. From there, we touch the must of the must of diving in Thailand: The Similan and Surin Islands. The Similans are made up of 9 islands, numbered from 1 to 9. Visibility is around 30 meters, the underwater landscapes are stunning: canyons, huge granite blocks...
The underwater fauna is abundant and very varied, the hunting scenes are incredible, the trevallies and the longface emperors are the most formidable: a real show!
Then our boat takes us to the islands of Koh Bon and Koh Tachai, again there is so much to see in the blue, even doing 4 dives a day... It's a wonder without end. We are now sailing to Koh Bon, certainly the best site to observe the Mantas, they are not there all the time but there are so many other encounters to do that you will not be disappointed: eagle rays, turtles, blacktip sharks, schools of fish... Once again, the currents are strong, remember to stay close to the drop-off. If you love muck dive, there are many nudibranchs, shrimps,...
The final bouquet of this liveaboard is of course the long-awaited dive site of Richelieu Rock. The show can start, we don't know where to watch anymore, there are far too many...Everywhere! Normally, if the weather is good, we stay there the day for 4 dream dives. But I would dream to spend several days there, life is so rich: expect to be amazed!

Where is the best scuba diving in the world ? We still don't know,...so let's keep diving and filming. New adventures are coming very soon.

Coral reefs in India | Andaman sea

Coral reefs in India are one of the most ancient and dynamic ecosystems of India. The coral reefs not only provide a sanctuary to a myriad of marine life but also play a key role in protecting the coastline from erosion. India has about 7517 km of coastline including islands but mainland coast is 6100 km.

Scuba Diving in Andamans - Facts About Cuttlefish, Andaman Islands, Dived with #GypsyDivers

Cuttlefish or cuttles are marine molluscs of the order Sepiida. They belong to the class Cephalopoda, which also includes squid, octopuses, and nautiluses. Cuttlefish have a unique internal shell, the cuttlebone, which is used for control of buoyancy.

Cuttlefish have large, W-shaped pupils, eight arms, and two tentacles furnished with denticulated suckers, with which they secure their prey.

Cuttlefish eat small molluscs, crabs, shrimp, fish, octopus, worms, and other cuttlefish. Their predators include dolphins, sharks, fish, seals, seabirds, and other cuttlefish. The average life expectancy of a cuttlefish is about 1–2 years. Studies are said to indicate cuttlefish to be among the most intelligent invertebrates. Cuttlefish also have one of the largest brain-to-body size ratios of all invertebrates.

The cuttlefish is listed under the Red List category of least concern by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This means that while some over-exploitation of the marine animal has occurred in some regions due to large-scale commercial fishing, their wide geographic range prevents them from being too threatened.

Ocean acidification, however, caused largely by higher levels of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere, is cited as a potential threat.

Underwater VLOG Episode 2 - Scuba Diving India's Andaman Islands | GoPro HERO Underwater HD

When was the last time you dived somewhere most others will never get to experience for a first time?? Andaman Islands should be on your MUST DIVE bucket list

Episode #2 of our Underwater Video Blog Series: Highlights from our inaugural trip to the India's Andaman & Nicobar Islands really was a once in a lifetime experience for both ourselves and the clients. It took us a few dives to really learn the (underwater) layout of the land (reefs), which were extremely diverse, ranging from plateaus, pinnacles, ledges on the precipice of an 800m drop-off, an Active Volcano, and even a critter site!

There was definitely a recurring theme of Big Fish encounters & huge schools, which included a Whale Shark, a Pod of Dolphins, Manta Rays, a Tornado of Big Eye Jacks and Chevron Barracudas, as well as huge schools of Humpback Snapper & Sombre Sweetlips,Humphead Parrotfish, a Swimming Elephant (really!!), and a surprise encounter with a very rare Dugong during our final week.

There was of course the Andaman Sea's signature fantastic Macro ever present on the dives: Comet Longfin, Pipefish, a plethora of Nudi Branchs, Pygmy Pipehorse, an Electric File Clam, stunning Basslets, notably Candy Basslets & Mirror Basslets (normally only found deeper than +60 meters, but here in less than 20 meters!?!), and a SUPER FIND of a Halimeda Ghost Pipefish.

As we said, it's a Must Dive, not forgetting in all of this that (for now at least), you are virtually guaranteed to be THE ONLY DIVE GROUP ON THE REEF!!!
What are you waiting for, right? Get in touch with us and plan your next destination to be the Andaman Islands! Details as always on

Annual Coral Spawning on Great Barrier Reef

Sunday, November 24, 2013: The final leg of a massive marathon sex session ended tonight as millions of boulders of egg and sperm exploded on Queensland's Great Barrier Reef for the annual coral spawning season.

For a few days each year, a vast area off the Queensland coast becomes an underwater city of sex witnessed by a growing number of divers and scientists eager to tick this bizarre spectacle off the nature lover's ultimate bucket list.

Marine scientists believe this year's November 21 to 24 event was one of the best in years thanks to near perfect sea temperatures of 26 degrees Celsius and a late November full moon, which reduced tidal flow and allowed the eggs to float away in calmer waters.
